One of the themes shared in every new generation of Pokemon games is that the new region introduced is named after a real Japanese region. But that's all it is. Just the name. The Pokemon version of Kanto doesn't resemble the real Kanto region in the slightest, nor do the Hoenn or Sinnoh areas. Nowhere did it say that this new region had to look like it's real-life counterpart. It was merely just a suggestion to make this new region feel like it fits in with the estblished Pokemon world. Just like having a city where trainers start out and recieve their starter pokemon from a professor with a tree-themed last name or a Safari Zone/Pal Park type area would as well. However, these are all merely suggestions. In the end, it's your call, because this is your region and you can call it whatever you want.Also, I got 2 of the towns done. Man...those are harder than I thought they'd be.
So as you can see there will be a little description for each town as well. As I mentioned in response to Blacklight's post, I have no problem naming the region a Japanese name. I just don't know what else to name it and naming it after one of the regions would be pointless except that it would be a name at least since the "map" wouldn't resemble that Japanese region.
