I think that a great opening movie would be having Lex Luthor create / hire Metallo to capture Superman. Luthor is the type of villain who doesn't like to get his hands dirty, so you could have him be the one pulling the strings while Metallo handles the fisticuffs part of the equation.

Here's a suggestion.

Jared Padalecki
Definitely has the physical stature and he is a lot better actor than Welling. Only 26 so that maybe too young, but he would 28 around shooting time. Not sure how much older he could look without a teenie-bobber haircut.

Not sure if you have seen Supernatural on CW, but he does a pretty good job. Started to take acting lessons when he was 12. He will be in the new Friday the 13th. Will have to see then as well.
 
I'm kinda torn between going with an unknown Vs. known. We've had the unknown twice now. Maybe it's time to go with a known actor in the role.
 
Wow...its been a while since I voiced an opinion on who should play Superman. I have to agree that Henry Cavill has height and the look... but the nose bothers me a bit.

I like matthew Bomer's face...but he's only 5'11 which is way to short for Superman.

I really like Routh (although he needed a better costume BLACK hair and the spit curl to go the right direction) but sadlly he just won't be back. WB can't afford for people to see him as Superman again and associate this movie with SR

Welling looks good...but again WAAAAAYYYY too much baggage.

Jared Padalecki is an interesting choice. I see him more as Captain America than Superman...but the height and physique are good and the facial structure is decent... a good choice :D

I am leaning toward Cavill (who years ago, I thought was way too young)

I hope not only b/c he was confirmed by Martin Campbell as being in the running for Bond but was deemed too young. I'm hoping they will go with Cavill once Craig decides to retire from the Bond franchise.

I'm pretty sure Jared Padilicki was in the running when McG/Ratner was still on Superman.
 
I don't care if Bomer is 5'11" I'd liked to see him in the role. It's not like he's 5'8."

I was not saying not to move forward, I was making a point. None of the actors mentioned in this thread says Superman. When you saw Reeve you automatically said Superman because he looked like he steped off the pages. To me Superman is one of those characters that has to fit the mold. Extensive casting will have to be done...again, and hopefully someone will be found that can act and has the look, like Reeve.
 
I just read this at the movie site and I am just blown away. Either this guy or the rights to this guy is in a tug of war between DC and Marvel.
I'm torn because I like Superman and Captain America. But I could see him as Superman.



People are pointing at his hair as the only thing needed to be changed for Superman since he's blond but he naturally has the Reeves superman bangs.
I'm completely torn here.

Matthew Bomer has a really young face, too Superboyish for me. Henry has a very strong masculine look while being extremely attractive at the same time.

I know he is older, but like Jared Padalecki he looks younger IMO. I think Matthew would be a great choice as long as they can make him look older.

I get what you are saying spark. To be fair I like Cavill just as much, eventhough I do want an American.
