The Resident Evil Thread

I can't remember, but I think I beat the original (as in the PS1 game) without a guide. It's been a long time, but I'm pretty sure I didn't actually have internet at that time, and my grandparents just loled at buying a guide to a video game. I probably used a guide for the GCN version, but that's been awhile, too.

Having never played any of the RE games, I am going to pick up the remake. Seems like a good starting point.

REMake is a good introduction, for sure. It's not just a great game, it's literally the first game. The series has changed a lot in recent years, though. RE4 is a pretty good starting point, too, for the newer style of RE4. And RE4 is just an awesome piece of entertainment, no matter what the "old school" haters will tell you.

The HD remaster looks amazing! I downloaded it on PS4. I never got to play this remake because I didn't have Gamecube so finally I get a change. I remember the original to be hard so I might pick easier difficulty. Which is the original difficulty of those 3 choices?

I went ahead and bought this. I had never played any of the resident evil games before 4 to be honest, only watched people play them. This game definitely doesn't hold your hand, I can tell you that right now. I'm gonna try to refrain from using a guide so I get the most raw experience.

I have a feeling this will be free on Plus by next year but I think I may get it anyway this weekend, especially with that 10% discount which should shave $2 off. Not much, but I have $45 sitting in my account

I hope you are playing with the original control type. I think old Resident Evil games should be played like that. You move too fast with the new controls.

Walking = Very Easy
Hiking = Easy
Mountain Climbing = Normal

Climbing K2 with just a sandwich and an Ipod = Hard

Stupid question probably, but is there a physical release for this game (the HD Remake)?

What the **** is a physical release?

Looks like it could. Ducktales wasn't supposed to get a physical release, but got one months later when sales took off.

I doubt it considering they didnt release one for the other Resident Evil remasters (CV and 4)

There was a limited edition PS3 physical copy in Japan, but besides that, no. As Havok said, all the previous remasters also never got a physical release.

Ok, so the game is 20GB, why is it that heavy? It's not even as long as RE4, and probably doesn't have as many extra contents, and RE4 remastered is no heavier than 15GB.

On PS4 the file is around 15GB. It said over 20GB before I downloaded it but it wasn't that big. At first it downloaded 3.14GB and then it downloaded rest on the backround.

I recall reading at some point that a lot of the data was due to the pre-rendered backgrounds taking up a lot of space. How big was the Code Veronica HD remaster?

CVX is not on Steam, can't find the info there.

Alien Isolation was around 20GB when installed with all the updates. Kinda surprised that RE is as big.

Most likely it is because it is uncompressed. Though is no good reason for it to be that large. The audio is bad, and there are plenty of bad textures. This was a cheap and cheerful release, so there was very little optimizing. It is why it is only 30fps on the consoles.

This is going to be the Silent Hill collection on 360 all over again isn't it?

When they rereleased SH2 and SH3 for PS3 and 360 they couldn't get the production disks they used for the original games so they used some sort of beta disks that they didn't try to update. Eventually after much outcry they did do an update the PS3 that fixed tons of graphical errors and game issues but they just didn't bother for the 360 which pissed me off because I love SH2 and SH3.

Maybe the 20GB size was due to the updated movements of Jill's...yeah, very likely.
