she's one of the handful of people they can get rid of and no one would notice.

Call it what you will, she's about as useful as Tara.

Yeah, the hoarseness in Negan's voice made that much funnier. And not really sure where all this hate from Negan is coming from when he's pretty much walked right out of the comic.

I don't understand it either. That's the way Kirkman wrote him in the comics, and his theatrical personality differentiates him from the business-like Governor.

I loved that line afterwards too "You people are making me lose my voice" that had to be an ad-lib from JDM.

His continued body-shaming of Olivia after she was killed was brilliantly cruel as well.

Talking **** about Tara?

I will shut that s*** down, NO EXCEPTIONS!

what? are you going to attack me about body shaming like the actress while her show constantly does it?

**** kid, I'm sorry... sometimes i forget you're just a kid.

So, I'm thinking about how they can go after Negan. I see them first enlisting the women on the woods. Sneak in, kidnap their leader and offer an ultimatum. Help us defeat Negan or, we tell Negan where to find you.

Lol damn problem solved!

lol damn that's ruthless.

I hope Sasha doesn't get killed off. I like her. Though it seemed like they didn't know what to do with her last season (that subplot with her and Abraham was the worst) and she's barely been in this season.

I like Sasha as well, but if she's the lead actress for Star Trek Discovery. Then I believe her character will be biting the dust soon. Probably sometime during 7b (possibly ep 7.14 b/c since Season 4 a character(s) is usually killed off in ep. 14) or maybe at the beginning of Season 8.

I don't think the writers will be able to get away with making her fate ambiguous like they've done with Heath (whose actor is also starring in his own show) b/c Sasha is part of the core group. Since Heath's been underdeveloped they believe viewers won't care or notice his absence. However, Heath's fate could be answered in 7b.

All I can think of to keep Sasha around is if she assists the Oceanside community b/c that colony wants to stay hidden from everyone. It'll be easier for Green's schedule b/c that's the colony that seems to get the least focus anyway. They could temporarily write her off like that. However, I honestly believe that Sasha's days are numbered.:csad:

I loathe finding out casting news which contradicts with any TWD cast members b/c it takes away from the story and suspense. Now I'll just be expecting her character to be killed off every time she shows up.

I don't understand it either. That's the way Kirkman wrote him in the comics, and his theatrical personality differentiates him from the business-like Governor.

Oooh! Oooh! Let me!

1. Negan is a dumb characte who doesn't translate to the screen. I've given Jeffrey Dean Morgan a lot of flak, but I'm not sure any actor can make "pee pee pants city" and "easy, peasy, lemon squeezy" not sound dumb. Like the Governor, Negan should probably have been toned down for the show. As it is now, he's like a villain thought up by a bunch of studio execs, taking the worst instincts from the 90's. "You like the Governor! Well buckle your seatbelt, 'cause Negan's in town! He's edgy! He's in your face!" He's like the Poochy of the Walking Dead. Don't be surprised if the next time we see him he's riding a skateboard down a hill, wearing sunglasses while bashing in a walker's head

2. A lot of people think Jeffrey Dean Morgan was miscast. Some because he's not particularly physically intimidating, others because they just find him to be annoying. For me, I think his performance is too one note and predictable, with little nuance. Now I know some of you like him, but I don't know how you could disagree with this assessment. I mean, you know he's going to whistle, and lean back, and emphasize every...other...word! You know he'll have that one moment where he's really serious and lowers his voice, and you think something might happen, and then he breaks into that s#it eating grin of his. I find it pretty hard to find him scary since he telegraphs everything, and I can anticipate what he's going to do next

3. Because he's so over the top, his acting stands out as being particularly jarring, since everyone else acting opposite him is giving much more restrained performances. It's like he walked in from a completely different show

4. Finally, so far, there hasn't been much to the character beyond the fact that he's bad, and in charge. Which I get is necessary at this point into the story. But I'm hoping once the war starts, we'll see a more serious Negan, one that will justify all the hype that surrounded him.

Negan is one of TWD's most popular characters in the comics, and has been anticipated by fans to be on this show ever since his inception in the comics. The Governor was toned down for this show. We didn't see him make out with his zombie daughter;

We didn't see him rape Michonne repeatedly. We didn't see him cut off Rick's hand etc. The TV show's Governor was still great, but make no mistake he was toned down from his comic book version. Negan on the other hand has been lifted from the comic book page to the screen in all his swaggering ruthless glory and he's awesome.

2. A lot of people think Jeffrey Dean Morgan was miscast.

Baloney! I've not seen one ounce of proof that there is any kind of consesus of this.

3. Because he's so over the top, his acting stands out as being particularly jarring, since everyone else acting opposite him is giving much more restrained performances. It's like he walked in from a completely different show

That's one of the great things about Negan. Unlike most TWD characters he has a huge ego. He is in love with himself. He treats everything like it's a party. He is a breath of fresh air seeing a villain who is clearly enjoying himself and the screwed up world humanity now lives in.

4. Finally, so far, there hasn't been much to the character beyond the fact that he's bad, and in charge. Which I get is necessary at this point into the story. But I'm hoping once the war starts, we'll see a more serious Negan, one that will justify all the hype that surrounded him.

You don't need a backstory to make a compelling villain. Characters like the Joker are proof of that. Or Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs.

I see the Negan debate is in full swing, I guess I fall in the middle, I think JDM has brought a lot to this role, I don't read the comics but what I see on screen is a theatrical, egomaniacal tyrant, who uses the bluster and bombast as a facade to what lies beneath, a grotesque monster of a man.

My issue is that this sort of character has a short shelf life, when you have a phsychopathic villain do the things he has then the pay-off must have a finality to it, batter up Maggie!

I don't think Art is alone though in feeling how he does, I've read a few negative articles about Negan's impact on the show. Personally I think the Negan/Saviours storyline is the best thing they've done in a while, it puts our group up against a threat that feels much more dominant than anything they've faced, which plays off the scene in season 6 where Rick and Daryl were so confident that they could take care of Negan and the Saviours, neither anticipating the scale of what they were up against.

My only issue is how much they've dragged the first half of the season out, I don't mind a slow burn but they've overdone it a tad on this occassion IMO but I'm really looking forward to the second half of the season and the fight back might make the oppressive first half seem more worthwhile in context.

I agree it shouldnt take 8 episodes to tell this slow as story, especially with the Tara episode actually existing... but to say Rick hasn't done anything is silly... there's not much for him to do really except for what negan wants him to do... its the same in the comics, rick is completely broken for a while until the communities unite (the finale)...

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but post-negan, jack s*** happens for a long time... theres even a time jump where nothing happened... so i am going to assume there will be a small small time jump, and a lot of filler once the all out war arc ends.

It's interesting that Rick being broken didn't seem to really be at the heart of why he wasn't fighting back, it felt more like he was gritting his teeth and restraining himself because he was trying to be a responsible leader and didn't want anyone else to get hurt, but in the last episode he realized the deal with Negan was worthless, he was just going to keep squeezing until there was nothing left of Alexandria.

On the second paragraph, given the reception and ratings dip due to this season's slow trek, I wouldn't be surprised if they moved a bit quicker to get The Whisperers into play.

Yeah, I think I said as much in my original post. I'm not saying they need to tone down Negan's violence, but his Andrew Dice Clay, Fonzie shtick doesn't work on a show like the Walking Dead, a show that has never been known for its sense of humour. The Governor in the comics was a more over the top, moustache twirling villain (I mean, he actually had a moustache), but the writers obviously saw this wouldn't be the right approach for the show, so they made him more of a politician. It's funny, but the only time I feel JDM comes close to making the character convincing is when he drops all of the quirks he's given Negan.

I never said their was a consensus. I just replied to a poster asking why the Negan "haters" didn't like the character. I know a lot of fans love him, and the performance. But some of us don't, and these are some of the reasons we don't.

I never said he needed a backstory. But I do believe he needs more layers than "hot diggedy dawg! I'm in charge now!". Having him smugly preening around gets a bit tiresome, after a while.

I hope Rick's learned from his disastrous campaign against the Saviors not to completely compromise morality in order to defeat a great foe. Besides, allies you have to force to be on your side aren't going to be responsible allies.

Art Vandalay, I disagree with most everything you say... But... You are spot on about Negan's physical presence... in the comics he seems to be a much bigger guy, muscular, etc... JDM just isn't muscular. His performance is spot on comic wise, but his look isn't quite there.

Jon Bernthal, he isn't a huge guy by any means, but he had a bad ass physical presence as Shane that Negan should have.

I also hate JDM's goofy ass lean he keeps doing... like on the porch last episode when Spencer visits him... I never pictured Negan leaning like a goon all the time the way he does.

But, I am thoroughly enjoying JDM as Negan... let's face it, nothing this season has been worth watching without Negan on screen.

I beg to differ...
