Days of Future Past The Sentinels - Part 1

I was really hoping we would see the X-Men team fight the classic Sentinels. :/

I loved the future sentinels they were ruthless and the 70's version were more classic I with they were more action with the 70's vesion but
movie was pretty sweet

They would've been better if we actually saw that they could be defeated instead of being totally unstoppable.

This. Missed oppurtunity with the sentinels in this film IMO.

The future sentinels shown should have just been ground units, or regular patrol units. They could have been defeatable, let some x-men actually take them out and have true hero moments.

Then have the one ultimate Mark X sentinel hunt them down that is twice/triple the size of the regular future sentinels. That's honestly what I was expecting considering the scale that they advertised for the future sentinel on the empire magazine.

I love the designs for both the future and 70s sentinels, but come on. Complete bare bones action here.

I have to say they did a fantastic job with the Sentinels in this. The future Sentinels in particular are truly terrifying. Once they eliminated the threat of the big players aka Storm and Magneto, they dealt with the rest of the team like insects and it was almost disturbing to watch. In particular, Storm and Iceman's death(with Kitty helplessly looking on) were real emotional moments.

Concept art looks cool even though I'm very relieved that we got te film version over all of those. I previously thought that the mystique and the sentinel x connection came during reshoots but this proves otherwise as I see a strong connection between the two. It makes me think that they used mystique to get their physical power (shape shifting into blades, claws, drills, altering mass ect.) and their actual powers from Rogue (in the original cut). Remnants of that are in the powers they actually use, Ice(absorbed in X2), fire (absorbed from Pyro in X2), metallic skin (absorbed in X3) and then they included diamond and rock in later versions of the film.

I liked that the future Sentinels were unbeatable. It really sold the idea that the X-Men of the future were totally screwed, that going into the past was the ONLY option left. Plus, they did take out a couple of the Sentinel carriers during the final battle and Magneto did his cool jet trick.

It's very rarely you have a TRUELY unstoppable force in a film, and in this case, we actually got that for a change. And I liked that, and it was done really damn well. The Sentinels were terrifying.

Guys, do you Apocalypse would have had a chance against the Future Sentinels?

Apocalypse is a telekinetic right? I'm sure a telekinetic would be able to destroy the Sentinels. Too bad the future mutants didn't have Jean with them :csad:

This, I expected the X-Men to take some of them down, but what I got instead actually really raised the stakes of the story and it was still awesome, but brutal to see the X-Men being picked apart like toys.

You can have them still be terrifying and have them be beatable when you have 3-4 mutants team up on one. But only being able to beat them when they are in their traveling pod thingys was a bit extreme.

But the sentinels can adapt to mutant powers? Wouldn't they adapt to the telekinesis?

They only adapted to transformative physical mutations like rock, diamond, fire, ice - things their Mystique-derived structure could replicate.

Thanks X-Maniac. Not to mention, Apocalypse's telekinesis would have become way more powerful over the years.

The sentinels do not absorb powers, it just appears like they do because of how they adapt to their opponent. They don't need to absorb powers in order to have the abilities that they do. All a sentinel needs to do is look at Colossus and it could simply change into armor like him, it doesn't need to absorb it. And machines can make ice and fire.

Think about it, the sentinels do not have any extraordinary powers. It isn't like they can absorb Blink's ability to make portals.

Their abilities have nothing to do with Rogue, they do not absorb powers. They observe, interact, and adapt to their opponent.

Can u imagine Dark Phoenix Jean (from her death scene in X3) fighting in the temple the future sentinels:wow::hrt:

Yes but I do think they still would've used Rogues DNA so their mechanics can adapt. Mystique can shape shift but can't shape shift herself into powers. She could look like Colossus but she wouldn't actually have metal skin. So I'd say they still have Rogue DNA in them, mixed in with all other mutants DNA to adapt to anything. They shifted to diamond and rock form because they would have Emma and whoever else's DNA in them, but did you notice the sentinel was holding colossus when it shifted to his power. I think that is the Rogue DNA being able to take his power after touching him. My theory anyway.

Hank, using a serum derived from Mystique's blood, turned himself into Beast. He was also able to create another serum from the same base that not only suppressed powers, but allowed Xavier to walk again. It shows the miraculous abilities that could comes from using her DNA.

Mystique also showed in X1 that she could make metal claws, sure she wasn't able to reproduce adamantium claws, so Wolverine's were able to cut through her claws. But they were still metal claws.

Mystique can also create clothes, glasses, hats, etc...

She can create not organic things from her organic material. I don't see why scientists couldn't simply be able to make her mutation more focused that the transformation would actually be to what it was meant to be rather than a lesser copy.

And it isn't like Rogue in the movies has taken on the physical attributes of those who she touches. When she touched Wolverine in X1, she just got his healing ability, she didn't get his claws (bone or metal).

One of the sentinels had Lady Deathstrike-like claws. Those wouldn't be able to be replicated by using Rogue-like absorption because the nature of them in X2 is that they are artificially created.

The sentinels never use any non-physical power because they do not absorb powers, and yes I am counting fire and ice and physical powers.

Those feminine-looking concepts are freaky. They're a little feminine in the movie too, but those...damn.
