The Ultimate DC RPG - Season III: Sign-Up/OOC Thread

Wow, that was a waste of a minute of my life. Good to see things haven't changed. :woot:

My sincerest wish is that someone that still has ****ing dial-up stumbles upon this page. Good luck seeing those gifs, mother****er.

Quick question...did my take on Dr. Fate from Season 1 stick or did it get retconed away?
That they existed as the Order of Fate, a cabal consisting of a handful of wizards, who protected Earth from magical threats.

Well, it stuck, but I think MST's been using Kent Nelson's Dr. Fate as The Atom's boyfriend. MST hasn't gone into any specifics as to where his power originates and stuff, so many he could still be apart of the order. I know that Hector Hall hasn't been touched in the least since your leave.

First off I had no idea that there really was another Dr. Fate...had I know I would've used him.

Anyway this is my backstory on Kent Nelson as Dr. Fate:

I could'a sworn JB's Fate was pre-reboot, although I could be mistaken. No idea.

It was post, because he used Fate in a Fables arc. Fables weren't allowed in Pre-reboot.

Okay, I've been fairly inactive for the better part of the last month.

*waits for the inevitable "Just the last month?" jokes*

Alright, now that we've gotten that out of the way, we've got business to attend to. Yes, I've been gone, but that period is about to end and I'm now in a position where I can start working towards integrating myself back into the games. As it has always been, my first priority is this RPG, and one of my most prized responsibilities is maintaining it. So here we are.

This season has been running since early November of last year. That means we're currently in our eighth month, about to enter the ninth. That's something I wanted to avoid this time around, but it seems we couldn't. That's fine, and I shoulder some of the blame. But now's the time for us to really start figuring out when we can eventually bring things to a close, because I don't want this to reach a twelfth month and be the first season to drag so far along that it took a year to get done.

Where is everybody at as far as their current stuff is concerned? I've got a bit to go with Red Hood, and I'm close to ending an arc that ends in the beginning of a very important next step in his career. Infact, it's been the thing that I've been working towards since I picked him up. So I want at least a little bit of time with that before we move onto the next season, which I want to make an announcement about sometime this week.*

But barring a bit of playtime with that angle, I've no problem with ending in the next few weeks. So don't take that into account with your answer. If you're already ready to end now, or close to it, just say the word and I'll use it as a factor in determining when to end the season. This should be considered the wind-down period, or at least the very third act of the entire season, so please try and make sure you're not so heavily ingrained in stuff that it'll take at least a few more months. No matter where we're all at, we're not gonna have that kind of leeway. Things have gone on long enough.

So consult with your collaborators, work out arcs, begin the next phase of everything or continue what you were doing, and let's get the **** back to work! The time for slacking off is over. The time for action is now. Let's get this game rolling again!

:highfive:

*And when I say that, I mean it's gonna be something you're gonna want to pay attention to. Because it's gonna be a bit of a drastic direction that, while some RPGs have taken on in the past, will definitely affect storylines in minimal ways if you've already planned ahead.

To be honest, I don't have a set plan for a story after the conclusion of this China White arc, so Green Arrow could be done as soon as I finish that.

I have a few more Suicide Squad arcs I'd like to get through, two at the least. Same situation with Flash, except I need to resolve that whole him being in another RPG thing before I can get to them.

Oswald is just checking on investments, and Rhiannon is getting ready to set-up house with Kent...so I'm at a good place right now and I don't have any major arcs planned as of right now. Maybe a few things here and there...but say when this season is over...and I'll be ready.

Bane is waiting for action and purpose. Good to go for whenever.

Superman has some personal stuff to do (talk to Jimmy and Steel), and then he's going to want to catch up with pursuing the Legion of Doom, but I have no set plans for that and I'm open to working with others to come up with something cool. Just hit me up on MSN or Skype.

Dick Grayson and the Teen Titans are just about to set off a war within the HIVE.

Vandal Savage and the Legion of Doom are twiddling their thumbs waiting for everyone to get their solo stuff done so we can do a full-on battle between the Legion and the Justice League. Though if we wanna really get things rolling, that may very well change in the very near future.

Wonder Woman......honestly, I kinda ran out of steam with Diana a while ago. Sorry. I do plan on having her return in time for the end of the season, and showing everyone where the hell she went with Hermes.

So, what's the story on Scarecrow? I imagine he's been used by now?

Syn's Batgirl is in the middle of battling him right now, actually. I'm not sure if it's his first appearance as Scarecrow, but Jonathan Crane has been used since Season I as Jeremiah Arkham's second-in-command and as the man who eventually runs Arkham after Jeremiah's nervous breakdown.

THE NEW ULTIMATE DC RPG
Character Application

.Character you wish to portray: Reverend Oberon Sexton

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Villain

.Powers and physical attributes: None. Sexton is a skilled, passionate public speaker, whose sermons have captivated the people of Gotham for months.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it): Oberon Sexton was a successful author and philanthropist, until the day he was struck by tragedy. His wife and children were killed in a blazing fire which leveled a city block. Sexton himself suffered disfiguring burns to his face, forcing him to wear a mask. He also watched his wife die. Through this tragedy, Sexton found faith and founded the Saints of Gotham parish in the Narrows. Operating out of St. Abel's cathedral, Sexton now presides over a growing congregation of more than two thousand devout. His message is simple: vigilantes and metahumans are agents of Satan and must be eradicated.

.The burning question - Why this character?: This RPG is missing an all-important presence. One which Sexton will allow me to reintroduce.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: This Oberon Sexton is an evangelist, not a detective. He's also a pawn in a much larger plan which will come into play at the end of this season and the start of next season.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: As I said, Sexton is a means to an end. With what time is left in the season, it will be easy to set myself up well in only a few posts. That said, I still plan on doing something interesting with Sexton himself...

.Provide a short sample post as your desired character, in three paragraphs or more:

"Welcome back, Gothamites! I'm your host Jack Ryder, and this is Let It Ryde! The only show that shoots straight and never misses! Tonight, we have a very special guest on the show for you. You might've read one of his books, you might've seen him on TV, and if you've been around the Narrows, you've certainly heard of him! Reverend Oberon Sexton, everyone!"

"Thank you, Jack. Pleasure to be here."

"The pleasure is mine, reverend. Now, all religious views aside, what you've accomplished is nothing short of amazing. You've gone from preaching on a street corner in the Narrows to heading a congregation of two thousand strong!"

"It truly is amazing, but the Word has always had a magnetic attraction for the lost and weary. They are drawn to it, and to the truth it represents."

"Now, your 'word' can be a little... jarring to outsiders. Would you agree?"

"Jack, I don't need to tell you that we live in a time of great sin. Evil surrounds us on every side, and the people of Gotham have turned to false saviors. These demons have seduced many through trickery, but I see through their lies."

"And by 'demons,' you're referring to the vigilantes, such as Red Hood and the Batman?"

"Agents of Satan, Jack. And where is the Batman now? No doubt he has been dealt evil's reward! The forces of good cannot be contained forever. They shall always rise up to vanquish evil! The Batman is but the first imposter to fall! Only by ridding our city of these infestations can the people of Gotham bask in the Lord's grace!"

Incredibly entertaining arc as always, MB. :yay: And now that I wouldn't be interfering with it...

THE NEW ULTIMATE DC RPG
Character Application

.Character you wish to portray: Selina Kyle / Catwoman

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Walking the Line

.Powers and physical attributes: Possessing no superhuman abilities, Selina is a highly-trained gymnast and athlete. She also possesses hand-to-hand combat and firearm training from her time with Gotham City Police Department.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it): Selina Kyle comes from a broken home. Her parents, Brian and Maria, split up when Selina was still very young, a fact that she still blames herself for to this day. She spent her childhood bouncing between time with her alcoholic father, who was cruel and abusive, and her heroin-addicted mother, who resorted to prostitution to feed her child and her addiction. Shortly after Brian Kyle died of alcohol poisoning, child protective services intervened and put Selina into the foster care system. Some time later, Maria Kyle died of a heroin overdose.

Selina moved homes often during her time in foster care, largely due to her distrust and resentment towards men. She was rebellious and blindly rejected the idea of a father figure. A suitable fit was found for her in the form of Irena Dubrovna, an older Russian immigrant with a strong affinity for cats. This was about the time that Selina was entering high school, where she excelled at a number of athletic events - most prominently, gymnastics.

Selina made the decision to join the Gotham City Police Department as a result of her troubled childhood. She hoped to rid the city of the evils which plagued her in order to save other children from her fate. However, Selina found that life wasn't easy for a woman police officer. Her coworkers didn't respect her, and many of them sexually harassed her. Selina's first big assignment was in Vice, as an undercover prostitute, which didn't help her standing in the force. However, Selina did her work without complaint and was eventually offered a larger opportunity: infiltrating the Maroni crime family.

Selina posed as Holly Robinson, a well-to-do socialite from Brooklyn, in order to gain Sal Maroni's attention. Before long, Holly was Maroni's trophy girlfriend. The job required Selina to go to extreme lengths, but she was willing to do it in the name of bringing Maroni down. Things began to complicate when Sal's son, Umberto, attempted to rape Selina. In self-defense, Selina shot and killed Maroni's son. With the help of Detective Edward Nygma, a fellow cop investigating the Maroni family, Selina disposes of the body.

Things escalate out of control when Sal finds out that Selina isn't who she claims to be. After Selina is shot by one of Maroni's thugs, the Batman saves her and gets her to the Crime Doctor. Nygma helps fake Selina's death, and she assumes a new identity of Andrea Beaumont, transfer from the Metropolis Police Department. Her first assignment is to act as bodyguard to one Bruce Wayne.

Suspecting that Bruce Wayne might have something to hide - namely, ties to the mob - Selina uses her closeness to him as an opportunity to investigate. What she finds is a secret far greater than any mob affiliation. When Selina discovers the Batcave, she "borrows" some of Batman's gear to start a cause of her own: revenge on Sal Maroni.

Selina's revenge is spoiled when Maroni is killed by Nygma. Disappearing into the night, Selina realizes that Maroni's death means her own freedom. Abandoning the Andrea Beaumont identity, Selina becomes Selina Kyle once more. She takes on a second identity as well: that of Catwoman. And with her two identities in place, Selina begins to take back what she rightfully deserves from those who have more than they need...

.The burning question - Why this character?: Anne Hathaway. Okay, well only partially. Here's the thing: when I first picked up Selina Kyle, I had these plans for how to show her new origin into becoming Catwoman. But I spent so much time thinking of how to get her there that I forgot to come up with plans for when she got there. Well, seeing Anne Hathaway's stunning performance got me thinking about the Cat again, and now I know how I want to approach her.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: As if that short novel of a backstory wasn't divergent enough, Selina still has a lot of growing to do in her relatively new role as Catwoman. And whenever Bruce is on his feet again, we will see how that relationship plays out given that both characters come from a troubled past.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: Experience and familiarity.

.Provide a short sample post as your desired character, in three paragraphs or more:

When I wake the next morning, it's already half past noon. I suppose my body needed the rest after a long night. The clinic patched me up, but I was released with a clean bill of health shortly thereafter. My throat still tastes like fresh-cut grass and blood, but my wounds will heal. It's better than what might have happened, had the night gone differently. As I stretch my sore body, Isis begins climbing on top of me - no doubt looking for her breakfast now that I'm awake.

Ari.

I jump out of bed, ignoring the discomfort in all my joints. I can't believe I forgot about Arizona. I was so battered and beaten when I got in last night that my only thoughts were of collapsing in bed. I pause briefly to examine myself in the bedroom mirror. A few scrapes, nothing major. No green skin, no ivy leaves sprouting from my pores or anything. I think I'm out of the woods there.

As I enter the hallway, I can hear the sound of the television. I wander towards the living room, Isis slinking between my legs, where I find Arizona seated on the couch, watching cartoons. In her hands, she holds a bowl of cereal, but her eyes are transfixed on the screen. "Morning," I grumble.

"Morning," she replies softly, never moving her gaze.

I turn my attention to the kitchen. Arizona has left the box of cereal out on the table. As I'm closing it up, Isis rubs against my leg and meows. "Alright, alright..." I move to the cabinet and retrieve a can of cat food. Removing the lid, I set the can down for her. "Happy now?" I take her purr as an agreement. "Hey, Ari, do you want some toast or eggs or anything?"

"Nope," she responds with a mouth full of cereal.

I begin making a pot of coffee. If I'm going to face today, I'm going to need it.
