The Toys thread

2/9/2009

Hello, everyone. I'd love to chat longer, but I can't. I've got the flu. Even so, I just had to show you guys what I just found online. Check it out:

Be ready to take spidey and his arch enemies home this February as McDonald’s, the world’s leading food service retailer, rolls out its latest in-store promotion for kids with the ‘Spiderman Happy Meal’.

McDonald's young guests will receive one of eight toys from "The Spectacular Spiderman – Animated Series" with the purchase of every Happy Meal. The eight action characters includes two Spiderman toys, out of which one toy can stick to any flat surfaces and another toy fires a plastic web missile.

The Spidey adversary
toys include Green Goblin who is attached to his battle glider, Dr. Octopus who spreads menace with his terrible tentacles and the Sandman who can thrust his sand mace with the push of a button. To add to the fun, there are also three black alter ego Spiderman toys that can swing, crawl and squirt venom. The interactive toys bring the Spiderman awesomeness and adventure to life for kids and collectors alike.

Commenting on the promotion, Arvind Singhal, Head Marketing, McDonald’s India, West & South said, “We are excited to give kids the opportunity to take home their favorite superhero and his vile opponents with this unique collection of Spiderman Happy Meal toys. I am sure Spiderman will bring alive the kid in all of us.”

These toys will be available from 1st February, 2009, all McDonald’s outlets across Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Kolhapur, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Nasik, Indore and Surat.

Here's a picture of one of the red-and-blue Spider-Man toys:

The news above was found here:
http://www.indiainfoline.com/news/innernews.asp?storyId=93014&lmn=1

The toys come out the week of February 27th, I think, because McDonald's says their current Happy Meal toys will be sold from February 2nd to the 26th.

Man, I can't wait to get these toys. I wish they had more villains, though, as opposed to the three mentioned above (Doctor Octopus, Sandman and Green Goblin, respectively). Still, it's better than no villains, right?

What do you guys think?

Thanks for reading,
Stuart Green

I can't wait for these! I'll be collecting them all and I'm even going to keep my Spidey happy meal box, etc.

Damn, too old for Happy Meals. Don't know if you can only get the toys.

I'd like to see pictures of the villains.

Yeah, I've bought toys without the meals a few times. Alone they're only about $2. Or you can just order any meal and ask for a happy meal toy with it.

Didn't know that. You would expect them to have you order the happy meal just to get more money.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I'm feeling better, but I'm still not over this flu 100% yet. Nevertheless, I got on to check my email and found a site that has images for all eight Happy Meal toys. Get this: there's a VENOM toy, too!

Unfortunately, these are nothing like the 1995 "Spider-Man" Happy Meal toys, and that's not exactly a good thing. None of the villains appear to be poseable at all. Not the arms, the waist, the head...nothing.

See the images here for yourself:

Water squirting Venom looks nice, as does the Doctor Octopus toy. But I wish you could move them! When the Hasbro Doc Ock has more articulation (and that's saying something), you KNOW that's a bad sign.

Web-shooter Spider-Man actually IS poseable, though not by much. Still, he looks great and he's one of my favorites, if not my favorite of the eight. The wall-crawling red-and-blue Spider-Man is also nice, but the red suction cups on his hands are WAAAAY too big. I wish they were smaller, like what KFC did for Spider-Man in the mid-1990s in their Marvel Superheroes series. Those suction cups look more like red shields than a wall-crawling feature to me.

The black costume Spider-Man toys, though, I think could've been better. I like the wall-crawling one, but the "string crawler" one doesn't look that good.

Green Goblin has a nice "pull back, watch it zoom" action feature, but the pose is a bit weird in my opinion. And Sandman just looks like he could fall over at any God given moment, considering how HUGE his right mace hand is.

I don't know. Maybe I'm too picky. Some I will pick up (especially the villains, as you rarely get toys of these guys), while others I will not (I mean YOU "string crawler" Spider-Man!).

What do you guys think?

Thanks for reading,
Stuart Green

These toys aren't as good as the Hasbro line but are alright. u cn't move them? WHAT! Blast. :wow:

Hey, doesn't Burger King get the rights to Marvel toys? They did Hulk, Iron Man & The Fantastic 4 as well as X-men Evolution.

Maybe this has to do with SSM coming to a Disney Channel.

A friend of mine sent this pic to me.

Looks like I'll be heading over to the grocery store soon for a box of these someday soon. I still have an unopened box of Spider-Man 2 Mac & Cheese, too.
