The "Why So Serious? Gotham City Noir" RPG: Sign-Up/OOC Thread

STRUCTURE OF THE G.C.P.D., MAJOR CRIMES UNIT:

The Major Crimes Unit is a newly instated off-shoot of the G.C.P.D.'s homicide department. It was created when the police was forced to acknowledge a new trend amongst criminals; the increase of even more dangerous and unorthodox methods. In order to sufficiently protect the citizens of Gotham, the Major Crimes Unit deals with these and other sensitive cases.

Although this division has had contacts with vigilantes in the past, they do not condone their actions. The "Bat-Signal" on the rooftop of the department building, created at the behest of Lt. James Gordon, is used to facilitate a better relationship between the police and those vigilantes in an attempt to dissuade them from interfering with G.C.P.D. matters.

OOC: All Detectives are required to have partners. For Gordon and Bullock I went with the two most logical choices, also based on Year One.

By the by, does Blüdhaven exist? And would we still consider Flass Gordon's partner? By that notion, would Gordon stick to homicide or end up with MCU?

Woah, Harlekin, great job on fleshing this whole operation out a lot more.

Also, yeah, Heath Ledger has pretty much cemented the fact that he is now The Joker.

Please provide a small sample post, in the format you plan to portray this identity, with three paragraphs at minimum:
The first blow sent Rachel Dawes careening down the metallic fire escape. Her slim, curvy frame tumbled across the stairs, each one wedging firmly into her back; when she finally slammed against the rail, her unwilling descent sharply halted, she released a whimper and probed her swelling cheek with a shivering digit. The men - three in number, each tall and wide, filled out by muscle - followed her slowly, their footsteps ringing menacingly against the metal bars. Rachel swallowed hard and scrabbled within her handbag, desperately attempting to locate the item that James Gordon had pressed upon her. She remembered his solemn words, as he had instructed her in the pistol's use and told her that she was now a target for the less-than law-abiding of Gotham City. She hadn't truly heeded his words until this moment...until her usual nightly routine had been twisted into a desperate escape from a trio of enforcers. Her fingers curled around the firearm and she whipped it free of its restraints, its barrel locked firmly onto the first of the men.

"We got ourselves a feisty one, boys!" the foremost of them called back to his companions. "Takes a broad with guts to pull a gun on a representative of Lew Moxon."

Rachel gulped, felt it catch in her throat as fear threatened to claim her. She had been specifically targeted by Lew Moxon, one of the most powerful men in the city; she recalled a case that she had passed on to her colleague Adrian Chase that afternoon, regarding an illegal shipment of Moxon's. "It's out of my hands! I'm not the courts, I can't drop a case at this point!"

"We're not asking you to drop it. We're just warning you: never, ever mess with the Moxon clan." He moved ever closer, his lackeys remaining motionless behind him. "You're not gonna shoot me now, are ya? After all, you hate guns. You wouldn't pull that trigger and be responsible for my death..." He reached out and carefully drove the gun downwards, feeling Rachel quiver as his skin brushed against hers. "Good girl. Now, let's talk, shall we?"

Blüdhaven exists, Flass is still Gordon's partner (for now), and Gordon's on MCU. I figured it'd be better if he was, given his close ties to Batman, and the rise of the 'freaks'.

And you're approved, Apprentice.

Coo'. I've edited the post to reflect Flass being Gordon's partner.

Nice! Although, the majority of it was lifted from the first pages of Gotham Central

No it wasn't. The line-up was collected from the wiki page and a Gotham Central roll call site. Three or four names I got from digging into Gotham PD history. I wrote the intro myself. Putting that collection of info here is as about as much for me as it is for you guys.

Do the trades have a roll call though? The original issues sadly don't.

I also kind of take offence to the term "lifted". I compiled that list myself, there's not another one like it. I don't like being thought of as a thief.

Yeah, the trades show each character, divided up by their shifts, and who each character has as a partner.

Whatever, thief! :cmad:

By the way, another riddle will be in my next post, anyone(character) can try to figure it out, then go from there. It adds a nice dynamic of the player having to work out the riddle for the character etc, should be very interesting yeah?

Indeed, I like what you're doing with Nygma

Wha? That's awesome. Think you could scan that?

That would've saved me some trouble.

"Gotham City Noir" RPG Application

Screenname: Lord Doom

Gothamite you would like to portray: Richard "Dick" Grayson

Class of society: (Choose one) Guardian

Resume: (Brief character biography)
Dick Grayson is a member of the Flying Graysons, a circus trapeze act.
The Grayson's are residents of Gotham City, but left to join the circus as they toured the country. Now the circus is preparing to perform in Gotham, and Dick and his family have returned to their hometown to practice up. At night, Dick enjoys leaping from the rooftops of Gotham just to feel the incredible sensation of freedom it gives him. At times, he even puts himself in danger by helping the innocent in need during his nightly romps.
Factoids of interest: (Special attributes - IE: Weapons, attire... anything needed to be known) Dick has is an amazing acrobat and trains his body regularly. He also practices martial arts by watching Bruce Lee films.

Known associates: (NPC's needed to be attached to your character)
John Fredrick Grayson and Mary Lloyd Grayson (parents)
Three integral reasons behind choosing the character: 1. 2. 3.
1. I like him as a character.
2. I've got some neat ideas for him
3. I just plain felt like playing as him.
Please provide a brief explaination behind your character's motivations (ex: What does he/she believe in? How does he/she connect with Gotham City? What grinds your character's gears?):
Dick has a strong belief in defending those who cannot defend themselves. He's still a kid, so his sense of right and wrong are still a bit shaky, but he knows a criminal when he sees one. He hates feeling restricted and loves freedom.
File Headshot: (A picture if your character, if applicable)

Please provide a small sample post, in the format you plan to portray this identity, with three paragraphs at minimum:

Dick felt the brisk night breeze against his face as he leaped off another rooftop. This was great exercise, but his mother would be having a fit if she knew what he was doing. Dick leaped off the edge of the roof, grabbed a nearby fire-escape, and swung off of it. He did a triple back-flip and landed perfectly on his feet.

"Ta-daa!" he shouted at no one in particular. Then he bowed to an invisible audience amd began blowing kisses.

"Thanks folk, I'll be here all week."

Dick spotted a flag-pole and smirked. He got a good running start and went for it. Effortlessly, Dick leaped off the rooftop, grabbed the pole, and began swinging.

"And the crowd goes WILD!!"

Suddenly, the pole lurched downward.

"Uh-oh..."

The pole snapped out of its place and Dick plummeted to the alley below.

"Aw SHCIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!"

Dick managed to grab onto a window ledge and saved himself. He let out a gasp of relief.

"Close one."

Then Dick felt the pain in his shoulder.

"Ouch! Must've dislodged something... Man, mom's gonna KILL me!"

Dick brought himself up to his feet, brushed himself off, and climbed down the building in pain. He then walked down the streets and attempted to hail a taxi. but none seemed to be availible. That's when Dick noticed the sidnal, the giant bat the pierced the night sky. It was something Dick had never seen before.

"Awesome..." he gasped.

I just now noticed this....

Anyway, you're not approved. I said it once already in this thread that I want Batman to be by himself. A teenage boy running around in lime green short shorts doesn't fit. Sorry.

I will probably have an APP up by no later than Monday night....I think it is time for the new Owner of the Iceberg Lounge (who also happens to be an arms dealer, knows how to fence stolen property, and has a market on information for the right price) to make his presence in Gotham known.

Sweet. I need someone to help me move forward with that Pengiun case.

Could it be?...................

Arms dealer = Penguin.

Besides, I doubt someone could make Fries fit well into a BB/TDK-style universe. Although, Byrd might take a shot someday - who knows?

Oh, and if The Batman needed another reason to come gunning for The Joker, I just gave it to him. And my actions should reverberate quite nicely throughout you do-gooders - especially Gotham's finest!

Oh, and I'll also be making a Jokermobile manip to edit into my last post. :hoboj:

Wow....have you ever watched or read anything Batman related....ever?
Not really. I only really know the basic stuff, and what I know from the Batman movies, Justice League series, and what I read in wikipedia. Some of his villains though I know a little more about.
