The Official Zack Snyder Thread - Part 3

When Snyder has some good source material to work from, he's great. WatchMen!... His own movie, SuckerPunch, was unbelievably bad though... But I think he's gonna bring it full throttle with MOS!

Weirdly, a lot of people I know have been raving about Sucker Punch... which I found weird because i'm so used to talking about it as a second rate film...

But when I hear people praising it, saying the graphics were amazing and it's a really cool film, I think 'You know what, it really isn't as bad as people on this board make out'.

Snyder has a weird history of having movies that look, sound, and move great. But when you watch them, they just don't stand up.

300 was over the top, though fun. But it wasn't very special.
Watchmen was 95% faithful to the comic...but boring.
SuckerPunch was ****...and boring.

Meh, to each his own.

I love all three. Alot. :D

^same here i feel watchmen is brilliant and still in my top 5 of super hero movies to date i like a hell of alot more than TDK

and i love 300 such a great fun movie

You know, the first time I saw 300, I would have sworn it was by a female director, from the obvious objectification of the male body, and even the way he handles sex.

But I think he just has a really interesting take on sexuality in films I think. He's not afraid of it, he doesn't ***** foot around it. There is something very raw and exposed about sexual scenes in his films. Feel the same way about the almost rape in Watchmen, the Night Owl/Silk Spectre sex scene.

And obviously Sucker Punch is partly about female objectification, but has this context of a woman's sexuality being a force, a weapon. Something powerful.

So we can cross our fingers for a scene where Amy Adams decides to have her way with Cavill, faster than a speeding bullet be damned.

In my opinion, Watchmen was one of the best superhero films ever made. I loved it.
I liked 300 as well, but not nearly as much as Watchmen.
Suckerpunch, to me, was pretty dreadful. I just didn't like the concept at all.

As a hot bloodied male emily browning raised... A smile in suckerpunch.

:p

Even as a female, I found her mesmerizing. :D

I doubt that Snyder is going to be exploring themes of sexuality in MOS :p

Clearly you haven't seen a Michael Mann, Spielberg, or a Terrence Malick film if you think he is the best visual artist working today. And that is just Hollywood.

I have seen a lot from all three, but Malick for example, "Tree of Life" was great, and has great visuals, so do all of Spielberg's movies, even "Duel" and Michael Mann his share of great shots, but the slow motion shots, the colors of Zack Snyder. Everything in a Snyder movie looks so unreal and he uses that slow motion so well. Mann's shots seem more realistic. Malick also uses shots that are great, the great zooms, and some of the sets are great, "Thin Red Line" has great action scenes but again, more realistic. Spielberg has the best imagery of the 4 guys, but Snyder is still up there with them. Take "War of the Worlds" or "Minority Report", the visuals as usual are amazing, but in terms of visuals, those movies, other than that the sets are beautiful, don't much on the imagery of "Watchmen" for example.

I agree 100%! I actually read in some article that, with SuckerPunch, he was trying to pay homage to the animated 80s classic Heavy Metal, which was even more surprising.

Watchmen was fantastic though. It's definitely one of my top 3 comic-to-film adaptations of all time.

That's the thing with Snyder. His movies will be only as good as the material is (in fact a little bit less good, but still). And the acting will be as good as the actors are.

Snyder is the first guy who makes me laugh with his sex scenes. To make that techno sex scene in 300 was hilkarious. It stripped the story of its whole seriousness at once. But the movie recovered afterwards. Same with Watchmen's sex scenes between Owl and Silk. Never saw comedy and porn mixed like that. Never saw comedy and porn mixed, to start with.

Techno sex scene? I'm sorry but I have no idea what that even means.

All I saw was an incredible emotional scene from beginning to end. The King naked and exposed (though not too literally :p), baring his worries to his wife, followed by a montage of sensual scenes of intimacy. Not too 'tame' but not too vulgar either. Thought it was handled very delicately (and as I said, would have guessed it was by a female director).

But I agree with you bout the Watchmen sex scene.

It manages to be completely in your face, and then just when it's starting to make you feel uncomfortable, or grateful your not watching it with your mum, he adds that little tongue in cheek flame burst to break the awkwardness of it. The whole thing is designed to entertain, the music, the setting. And yet it is HOT too!

I think it's great :D

it's true.....lol

I didn't see 300, Watchmen, or Sucker Punch in the theaters.......

I've caught 300 and Watchmen on tv, but I've never watched them from beginning to end.........

looks like MOS will be the 1st Snyder film I watch in the theater AND watch from beginning to end.......:woot:

don't be so sure.

Hopefully the teaser trailer will convey what he is trying to do with this version of superman. I have a firm feeling its going to be action packed I just hope he uses wirework flying effects its my main hope.

Or you could just away and watch one of them... Now!

:p

NEVER!!! You can't make me!!

:oldrazz:

if there are some good DVD sales this holiday season, I might pick up 300, Watchmen, and Sucker Punch.

out of those, I'd say I'd prob be more inclined to watch Sucker Punch first, cuz it's got hot chicks and samurai swords........:awesome:
