Capcom The Resident Evil Thread

I like Freddy too. I wonder if Mr. X was inspired by him. He grows claws eventually.

I hope that part of the game where you can find and kill Brad from the first game is in it.

If all goes well, hopfuly RE3 will get the same treatment.

I might have missed it, but did RE 1 get a remake/remaster treatment?

Way back on the Gamecube. It got a re-release on current platforms.

Should be pretty cheap. It got a total graphical overhaul, which for its time looked damn amazing. Like the old game, it has pre-rendered backgrounds, which almost look photo realistic, and fixed camera angles like the old games. And I think you have 2 control schemes options. Regular and tank controls.

oh, so you have the option of not using Tank control? nice. I never liked that.

is RE 2 Remake ditching the tank control, too?

The RE2 remake will basically play like RE4.

never played RE4. did that ditch tank control?

No. It is amazing what taking away the fixed camera angle and moving to a behind a shoulder perspective does to how the game feels.

never played RE4. did that ditch tank control?
RE4 was a huge advance in terms of control. It gives you way more freedom to move and aim than RE1-3 and Code Veronica ever did. I never felt like a "tank" while moving like I did in previous games.

RE4 = tank movement + aim. I hate tank movement. Being unable to strafe or run in a specific direction immediately is pure nightmare.

I'd love to see Jill's speed, reflex, and stamina put into play with this engine.

I didn't try to strafe a lot, but I think it is doable in RE4.

Step into the shoes of rookie police officer Leon Kennedy.

RE2-Gameplay_06-20-18.jpg

Capcom has released an official gameplay video of the upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake following E3 2018 last week.
Here is an overview of the video, via Capcom:
We’ve just released a new gameplay video showcasing some of the terrifying gameplay and tense exploration players can expect to see as they step into the shoes of rookie police officer Leon Kennedy on his first day working in the Raccoon City Police Department.
In the video you can see a sneak preview of just some of the fresh horrors you can experience in Resident Evil 2. Zombies are brought to life with a horrifyingly realistic wet gore effect as they react in real time taking instant visible damage. Combined with the over-the-shoulder camera perspective, players are now even more up close and personal with their enemies making the Resident Evil gameplay experience more visually terrifying than before.
Resident Evil 2 is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 25, 2019.

Where can you get the demo? I wanna play it

RE4 is $4.99 right now, sweet. I never owned the remaster, I will change my mind now.
Where can you get the demo? I wanna play it
If it's not available on any digital store, we'll have to wait for the game.

Claire rolls up in Raccoon City.

Resident-Evil-2_2018_07-20-18_Top.jpg

Capcom shared new information on its Resident Evil 2 remake during San Diego Comic-Con 2018, including the announcement of a GameStop and EB Games-exclusive collector’s edition for North America and the reveal of the game’s box art.

Here are the details, via the PlayStation Blog:
Leon’s Younger Look
Leon’s younger look in Resident Evil 2. Compared to later entries, the goal was to give him more of a fresh-faced rookie look in contrast to the hero that he becomes later on in the series. Famous for having one of the worst first days on the job in history (they cancelled his welcoming party and everything), a lot of thought was put into how Leon’s new, yet classic, look would work with modern photorealistic graphics. As a result, the team created a physical version of Leon’s costume, using photogrammetry technology to scan his clothes into the game and added minor details and changes afterwards.

Claire Redfield
Resident Evil 2 isn’t complete without Claire, our hero who comes to Raccoon City searching for her brother Chris. Claire’s updated design uses the same technology, scanning in a real-world costume to capture every last detail of her outfit. The team had quite a bit of discussion on how to design her new look, and how much of it should retain her appearance from the original PlayStation Resident Evil 2. Ultimately, the team decided on an appearance that would line up with the iconic scene of Claire entering Raccoon City on her motorcycle. The team is extremely happy with her final design, and hope you all enjoy it as well!

Resident-Evil-2_2018_07-20-18_001.jpg

Raccoon City
For the city itself, the team put a major focus on two concepts that permeate throughout the game: A sense of wetness, and playing off a fear of the dark. Using the powerful RE Engine, the team has been able to achieve their goal of creating a sense of dread through these visual cues. The events of Resident Evil 2 take place on a rainy day in Raccoon City, causing puddles and flooding in parts of the city, while others areas are covered in the grotesque aftermath of clashes with the undead and other terrors lurking in the gloom.

Zombies
Finally, it’s not Resident Evil 2 without zombies! Hirabayashi and the team discussed how they designed the scourge of undead in the remake. Simply put, they wanted to create something monstrous that you didn’t want to be bitten by! To that end, zombies have been created with the same concepts of wetness and darkness in mind, ensuring that every encounter is just as tense as the one before.

So they added rain and then had to change Claire's outfit because of it. Oh well... I still hope for the original suit as an alternative.

At least she's still a biker. I also noticed the holstered gun strapped to her leg. Does she arrive to the city with a gun like that? It's a change from the original. Is the intro gonna be drastically different?

Claire probably lives in a state where open carry is allowed, it seems. Or she has a special permit? The plate is the date of the original release, but it's a Raccoon city plate. Didn't she get there to find her brother?

Resident Evil 2 will offer a deeper narrative experience, says Capcom July 18, 2018

Capcom explained the Resident Evil 2 remake will deepend the original's core story.

Capcom’s upcoming remake of Resident Evil 2 has already been teased to include a few tweaks to the original’s story, including the switch to dual campaigns, but it seems the changes won’t stop there.

In a recent interview with Gaming Bolt, Capcom brand manager Mike Lunn provided a better indication of how the upcoming remake’s narrative will differ from the original Resident Evil 2.

He explained it will be a deeper experience through extended character interactions, more explorable areas, and a few secret enhancements. Lunn’s full explanation can be seen below.

For example, there will be places in the original game, that you just drove by, or maybe just walked by, or people that you talk to that maybe had a handful of sentences. You’re really going to have deeper experiences with those. Sometimes you can actually go on and play for an extended period. Sometimes you have a little bit more deeper story with that person. They’re more involved than they were in the previous game.

For fans of the original that are concerned the remake’s story will take too many liberties, Lunn also promised that “the main idea, the main arcs of the story are very similar.”

In fact, in the interview, he mentioned the team kept the seasoned fans in mind when implementing changes. Certain elements, such as puzzles and enemy locations, have been swapped to keep players that have run through the original more than once on their toes. “If you played it before, there’s going to be a lot of new stuff that you’re not going to expect,” he said.
It was previously revealed a few other modern tweaks will be in the remake, including a transition to a fluid third-person over-the-should camera, similar to the one used in Resident Evil 4, as well as an adaptive difficulty setting. However, it won’t be throwing everything out.

In particular, the original’s fan-favorite Fourth Survivor and Tofu modeswill still be accessible.

Resident Evil 2 details Claire Redfield

New screenshots from Gamescom 2018.

Capcom released new information and screenshots of its upcoming Resident Evil 2remake at Gamescom 2018 featuring Claire Redfield.

Here are the details, via Capcom:
Recently revealed at gamescom, Claire makes her gameplay debut in Resident Evil 2! Providing a slice of her full campaign, Claire has her own terrifying encounter to deal with in the depths of the Raccoon City police station.
Resi-Evil-2_08-21-18_001.jpg
Claire Redfield has been on a mission to find her missing brother Chris – a mission that brings her to Raccoon City. Fans of the original Resident Evil 2will be intimately familiar with the iconic scene of Claire riding into town on her motorcycle, shortly before meeting up with rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and working together to escape the zombie hordes plaguing the city.
Resi-Evil-2_08-21-18_002.jpg
Surviving the streets of the once-lively city, Claire manages to make her way to the Raccoon City police station, hoping to find information on the whereabouts of her brother, Chris… but she finds something much more sinister instead. In this preview, Claire explores a new portion of the R.P.D. before encountering a small, young abandoned child hiding in the sewers and waterways beneath the iconic station. Long-time fans need no introduction to who this child is, or the reason she’s running scared; Sherry Birkin warns Claire that a horrendous monster is right behind her, and the next chapter in her fight for survival begins.
Resi-Evil-2_08-21-18_003.jpg
A mutated figure wielding a pipe is out to crush anything that stand in his way, and sets his eyes on our heroine as nothing more than a roadblock to be destroyed. The resourceful Claire will have her survival skills put to the test, but has a few weapons at her disposal – including a grenade launcher packed with flammable rounds of ammunition.
Resi-Evil-2_08-21-18_004.jpg
Carefully navigating the machinery and steam coming from broken pipes, it’s hard to tell where an attack might come from next. Conserving ammunition is key, and knowing when, and where, to get a few shots in may be the only thing between survival and certain death in this tense encounter. Sending the creature over the edge will reunite Claire and Sherry, but for how long…?
Resi-Evil-2_08-21-18_005.jpg
Just like with Leon, Claire will have her own, full campaign that takes her through Raccoon City, the police department, and beyond. Familiar faces from the original game have received stunning upgrades in this remake, using the RE Engine to scan real people, right down to their clothing, to bring the heroes, villains, and world of Resident Evil 2 to life. The new Resident Evil 2 wraps everything up in an experience that both veteran fans and Resident Evil newcomers can enjoy.
Resident Evil 2 is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 25, 2019.
