The Walking Dead The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 16 "A" Discussion Thread

Wow!!!! Really??? They ended the season like that??? The mid season finale was way better than the season finale. I mean it was a decent episode but definitely not a strong finale. .

It was a great episode. And was a hell of alot stronger than the Season 3 finale. The Mid-season finale was the payoff for that one.

The first half of season 4 was GREAT but after the excellent mid season finale, the show slowed down to a painful hult which ultimately brought the season down some. Still a good season overall just disappointing they couldn't finish the season as strong as it started.

For their sake, I'm glad they and Baby Judith are taking all the time in the world knowing what those cannibals are playing at

That was a pretty blah ending. Why are the mid season finales always better than the season finales with this show? I mean the episode started off great, but this is no where near the slaughter/craziness we were promised. Meh.

That depends on who you ask imo. The 2nd half featured some of my favorite episodes/moments of the series.

Carole and Tyreese are definitely going to be key to getting out of this mess.

Also Carol and Tyresse didn't make it to terminus.

That's my major question. I thought they met up with the rest of the group. If not, then it's up to them to save the day.

I can see a key point next year is going to be an episode ending with Rick or Carl going back and digging up that bag of guns to unleash holy hell on Terminus.

I thought this was an incredible set up for the next year.

Forgetting S2 Finale already?

The issue stems from the poor handling of the previous season. Because of the fact that they blew an entire season building up to a war and then said "nope...we're going to draw this out longer" means that the new show runner spent half of this season tying up what should have already happened. Then, we spent the back half of this season setting up what would be the new challenge. They are a half season behind. I'm guessing that the next season will put things back on track.

Well all i can say is this finale has me stoked for next season. It did its job.

Was anyone else surprised that nobody died? I guess that whole "A character who is still alive in the comic is going to die in the finale" rumor was bogus.

Well, nobody important died at least. The way Rick took out Joe was brutal.

Well there are two unanswered plot trends still out there. Tryresse and Carol still have yet to make it to Terminus, and what happened to Beth? Who was driving the car? If it was just her why did she leave Daryol? So I assume we will see in the fall....

In all the chaos of this episode, one thing is really bugging me.

Can anyone explain why the title is "A"?

So is this the show's version of "The Hunters" then? Definitely a bigger scale and feel behind it, but if it is, then I can't wait to see how it ends. :woot:

I always assumed that it was a continuation of the previous show title, "Us"...so UsA...not that that makes much sense.

But my second thought was that it's the episode where Rick becomes an Alpha male again...and as I typed that sentence the actor said that Rick was an alpha male.

But yeah...no real clue.

The giant A spray painted on the train car they were herded into was a slight clue...

I was wondering if maybe the other group had the same reaction after recognizing something. Some have said that Mary was wearing Beth's shirt and there were theories that Beth's kidnapping was related to Terminus. Maybe Maggie recognized it and that led to a similar standoff earlier on.

Didn't Beth change clothes after leaving the prison? I thought she put on a new outfit in the golf club place that was then immediately splattered with blood.

I have no idea if Mary was wearing the same shirt though.

The person responsible for naming the episodes is a parrot named Elvis, who randomly pulls scrabble letters from a pile. But seriously, whoever names the episodes does a terrible job. "Inmates"? "The Suicide King"? Damn near all the titles from the last two seasons have no meaning to the episode.

Overall, i'm disappointed in this finale and this season in general. This finale was better than last season but the change of showrunners is glaringly obvious. Someone earlier mentioned how half this season was spent cleaning up the mess that was last season's second half, which i agree with. The other plot-line was the sickness, which really has no weight anymore since the prison fell soon after. The various character sub-plots were good, aside from the cliche Maggie-Glenn long lost lovers but i'm not sure any of them made me care for the characters more or less. A full re-watch may change that opinion. I give this season a B- and the finale a C+
