The dark figure sat isolated in his fortress, hidden outside every known universe. A part none of them, it was the perfect vantage point for its owner to watch all of them. A castle carved into an asteroid, it spun silently through nothingness. Inside the figure monitored each of the five remaining universes. One universe he watched had erupted into a civil war as the wave of blanketing white nothingness encroached on their Earth. Shortly before the universe collapsed into the white cloud, a living legend was assassinated and a secret invasion was begun only to be silenced quickly by the despairing blankness that took the place that the planet once had.He watched. For that is all he could do. He watched the universes swirl around him, just out of his reach. He could not interact with them, only observe. There were five in sight. Three on the verge of disaster. The timelines of those three too corrupted. Their universes on the verge of collapse. He turned his attention on the Earth that was least near destruction.
But it too had its problems. No one noticed when Wally West was erased from the universe. Why shouldthey? He was a snot nosed punk of a kid, rebelling against everything. If they had known he was gone, he would not be missed. No, more disturbing was the presence of the speedsters. They could be problematic to the universe. Barry Allen could ruin everything. The shadow watched in slow motion as Barry failed to save his love. That was not how the timeline was supposed to go. Barry Allen is the reason this universe will die.

"SOON, I WILL INTERVENE."
Yet another finally had found peace after years of threatened chillingly cold war had blanketed the planet. Peace at the cost of the deaths of millions, and at the cost of the conscience of several heroes of that world. A feat of mass homicide the likes of which the world had never seen, all orchestrated by their most loved hero. No matter, it had all been in vain, even the death of the one hero who had remained steadfastly opposed to the action was unimportant as that universe too was swallowed by the white.
The silent observer watched one more world was surrounded by that devastating white wave. This was a dark world, one cruelly violent. He watched a 'hero' shatter a man's spine with a spiked metal knuckle. He watched another 'hero' carry out work for the devil. This universe was in shambles. Whole groups of people would vanish at once from the timeline, never to be seen again. A team of young heroes had vanished to another universe, only to be engulfed earlier by that anti-matter ocean. As torn apart as this universe was, nobody noticed as it was eaten by the abyss.
Two universes remained, and Barry Allen was integral to the hopes of both for surviving.
