Age of Ultron The Steve Rogers/Captain America Thread - Part 1

If I'm gonna "ship" Cap with anyone other than Peggy now, it would be Maria Hill. I agree with those that say despite being unable to be with the love of his life, the guy still deserves to move on and have some companionship. I prefer Hill over Sharon (ew), Sif or Natasha for that. Steve/Maria would be similar enough to Steve/Sharon from the comics, but without the ick factor and with a character who's already carved a nice place for herself in the MCU and has a working rapport with him.

yes! I think Hill can do, she doesn´t have to be developed, like Sharon has and we have seen both Steve and Maria interacting together, the good rapport they
have, etc
But we only have BW and SW confirmed for civil war, right? I don´t think there is time to give Steve a love story arc.

I agree that if we do get to see Steve begin to "move on" in Phase 3, it won't necessarily be in CW. But it could be. It doesn't have to be some huge subplot like Natasha/Bruce was here. Just show their relationship has progressed and they're kind of an item now, but keep it in the background.

I think Scarlet Witch is the best option if not Sharon

I like Hill, but I think she's a bit too...I don't want to say boring, but she is very normal compared to other females in the MCU.

Cap himself is a very simple guy, so I think he needs someone a little more interesting. I know most won't agree, but I wouldn't mind seeing him and Wanda together. Plus, I could see Evans and Olsen having great chemistry. Then again, Vison/Scarlet Witch just HAS to happen, so I don't know.

I wouldn't mind Steve staying alone either.

I feel like the twins were supposed to be significantly younger than the rest of the team, so even minus the extra 75 years tacked on to Steve's age, that pairing might seem...off. Plus, it seems like they were hinting at the canonical SW/Vision pairing in AoU, so I'm assuming that's where her interest will lie.

didnt Cap and Scarlett Witch hook up in the comics as well? I thought i read a story where they did. I know Vision/Scarlet Witch are each other's respective main love interests.

I never considered the age thing. I assume that Cap is around 30. Wanda and Pietro are drinking age at least, I assume. I dont think that's that bad. Also most age differences between adults is just standard. Ruffalo is almost 50 and Johannson is 30

Yeah, I'd be all over Hill or SW for Cap.

I really did love him in this movie. Most of all, I loved his relationship with Tony. I cannot remember if I wrote it in this thread or not, but their brotherly, at times surrogate father/son dynamic was really well developed by Whedon. There were times when Tony was leveled and cut down simply by a look from Steve. And the
SW vision, with Cap telling Tony he could've stopped this... Really does convey the amount of authority Steve has over Tony, as well as Tony actual regard for the old man.

For me, the Howard/Cap/Tony thread is one of the MCU's biggest and best character and story arcs. Tony has major Daddy issues, and he works with his father's greatest creation, and the man his father spent years and resources trying to find. That's some massive fodder going into CIVIL WAR.

It might not be bad physically, but Cap is essentially the dad/old man of the team so I can definitely see why it'd come off as weird.

Hill would be a perfectly fine partner for him, but I just think it lacks pizzazz, yknow? There haven't been any great love stories in the MCU so far (besides Tony and Pepper), so if Cap does get a love interest I'd want it to be interesting.

I'm not giving up on BW and Hulk, though. I think if they stick with it, that love story could be very touching. Then of course, Scarlet Witch and Vision can and should be great.

Not to mention that man's best friend killed his actual father, lol.

I know what you mean by lacking pizazz, but honestly, I think that's what his new relationship should be. This isn't his "great love" - because that's gone by - this is just something...low-key and comfortable. A nice, easy-going relationship that's easily put in the background but enough to let us know he's got a life and companionship outside of work, if that makes any sense.

Even Tony and Pepper, I thought they started off really good but fell short in the sequels.

:highfive:

The bromance in this movie was all kinds of awesome! Cap-Thor, Cap-Tony, Tony-Thor, and obviously the biggest brotherly love, Tony and Bruce.

Makes me sad that it's probably the most we'll ever get, what with the New Avengers and Civil War coming up. This movie is probably as familial as the big three will get, before schisms take place and relationships are damaged.

When they were all telling each other how they'll miss each other at the end, I'll miss them too.

I definitely thought Steve's vision tugged my heart strings the most. I also like that it's open to interpretation.

The line of thought that appeals to me most is

His greatest fear/regret is that he missed his chance at his dance with Peggy, and that he'll always be alone. I like this one because it shows how much Steve really loved Peggy, and how loyal he is to her. I understand why people would rather that he moved on, but even if he does I love that this vision showed how much he truly wanted to be with Peggy. Like they say, true love only happens once and I can see Steve living that. Deep down, he's just a simple good man.

You know. I could totally see this happening. If the day does come when/if they kill off Steve in the current MCU, like what happened between Rose and Jack in Titanic, he died, she went on to marry and have children, but when she goes on into that afterlife, she's back with Jack on that ship, being where she was happiest. I think it would be fitting if the same thing happens with Steve. His spirit leaves this world, he meets up with his Peggy, and he finally gets to finish that dance.

That's a great point. I was thinking that if he ever loved again, it would have to be someone who truly captivates him, but I definitely get what you're saying. Plenty of people can't make it work with their "true love" and settle down with someone who they're comfortable with. I could see that with Cap.

Well then, why not Sif after all? Mix it up where Cap is no longer the oldest guy on the block! With Sif, it wouldn't feel so weird!

I think I'd shed man tears if that happened, lol. If the vision of [BLACKOUT]him and Peggy dancing [/BLACKOUT]lasted any longer I might have teared up. Thankfully it was a quick glance at what could have been and nothing more, lol.

I mean if she shows up sure.

I dont think they'll give her that big of a role in Phase 3 or beyond outside of Thor films.

They should! She's another great female character in the MCU, and while I love Black Widow, I'm just tired of her being the go to gal for getting the cameos.

OT: I think they mismanaged Sif and the Warriors 3 a great deal. Sif is cool and all, but she really hasnt had much to do.

Im not opposed to giving her a bigger role, I just dont think they will do it.

Someone suggested Sif/Cap, but with Thor 3 being mostly in Asgard, I kind of hope for Thor/Sif to happen, in the glimpse in TDW, they better chemistry than Jane/Thor.

Back to Cap, I wouldn´t be against Wanda/cap, I think both Evans and Olsen can make it work.

I know who I want, they can do the crossover with DD in CW, bring Clare (Rosario Dawson) to patch up Cap while he hides, she is a fierce nurse, I think that would be someone Steve would like :cwink:

Also, yes.... That small detail, LOL!

I am really interested to see how they fit all these pieces together. And if the Russos and M&McF are better at incorporating a romance for Cap in this movie. I really wouldn't be opposed to them just cutting it out altogether, or maybe having Cap continue to get his flirt on with someone, but nothing really developing.

Yeah, I think just a little flirtation would be the best way to go in CW (with whoever it's gonna be with). Then when we catch up to him in the next Avengers installment, they can already be in a relationship and it won't seem like it came out of nowhere.

It does make sense.

It could be as matter-of-fact as him becoming fast friends with Sam except that in the case of whoever this prospective love interest is there are clear allusions that it is an intimate relationship or a friendship headed in that direction. That's all this fan needs.

Speaking of Sam, I loved that they included him. Couldn't have asked for any more. I also liked how they seem to be very personal friends ([BLACKOUT]talking about finding a place in Brooklyn[/BLACKOUT]), even more so than Steve and Tony or Steve and Thor.

Oh, no, no, no. I don't care what the comic books did or what the producers had originally planned, Clair is Matt's ultimate love interest. They will be the pair that come together, then break it off, come together, then break if off, then something big happens, and that will seal their fate once and for all, that they were meant for eachother!

And playing pool and laughing together!

I think Sam is people person and Steve doesn't seem to need to protect his vulnerability with Sam. Never mind the two generations worth of difference, those two are kinda on the same level in their mindset and experience. Steve is not going to share the same with a billionaire/playboy/genius or with the God of Thunder and heir to the throne of Aasgard.

Too much ego with those two to care about Steve's housing issues and such.
