People will continue to use the first one as a scapegoat but ignore the fact Godzilla vs Kong made almost 100m more than King of the Monsters which was hated and flopped and opened in far worse covid conditions
The first one made plenty of money...it had insane legs at the end. That excuse is dumb. While much of the movie was disliked Margot's HQ became ubiquitous at cons and in pop culture.
You make these weirdly bad analogies though trying to spin everything negative when it comes to WB sometimes. GvK and TSS are not comparable. First of all KOTM didn't "flop" it doubled a pretty high budget. (made $386 million on $170 million according boxofficemojo) It underperformed but hardly flopped and GvK was what everyone was looking forward to anyways and while the Pandemic was in swing still the vaccine in America was going strong so GvK sort of became the "we are back baby!" film that people flocked to. (even those that had little interest in seeing it) By your logic then BvS should be thought of better because it made much more than MOS did despite it underperforming.
TSS is a different animal altogether. First of all Delta is worse than Alpha and scaring the bejesus out of even the vaccinated. Second, unlike a Monster Movie like GvK you could watch TSS on a nice TV and probably not feel cheated as a general audience member. Third, every week now a big movie is coming out which is part of the reason EVERYTHING is underperforming. GvK had almost no real competition.
Look if people need to find ways to spin the money it makes that is on them. WB certainly isn't. If they cared they would have pushed back the HBO Max premiere. While some around here and on Twitter, especially the Cultists, will spin it badly the only people that matter right now are WB.
