i would love a part where batman thinks he's bested the joker...he's got him knocked on the ground, defeated.... then joker starts giggling and flings a knife right into batman's chest piece.

Not quite. He dies in the original version of Batman #1, but the last few panels were redone to show him alive, and in jail at the end.
EDIT: The power of recton. Sounds painful.

Yeah I am aware... but to make the point stronger obviously I choose to cite before the creative changes were recognized and someone realized the villian had potential.

It just seems with how much is being taken from Batman # 1, it is likely Joker may go down.. maybe not killed... by his own knife.
