guess no one ever played with the old metal trash cans lids in the stores when you were kids. we used to use them like shields. wasnt saying it was a bad thing, just it reminds me of it. the straps look comfortable, still best part of the shield.

I actually really like the look of the shield. It bothered me at first because it wasn't all one piece... but after seeing the other display shield that was more traditional... I couldn't get over how cheap it looked. This one looks sturdy and durable and who's to say that this one is even the vibranium version anyway. Maybe he doesn't get that one till modern times.

not sure why it wouldnt be indestructible.

Mrpaul, so it could fit into "realism". :whatever:

Realism makes a movie more grounded and believable, and sometimes even comic book movies can benefit from it. However, comic books frequently break the laws of reality, and it is necessary in order to be true to the character's and their abilities for movies to also break these laws in a believable manner.

With that said, I personally don't think making Cap's shield indestructible will be too hard of a sell to the audience. They already did it more or less with Wolverine (by lacing his skeleton with Admantium), and nobody in the audience seemed to question the reality of it all. So, I think we should be okay on that one.:yay:

I was thinking more about the fact that maybe the shield couldn't be made until after Tony Stark created the "new element" in Ironman 2... so for continuity sake, Cap couldn't have a Vibranium shield because Stark made it clear to Tony in IM2 that they didn't have the technology to create the element (even though he had the knowledge)

I'm not all about the reality of it all. It's nice to make things as "plausible" as possible though. If you stray too far, you may lose some of the viewers.

did they say that was vibranium in Ironman 2? I don't think it was ever named.

They didn't name it.... I just assumed that was what it was. I heard other fans around me whispering the name during the scene aswell.

hmmm....if they go with the comic origin, and eventually include Wakanda in their movies, Then Vibranium should be from the meteor that hit Wakanda long ago. Mayhaps Stark's element is an idea extracted from trying to recreate the shields element.

Definitely. It should also be nothing like this.

:pal:

Cap's shield should fly NOTHING like that. Painting a frisbee and throwing it would have been better than that.

I think that it should really feel like it has weight and that only Cap can really hurl it like that. Most would have a hard time running with it.

Wow that video of Captain America taking down a thug was pretty pathetic. In the one shot where it showed the shield in the sky I thought it looked like a UFO.

Indestructible - a) coz otherwise it'd be kinda pointless; b) since Stark already has it sitting in his basement (WITHOUT erosion!)

I thought it could have been cool to have him start off in WWII with the older triangular shield as well....then introduce the circular one when he wakes up decades later.

It looks like he has the shield here...

Does that mean it's indestructible?

......which isnt cannon as it was deleted, thank god.

I have a problem with the way that looks purely based on Cap's positioning. I now it was just a nod to the fans but seriously, if Cap was in a mid-air explosion, landed in the sea and got frozen - is that how he'd look?

I still maintain from when that 1st got revealed that it literally looks like they just got a Randy Bowen figurine of Cap in 'heroic pose no.2' and just threw it in there. :oldrazz:

Not too sure about making Stark's new element Vanadium. I think a Black Panther film is in the works as well, and that is kinda to vital to Wakanda's advanced society.

In regards the Shield, I hope they do make it indestructible. I think the convenience of it being accidentally made not long after Cap was might be a bit much. Better to say the base disc was made by accident say, in the late 30's using Vanadium and other exotic metals, and despite all efforts to recreate the alloy they couldn't, and when Cap comes along they see a use for it (the raised centre star and base straps could have been welded on after).

They could maybe even use the original disc as a maguffin that Hydra are after, hence the NY chase scene. Serves a dual purpose then: A means to introduce Hydra and a means to connect Steve to the Shield.

Though if it could be welded, it couldn't be indestructible. :awesome:
