They took themselves seriously but stuck them in pretty outlandish situations. It's not serious like Batman or Daredevil were supposed to be serious. And about Raphand Leo, it's just a bit of sibling rivalry. Sure they quarrel a lot, but they all love each other very much. They are a family after all, and Splinter taughter honor and discipline.
