Comics The SUPERIOR Spider-Man - Part 2

Eh... Not really. Emo parker i always enjoyed the least. There's a difference between being an everyman and being quite literally the man with the worst luck ever....

Well, we can politely disagree. I've always enjoyed the stories where he had to overcome his crappy life because he needed to be Spider-Man (the responsible thing to do).

I always quite enjoyed May and Mj being the people he comes home to and uplift him. Makes it far more worthwhile on what to keep fighting for.

Having MJ around was nice for a short while... and having May as a confident was all too brief... and whether they are there for him (as support as Spider-Man) or not is irrelevant, because they ARE still the reasons why he keeps fighting for.. .especially Aunt May. :yay:

Its hard to swallow stories about a guy who's been though hell , comes home to no one, is all alone, tries to stay positive and up-beat... And just keeps kicking for no other reason than its the right thing to do... Its just all sorts of depressing. It was perfectly fine in the early years when a giant chunk of the serious traumatic storylines hadn't happened yet... But after 50 years of history, and the proverbial "crap pile" keeps getting exponentially larger and worse as time progresses... Its just really sad.

Just in regards to deaths... we have the death of Uncle Ben, death of Captain Stacy, death of Gwen... yeah, I can see where you would think that Peter's life was pretty darn sweet in those early years... lulz

It can easily get to the point where readers read spidey for his upbeat outlook on life for an everyman... To feeling better about yourself because "hey, at least i don't have it as bad as peter parker!"

I think that's been a theme since Day One, as well as the "no matter how bad things get, we can overcome"... which is especially nice in this day and age of hopelessness and the real possibilities of a bleak future.

As I stated, in MY opinion, Peter works better this way.

:yay:

What about it?

It's a nice synopsis of when Peter had MJ to help him out during those trying times.

Except the times when he thought she was dead and the times when they seperated, but I digress...

Just because you have someone by your side doesn't automatically make a nightmarish situation better. I'm not entirely sure where you get your co-dependent outlook from. It can help somewhat, but it doesn't completely negate real emotional pain like what Peter has gone through.

I think that only works so far.. a real human being can only take so much in all honesty. It eventually becomes less influential and inspiring, and more "dragging through the mud" others.

id hardly consider mj's tenure a "short while", but yes, may's was very brief.

not really talking death's, more Torment. Ben's doesn't really count for the fact he wouldn't be spider-man without it.. it's his origin story. And As for Gwens, Well yes.. that's the turning point in his life, and in his books... from then on more and more torment and grief just compiled and compiled.

well, i suppose that's good for those who need it. But when i'm down in the dumps and depressed... without any hope.. The last thing i need is to watch sad movies, listen to sad depressing music, and to read about other's lives who have it worse (and while "it can't rain all the time" on peter's head... it's inevitable that his life will never ever be happy.)

As I stated, in MY opinion, Peter works better this way.

:yay:

glad your happy. But there's still many of us who are not.

What I meant was that while MJ's tenure was 20 years, it was only nice for a short while (in my opinion)... the first few years for example...

Sure... but that would be a total of what? 2 1/2 years? maybe 3? out of 20 in total? :wow:

Ok... I'll give you that... :yay:

it was great until the writers felt married people are boring... got rid of peter and mj's social lives, got rid of all her jobs, and kept mj and may locked in the apartment......

and no.. that's nothing but the writers fault.. May got a life in the reboot she could have easily had without it..., and MJ right before one more day, started socializing with other super-wives, both peter and mj were getting a social life back as well... but then WHAM! one more day.

the books right before that story hit were becoming quite good, and finally showing how non-boring the pairing were...

I agree that it's the writers' fault... but these were the stories we were presented with, so while I'm sure a great writer could have written great "MJ & Peter" stories, for the most part, we never got that... and I have to base my feelings on what I read as opposed to what I "could' have read...

Yes... I can agree with that... I guess it was a case of "too little too late for me'... and maybe editorial decided to showcase some good "MJ & Peter" stories because they knew it was going to come to an end...

Hard to say...

Just caught up on the latest Superior issues.

Hmm, I dunno, I think it after the OMD reset and memory wipe? I've lost track to be honest.

BND did all that.... she was becoming quite awesome in the progression department from Marvel Diva's and Heroes for Hire etc... To the point where she was easily on the road to becoming an Avenger even. But then she dumped puma, and i think even closed her detective business.. and boom back to stealing.

She's a freelance thief. People pay her to steal things so she goes where the money is. She got mixed up with Hydra in the recent DD/Spider-Man crossover.

She was a freelance thief in the 80's and maaaaybe the early 90's. She changed a lot after she dated Flash and was mostly legit afterwards. I certainly can't recall many stories between about 1996 and OMD in which she was still doing petty thefts.

Of course new writers who have no concept of her history or development, see her and think "oh this must be Marvel's version of Catwoman." :whatever:

A lot of characters like that have toed the line over the years at Marvel...

Black Cat, Gambit, Diamondback (including her friends Asp and Black Mamba from the Serpent Society) have all fought alongside of heroes and fallen back into their old habits over the years.

Not being a follower of Gambit and Diamondback, maybe their writers gave explanations for their regression (or maybe not). But I'm glad you're going to bat to make an excuse and win a no-prize for these writers and make their laziness or ignorance about the characters seem like some calculated back-to-basics approach.

:awesome::applaud

you win the internet for the day!

There was talk at NYCC about him getting a new series... :wow:

:yay:

Half the appeal of Spidey 2099 was the setting of 2099. Reading him in current-day New York would be interesting for about 6 issues, before I start to miss mile-high skyscrapers, fly-boys, Lyja and shockin' Gabriel.

If the story and art are good, then it will be fine. That's how I felt about Scarlet Spider. It was interesting and good to look at, so I kept coming back.

I will probably SHOCK you, but I prefer Miguel over Peter. He is my favourite Spiderman. I think he's an amazing character, both as Spidey and as Miguel (at least in his original series, since in most of his other apparitions, he's written as Peter Parker lite, which is a shame). And I would be really interested in reading more of him.

That said, his run was so great because the setting of 2099 was fresh and interesting, and because he had a very interesting supporting cast, with some deep family drama.
