The Force Awakens The Princess Leia Organa Solo / Carrie Fisher Thread

Someone should've asked her if she trained for sword fighting scenes.

I hope we get this. Leia wielding a saber.

I've personally never wanted to see Leia as a Jedi. It never seemed like something she'd be in to, so I'm glad JJ sees it that way too.

I did get a huge kick out of her holding the Bespin 'saber in Teaser #2, though. Might be fun to see her ignite it for a second, like Vader with Luke's 'saber in RotJ, but I don't think that will happen.

Carrie Fisher has always been (and will always be) an HBIC in my book. I love her response.

When I was a little girl, Leia was definitely my first "female protagonist" that didn't involve a Disney movie (which is ironic now :oldrazz:). Leia was one of my heroes, and she still is. Love her character.

As a kid, I had lots of Leia toys (all in different outfits). Yes, my parents even gave me a Slave Leia action figure to add to my collection. Obviously, because of this depraved upbringing, I now work on street corners as a result of it. :whatever:

(... Or, maybe I was smart enough as a child to understand the outfit in the context of the film, just like how Carrie Fisher explained. Crazy, right?)

I am not a huge Star Wars collector anymore, but I know for certain that when I was a kid, I definitely had several options for Leia figures. My first Leia figure ever, actually, was her disguise as Boushh. If options for other figures are the issue, then yes, definitely make other figures to give Leia more variety ... But keep the Slave Leia merchandise, too!

Also, I pay attention to Disney collecting. Disney recently released a super special edition doll of Princess Jasmine in her SLAVE outfit. Hypocritical much, Disney? :o

I nominate Leia for most likely to be an OT Obi-Wan style fibber in the new trilogy.

So, how did everyone think Carrie did? I thought she did a great job at portraying a stoic, calm but strong leader.

[BLACKOUT]A little bummed she and Harrison won't have anymore scenes, because they had quite good chemistry. Also really wanted to see a scene with her and Kylo. I'm sure we will get that in the coming movies. Loved the part where they show her feeling Han's death. [/BLACKOUT]

When Leia appeared and had her hug with Chewie as Han smiled on watching, my eyes welled up for the first and only time during the film. What a beautifully poignant moment.

One of the only times that I felt something there where eyes welled up a bit also...

So cute to see Carrie displaying the Disney Infinity figure version of her.

I hope they reveal why Leia chose not to become a Jedi, it's one of the things I wondered throughout.

I enjoyed Carrie's performance, but found her inability to move her upper lip really distracting.

I never liked that she became a Jedi in the old EU. It never made sense for her character to me-- I don't think she'd have the time, the temperament or the interest in becoming a Jedi. I was glad to hear JJ say about the same thing a couple of months ago.

I'm not surprised that she's not a Jedi. When you look at who she is in the OT her being a general fits. I don't think she would have the interest in that lifestyle.

I really enjoyed Leia's role and also Carrie's performance in this film. Storyline-wise, it makes perfect sense. She is aged, wise, and still a bit sarcastic... but a bit softer than before. After 30 years of fighting the dark side and being a soldier/military leader... of course she is going to appear as she did in the film. All of her scenes were pretty emotional for me.

However, did anyone else notice that they deleted the scene where Maz hands her Luke's lightsaber from the trailer? How come?
Also... according to earlier spoilers, Leia was responsible for building a super weapon known as the 'Hammer,' that could easily destroy enemy fleets. What happened to this?

In regards to people who have said things about Carrie Fisher's appearance in the film:

Aging happens. It happens to all of us, God willing. Considering Carrie Fisher's history with, um, "substances," as well, I thought she looked really good in the movie. Her outfit, her hair, her demeanor ... She was an older Leia; exactly how I would envision it.

While I hate it when people rather seem to talk about how an older woman looks rather than her performance, Fischer is kind of an exception where with her history, you can't help but notice it on her here with her voice but despite all of it, I think she looks and performed great considering. She was Leia the moment she stepped off that shuttle. Hamill did too and he looked horrible before filming. I mean both did so I'm glad they seem to be in better health.

Exactly. She looked great. Everyone ages, that’s just how life works.

Harrison and Mark don’t have to put up with this, it’s ridiculous that she has to.

It's not the aging that I personally disliked (obviously) it was the delivery of her lines. They were just empty. Also could have been what was written for her. But the "I was stupid thinking I could bring like back" made me cringe. Also her atire. She looked out of place in the Star Wars universe.

I found it incredibly distracting that Leia aged to look exactly like my grandma. I'm not talking about Carrie Fisher's general look, but the look they gave Leia herself - from her body type to her hairstyle to the exact clothes she was wearing.

It also felt a bit awkward that I saw the film with my family. The whole time I was thinking if my dad (her son) noticed the uncanny resemblance.

I have no problem with people ageing, but it was terribly distracting that Leia's mouth was the only thing that seemed to move on her face. Yes yes the double standards in the industry for ageing women are terrible, but to me it practically killed the emotion in her interactions with Ford.

i absolutely love how Carrie Fisher shoots back at all the people criticizing her appearance. personally, i thought she looked good and in the best shape she's been in the last 15 or so years.

I saw her play, Wishful Drinking, on Broadway a few years ago. It was awhile before TFA was announced, and she definitely has lost a lot of weight since then.

I think Wishful Drinking was filmed for HBO - if you ever get a chance to check it out, see it. It’s hilarious. I’ve always loved Carrie Fisher as a writer, and she just does this wonderful job talking about her life that’s just never been normal on stage.

She talked about Star Wars, she showed a chart of all of the marriages her parents went through after their tabloid divorce. At one point her daughter was dating the grandson of Elizabeth Taylor - who Carrie’s father left her mother for years ago, and she was worried they might be related, Carrie went through the whole chart and assured her they were just related by scandal. :funny:

It’s a great play - definitely check it out.
