The Walking Dead The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 16 "A" Discussion Thread

i'll take season 2 over season 4. season 2 may have been slow paced and drawn out, but there were lots of good character moments and the story was comprehensible. and like you said, they really screwed up the governor story. which, like the comics, should of been the story at it's best. that is unforgivable. i felt season 4 has been a mess, a total mish-mash with no focus and inferior writing.

there is a world of difference between what cursing was to the governor, or any other person...and what cursing is to Negan. it's one of his most defining traits as a character...that, and lucille. oh, lucille.
S2 and S3 made some big mistakes for me. S2 for drawing a story that could have been done in half a season out so long. S3 for horribly mishandling the Governor and for a season finale more anticlimactic than a groom with erectile dysfunction on his honeymoon.

S4 hasn't been great, but the plot threads came together at the end, the at least gave the Governor a moment that captured a very small bit of his comic counterpart brutality, and the 2nd half of S4 for hitting some of the nice moments from the comics. Flowers for the crazy twin, this episode for when Rick goes nuts on the people trying to rape Carl, and the cannibals.

While S3 mishandled the governor and subsequently muddled a character that, in the comics embodied the entire theme of the series (in a world of monsters, the true monsters are the men who survive) S4 has at least hit on some of the nicer short little stories that dealt with all the different ways this world twists people (sociopathic and psychopathic children, cannibals). Because of that alone I put S4 above the past two seasons.

Yeah I know his cursing is probably his most famous trait, but that's to the comic fans. The general audience would be none the wiser. Just like with a lot of changes they did.

For example the most famous thing about Dale in the comics was his romantic relationship with Andrea, but that didn't exist in the show, and Dale was still great.

I don't think Negan needs a constant potty mouth to work.

yeah they can do a character named Negan who's light on the cursing....but taking the word "f**k" away from Negan's vocabulary is like taking away Michonne's sword!

This was a great finale. I loved the flashbacks with Herschel at the prison.

:awesome: For that awesome comic moment.

For the most part I enjoyed this season finale, we finally got the Ricktatorship back and I wonder if this is AMC's version of the Alexandria safezone or is it the cannibal's home. (I hope it's the latter).

and thats fair enough, dude. i dont disagree with most of that. heres for hoping season 5 is as good as this last episode.

Yeah, same. I still like the show, and I'll always be grateful because it introduced me to the comics, but lately I've been very annoyed by the fact that it doesn't take the risks the comic does. If S5 has more eps like the mid season finale, Flowers, and this finale, I'll be happy.

I was aroused. :o:up:

Doing something differently =/= screwing it up.

The confrontation with Rick's group and the "Claimers" aka Joe's group was very intense. I honestly didn't know how Rick was going to get out of that one. What Rick did to overcome Joe was probably the wildest thing I've seen him do on this show. And Rick's done some shocking things on this show. Then the chase through Terminus was another chilling moment. Seeing what looked like human bones laying on the pavement as Rick and co. were being chased and shot at. As well as people moaning for help in one of those cargo things (can't recall what it's called) was eerie. And that was creepy seeing those two from Terminus wearing Maggie's poncho and Glenn's swat armor. Overall excellent finale that covered a lot in an hour, imo. I enjoyed the majority of this season. I think this season will be appreciated more if looked at as a whole. Gimple was setting up a lot of situations/conflicts for certain characters during the first half that would get resolved or explored upon in the second half. The flashbacks of Hershel nicely bookends the farmer Rick stuff that opened this season. Season 4 did a pretty good job examining the theme of characters being able to change who they are or were, imo.

Yeah that was. The whole hour was great. Weird seeing Andrew Lincoln laugh and be giddy. He's hilarious.

And goddamn that finale was great. Season four has been the best season yet. Season three almost lost me. I am beyond glad I stuck around because next season seems nutso!

Rick was so brutal. My only wish is that they just used the F-bomb. Just do it. They could have muted it like they did on Breaking Bad. C'mon.

Gimple said something about the FCC, but I've heard multiple times that cable isn't governed by them and technically, they're allowed to do whatever they want, it's just they have to worry about sponsors.

I think this was the most consistently good season since the first. I really enjoyed the character exploration in the second half and I'm more excited for next season than I was when season 3 ended. Gimple has the show in good hands.

Eh... after the first half of the season, I might have been prepared to agree. This half was ridiculously hit or miss. I loved the finale and Look At The Flowers, but that ****ing Daryl/Beth episode.... ugh.

The show still has its issues and things that don't make sense but now I feel like I have a better grasp on a lot of the characters and consequently care more about if they live or die. In that way I'd call this season a success and a necessary step in the right direction for the whole show.

The place with all the candles had people's names and sometimes age written on the floor as well as what looked to be a personal item of theirs. "Never Again Never Trust We First, Always" were on the walls.

What looked to be human bones were on the floor..

And to me it seemed like they were shooting them and missing, on purpose.

Lastly, the As on every door.

That's pretty much all the clues of Terminus that we have.

Pretty sure its just a type of cell block where they keep the meat.

The "A" means grade A beef. Theyre all lean.

And yea Rick saying "Screwing" was so eye-roll inducing. I hate when tv shows use that word. No one says that in real life. (Except carpenters) I would have much prefered a muted "****ing" and then just wait for the uncensored bluray.
What? But all of the rooms they passed had that and there's not much to back that theory up..
Unless there's something I'm not getting.

It seemed that way because that's exactly what they were doing. They even mentioned it.

Yeah, people's aim on the show varies wildly and hilariously but that was so bad it seemed like it was on purpose. Like they weren't actually trying to kill them and instead were herding them to the "A" train car.

No one says "screwing"? Did I miss the part where everyone in the world started living in a The Wolf of Wall Street? :o

I haven't read the comics, so are these cannibals in the comics or did they add that to the show to go all out?

:funny:

You need to get out more. I still hear people saying "screwing someone over". Yeah, some people use the F word instead but to say "No one says that in real life"...riiiight.

Haven't read the comics either. What's this "safezone" I hear about?

I can't recall any names from tonight's episode but they look very close to the cannibals in the comics...only without a huge ass place to live in.

Alexandria Safe-Zone is the next big stop after the prison/Woodbury in the comics. There they meet Douglas Monroe, a senator and they pretty much, without giving anything away, stay there for a while.

I actually kind of hope they avoid the Safe Zone stuff for the forseeable future.
