I really think the Spidey forum needs this, just to float ideas about what the lineup should be, casting, what villains should and shouldn't return, and what kind of story the movie should tell. Redemption story? Dirty Dozen-style team up with Spidey? Anything is welcome here. My own dream line up is as follows

Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn/Green Goblin, with Chris Cooper possibly appearing later as Norman.

Annette Bening as Carolyn Trainer/Doctor Octopus (It would be awesome to see a female villain introduced, I love the kind of dynamic it provides, and it's a damn shame Spidey doesn't have more female baddies)

Richard Jenkins as Adrian Toomes/Vulture

Javier Bardem as Sergei Kravinoff/Kraven the Hunter

Stephen Fry as Quentin Beck/Mysterio

Paul Giamatti as Aleksei Sytsevich/Rhino (I'd love to see him come back, I really enjoyed him despite of his minimal screen time)

I know Foxx as Electro isn't exactly universally beloved here, but I actually really liked him, and maybe he could finally achieve some sort of redemption.

What are the odds of this idea getting scrapped?

Definitely going to be interesting to see what Sony's response to Suicide squad is.

Sony have been sent a curve ball, will be interesting to see how they respond.

lol. There had to have been an "oh, ****!' dropped by someone from Sony during a meeting when the Suicide Squad was announced. It'll definitely be interesting to see what happens next.

Though if the SS movie is a hit, that may also work in Sony's favor as a trend for people being interested in seeing a bunch of villains take the center stage. As of right now imo, SS has stolen S6's thunder--because prior to that announcement, the S6 was a unique idea at least for CBMs. And SS has a release date coming before S6 too, if I'm not mistaken. Sony is all soup sandwich.

I would like to think that at somewhere in Sony Studios executive offices, there's at least one person with enough common sense and is trying to tell everyone how this movie is a bad idea, and just won't work especially without Spider-man.

I would like to think that, but then again they did release ASM2.

If WB gets even half the actors that are being rumored for Suicide Squad, consider Sinister Six DOA.

If Sony thinks their Sinister 6 is going to compete against DC's Suicide Squad they have another thing coming... As far as villains overall, DC takes the cake plain and simple. Especially when going against just Spider-Man's villains, especially in the Webbiverse. They've been weak.

why would sony plan all this and then like babies go aww but we wanted to be the first to do a villains movie *throws rattle out of buggy* forget it now :argh:

Not because of Suicide Squad. :funny:

I meant like, given what we've been hearing about Sony and Spider-Man over the last few weeks, I think they might just outright cancel it.

Aside from the problems caused by the fact that Suicide Squad will come out first (so no longer a unique concept, and if it flops it could put people off going to S6) the other problem is that Sony will be looking to keep the budget under control for S6 while Suicide Squad could have a bigger budget.

Suicide Squad will be DC's first attempt of expanding their DC cinematic universe without a high profile character, if the film were to do badly it could have an impact on their other films. So I would expect to see DC trying to make sure that it is a success, which will probably mean giving it a good budget, going for higher profile actors etc. This could be hard for S6 to compete against when Sony will be wanting to keep the costs low and the film very well might not even have Spider-man in it to draw some of his shrinking audience to it.

I agree with this, but just to add, Sinister Six would be the quasi-sequel to the Amazing Spider-Man 2. The lowest grossing and most panned Spider-man movie. Interest in the franchise is flat-lined. Even if the movie was good, which I doubt, it already has the deck stacked against it before it opens.

I'll readily concede that A list trumps brand recognition. Will Smith and Tom Hardy trumps Doc Ock and Green Goblin. But, I'm not having it that Suicide Squad have more interesting characters than the members of the Sinister Six. Spider-Man's rogues (IMHO) are second only to Batman with regards to interesting and complex characters.

Sinister Six
Doc Ock
Green Goblin
Kraven
Mysterio
Chameleon
Vulture

Suicide Squad (Assault on Arkham)
Deadshot
Harley Quinn
Killer Frost
King Shark
Black Spider
Captain Boomerang

I'm sorry, but no. Both with regards to motivation and visually the Sinister Six are better (on paper) how it ends up on screen will be the ultimate test. Also, you can't use ASM 1 and ASM 2 as a barometer as those movies were centred around the hero. The S6 movie will be centred around the villains, has new writers and a new director.

700m is not 'flat-lined' interest.

"When it comes to villains, DC takes the cake." This is in relation to how well DC creates their villains in comparison to Marvel. This does not mean DC has better villians, DC just does a better job with them when it comes to comic book movies.

Also, you absolutley can use TASM and TASM 2 as a barometer. They weren't the main focus of the movie but they each had their origins and individual screen time for character development. DC manages to create great villains with the same mold, why can't the Webbiverse?

If they're going the Spiderman/S6 team up route the only threat that would be big enough to justify their teaming up, and would be a character who Sony has the rights to, would be Venom or even Carnage imo. In fact, I could see Carnage as being someone who would go after both Spiderman and the S6, there by putting everyone at risk . The typical choice would be Venom but since he's kinda an anti hero type and wouldn't turn on the other villains who want Spiderman I wouldn't use him . Plus, he's been done before.

Carnage is a bad ass truly evil villain who would go after the other villains and Spiderman if they stood in his way.

I like that idea, but I also think that the Goblin could also play that role, whether it's Norman or Harry. Goblin is Spidey's most feared enemy, and the one who's caused the most amount of pain for him.

Don't know about that. Doc Ock alone should draw more interest than any of the Suicide Squad guys, being more recognizable due to SM2.

I could see that, but if they're going the reboot route as rumored ,something tells me Sony is gonna dicth the Goblins and the Osborns. However if they stick with the Webbverse , Harry would be a bit awkward given that in the Webbverse Harry starts the group himself. As far as Norman goes, I think he's dead and that's that, and I don't think Sony's going back to him again. I think that they were gonna set that up but now I think that's off the table in addition to the Osborns in general.

I really hope Sony sticks to the plan. Maybe Goblin organizes the group and is co-leader with Doc Ock (Octavius or Trainer), but they clash.
