So basically your saying that if a character have to use more than his braun and have to resort to of all things his brain its not fair? Come on now it wasn't like it was tag team affair with Galactus and Surfer. Galactus was out for the count and on the brink of death.

Did I say anything about fairness? We're talking about sheer power. The celestials are more powerful than the Silver Surfer but he beat them using his brain. Reed Richards beat Galactus but he is not stronger than him. For a character of near omnipotence, the Silver Surfer sure took a beating at the hands of Hulk.

Hulk and the Silver surfer are probably equal strength-wise because neither have limits. It's all willpower based. I think those two can beat on each other forever and it would go nowhere unless the Silver Surfer used a different power. Blast him into atoms or send him to another location or something. This thread is about sheer brute strength, though.

I'd just like to point out that those two beings the Surfer beat weren't Celestials. They looked like Celestials, but they were actually ancient cosmic gods who existed to preserve some kind of cosmic balance. Galactus kicked their asses ages ago and imprisoned them in the Kyln, that thing near the Crunch that eventually became an intergalactic prison.

Every bio says so, so it feels like common knowledge at this point, plus the guy actually gets stronger with each passing event. I mean the feats he accomplished in Planet and World War Hulk he'd never have been able to pull off when he first started off or even the 80s. Pulling a planet together and being able to destroy a quarter of a country by just walking I'd say trumps holding a mountain on your back and that was the bar set before. His strength is all based on how angry he gets and is there really a limit to emotions? From what I can tell you can be as happy as you want or as angry as you want so Hulk's actually got a limitless well to pull from. He overcomes any opponent through pure will. He's a big, stubborn, thug that hates to lose and that will always keep him going.

I don't believe there's a limitless well of anger in anybody. Nobody can stay angry forever at the level the Hulk is angry at. People get over s***. That's part of why I've always been indifferent to the Hulk as a character--he has a stupid, childish motivation. There can never really be any growth for the character in his classic, savage incarnation because he's a stunted child who would literally stop being that character if he ever managed to grow the hell up. That's why I enjoyed the professor Hulk era and the recent Planet Hulk era--a more intelligent Hulk is absolutely necessary to actually telling any good, progressive stories with the character. Otherwise you've got Loeb's Hulk comic: a series of issues with the Hulk mindlessly punching people and things.

That's why my interest in the Hulk was always with Bruce Banner. The alter ego of some characters are just more interesting such as Johnny Blaze or Clark Kent because there's not much to do with their superhero identities. They can't even be hurt physically. The real drama comes from their time out of costume. It's why I'm a big fan of Bruce Jones' run.

I meant the ability to crack the eastern seaboard. Given his size even a concentrated blow wouldn't likely be that destructive. He'd also have to do it many miles below the top soil. If they'd explained his gamma power can also effect gravitational forces then we're talking Super Saiya-jin power here.

Everybody who picks up a story tries to make more fantastic then the one they heard. Its like the greek stories of Gods and heroes the feats become more fantastic as time goes on.

Ah. So you didn't read World War Hulk yet? He was actually on the verge of destroying the eastern seaboard by just walking. He was that angry. Funny that you brought up the Super Saiya-jin, though, because Hulk was in fact glowing green at this point.

Hulk has also beaten Surfer to a pulp in a gladiator arena (I don't care how weakened they say he was. His obedience disc was off when Hulk started pummeling him.:oldrazz:).

And yet Surfer got up seconds after with no ill effects. Funny how you dont mention that, BEFORE Hulk broke his obedience disc, The Surfer beat the **** out of Hulk AND the warbound.

Not to mention, even when the Surfer's obedience disc was broken, he was still weakened by something else, this is why he had to leave Sakaar.

Sorry, but considering, Surfer got the better of that fight, Hulk had to at first team up and then catch him unaware's to get a few hits on him.

Yeah, but they still haven't explained it to that level yet. As far as I could see, he was just glowing. He doesn't grow bigger or heavier like in the Ang Lee film. So how could he really crack the tectonic plate just by walking unless they throw in the Super Saiya-jin excuse.

with the hulk, i do think emotionally there is a upper limit as to how pissed someone can get.

There are a lot of inconsistencies to the Hulk's power. You basically either get used to them or start ignoring his comics.

Inconsistencies or not, I am a big Hulk fan, and he needed help defeating a weakened Surfer, and was only able to get a hit on him when he took the Surfer surprise. I am a big Hulk fan, and he just isnt on the same level as The Silver Surfer.

Agreed. However the same SHOULD be true of Thor as well but it never is.

Inconsistencies are rampant with a lot of characters.

oh man all this talk about the strongest reminded me of this scene. i had forgot about it till now. you know how some scenes stick with you from when you 1st read comics. from marvel team up #28 ladies and gentlemen, not a what if or an imaginary... uh "comic" (if there is such a thing) story

Hulk and Thor I don't even wanna hear about, Hulk almost always wins but it doesn't make any fight sense to how.

I'm pretty sure he has the highest baseline strength in the MU. That's what Frank Tieri said about him when he put out that Herc mini a while back. I liked that mini too.

Anyway, Hulk beats pretty much everyone on strength though because he can get stronger as he gets more pissed. I don't know, maybe Sentry is stronger.

Skaar is someone worth mentioning though. He just got into a fight with SS after finally obtaining the old power. It was an AWESOME fight.

One day, some writer has to bring the Champion back to his original glory, and have him literally break a lot of fighters' bones. No Power Gem.

Agreed. I remember ppl trying to use that Planet Hulk fight awhile back to prove Hulk > Surfer, but that's really not how the fight went. Surfer was weakened, and never used (or possibly was even able to) other powers, plus he was mind controlled. He still was kicking around Hulk and the Warbound. It wasn't until they double teamed him that they got the upperhand. Even at that, Surfer just stood up and extended a hand in thanks before Hulk cheap shot him. Surfer still got up after that as well.

I'm pretty sure the obedience disk cut him off from the Power Cosmic. So he was operating at a tiny fraction of his power.
