Incredibly entertaining arc as always, MB.

And now that I wouldn't be interfering with it...
THE NEW ULTIMATE DC RPG
Character Application
.Character you wish to portray: Selina Kyle /
Catwoman
.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Walking the Line
.Powers and physical attributes: Possessing no superhuman abilities, Selina is a highly-trained gymnast and athlete. She also possesses hand-to-hand combat and firearm training from her time with Gotham City Police Department.
.Origin and backstory (as you see it): Selina Kyle comes from a broken home. Her parents, Brian and Maria, split up when Selina was still very young, a fact that she still blames herself for to this day. She spent her childhood bouncing between time with her alcoholic father, who was cruel and abusive, and her heroin-addicted mother, who resorted to prostitution to feed her child
and her addiction. Shortly after Brian Kyle died of alcohol poisoning, child protective services intervened and put Selina into the foster care system. Some time later, Maria Kyle died of a heroin overdose.
Selina moved homes often during her time in foster care, largely due to her distrust and resentment towards men. She was rebellious and blindly rejected the idea of a father figure. A suitable fit was found for her in the form of Irena Dubrovna, an older Russian immigrant with a strong affinity for cats. This was about the time that Selina was entering high school, where she excelled at a number of athletic events - most prominently, gymnastics.
Selina made the decision to join the Gotham City Police Department as a result of her troubled childhood. She hoped to rid the city of the evils which plagued her in order to save other children from her fate. However, Selina found that life wasn't easy for a woman police officer. Her coworkers didn't respect her, and many of them sexually harassed her. Selina's first big assignment was in Vice, as an undercover prostitute, which didn't help her standing in the force. However, Selina did her work without complaint and was eventually offered a larger opportunity: infiltrating the Maroni crime family.
Selina posed as Holly Robinson, a well-to-do socialite from Brooklyn, in order to gain Sal Maroni's attention. Before long, Holly was Maroni's trophy girlfriend. The job required Selina to go to extreme lengths, but she was willing to do it in the name of bringing Maroni down. Things began to complicate when Sal's son, Umberto, attempted to rape Selina. In self-defense, Selina shot and killed Maroni's son. With the help of Detective Edward Nygma, a fellow cop investigating the Maroni family, Selina disposes of the body.
Things escalate out of control when Sal finds out that Selina isn't who she claims to be. After Selina is shot by one of Maroni's thugs, the Batman saves her and gets her to the Crime Doctor. Nygma helps fake Selina's death, and she assumes a new identity of Andrea Beaumont, transfer from the Metropolis Police Department. Her first assignment is to act as bodyguard to one Bruce Wayne.
Suspecting that Bruce Wayne might have something to hide - namely, ties to the mob - Selina uses her closeness to him as an opportunity to investigate. What she finds is a secret far greater than any mob affiliation. When Selina discovers the Batcave, she "borrows" some of Batman's gear to start a cause of her own: revenge on Sal Maroni.
Selina's revenge is spoiled when Maroni is killed by Nygma. Disappearing into the night, Selina realizes that Maroni's death means her own freedom. Abandoning the Andrea Beaumont identity, Selina becomes Selina Kyle once more. She takes on a second identity as well: that of Catwoman. And with her two identities in place, Selina begins to take back what she rightfully deserves from those who have more than they need...
.The burning question - Why this character?: Anne Hathaway. Okay, well only partially. Here's the thing: when I first picked up Selina Kyle, I had these plans for how to show her new origin into becoming Catwoman. But I spent so much time thinking of how to get her there that I forgot to come up with plans for when she got there. Well, seeing Anne Hathaway's
stunning performance got me thinking about the Cat again, and now I know how I want to approach her.
.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: As if that short novel of a backstory wasn't divergent enough, Selina still has a
lot of growing to do in her relatively new role as Catwoman. And whenever Bruce is on his feet again, we will see how that relationship plays out given that both characters come from a troubled past.
.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: Experience and familiarity.
.Provide a short sample post as your desired character, in three paragraphs or more:
When I wake the next morning, it's already half past noon. I suppose my body needed the rest after a
long night. The clinic patched me up, but I was released with a clean bill of health shortly thereafter. My throat still tastes like fresh-cut grass and blood, but my wounds will heal. It's better than what might have happened, had the night gone differently. As I stretch my sore body, Isis begins climbing on top of me - no doubt looking for her breakfast now that I'm awake.
Ari.
I jump out of bed, ignoring the discomfort in all my joints. I can't believe I forgot about Arizona. I was so battered and beaten when I got in last night that my only thoughts were of collapsing in bed. I pause briefly to examine myself in the bedroom mirror. A few scrapes, nothing major. No green skin, no ivy leaves sprouting from my pores or anything. I think I'm out of the woods there.
As I enter the hallway, I can hear the sound of the television. I wander towards the living room, Isis slinking between my legs, where I find Arizona seated on the couch, watching cartoons. In her hands, she holds a bowl of cereal, but her eyes are transfixed on the screen.
"Morning," I grumble.
"Morning," she replies softly, never moving her gaze.
I turn my attention to the kitchen. Arizona has left the box of cereal out on the table. As I'm closing it up, Isis rubs against my leg and meows.
"Alright, alright..." I move to the cabinet and retrieve a can of cat food. Removing the lid, I set the can down for her.
"Happy now?" I take her
purr as an agreement.
"Hey, Ari, do you want some toast or eggs or anything?"
"Nope," she responds with a mouth full of cereal.
I begin making a pot of coffee. If I'm going to face today, I'm going to need it.
