Gyllenhaal

Maggie Gyllenhaal is in final talks to star opposite Christian Bale in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight," the next installment in the revitalized Batman franchise.
She'll play the role of Rachel Dawes, played by Katie Holmes in "Batman Begins." Holmes dropped out of the project earlier in the year.

Nolan is set to begin lensing in the late spring or early summer. Pic is eying a summer 2008 release.

Producers are Emma Thomas, Charles Roven and Nolan.

Legendary Pictures and Warners are co-financing partners on the project.

Gyllenhaal, a new mother, was most recently in theaters with "Stranger than Fiction" and "World Trade Center."

Gyllenhaal is repped by Creative Artists Agency and Benderspink.

Just found this thread. Something I saw whilst watching the film again and noticed something.

Was Rachel adjacent to or in the building behind the one that blew up?

It did seem a bit odd the way they showed her die. Normally the flames tend to engulf the person who dies in those kinda shots. Strange stuff.

She was inside the building. I guess they didn't want to go too graphic and show her being engulfed in flames.

I was really turned off to Rachael b/c she was too naive. She didn't understand Bruce, his intentions, and even to a lesser extent, Harvey. She just couldn't see the big picture. She couldn't see that Gotham needed more than what she went to law school for with corruption everywhere and a psychopath genius wreaking all types of havoc. I got the feeling that she still hadn't forgiven they way Bruce acted at the Joe Chill parole hearing and there was nothing that he could do...even the "wrong" right thing to do that could change her view of him. But with all of that...I feel she was necessarily in the movies.

I liked Rachel in BB, I hated her in TDK, and not just because she was played by Maggie Gyllenhaal.
