CD Projeckt Red The Witcher 3

Does anyone know if you can use New Game+ on a second play through? Like say, you beat the game, use New Game+ to start another, beat that game, can you then you New Game+ on that second playthrough?
Wonder about that too...

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s first expansion, “Hearts of Stone,” will launch across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 13, developer CD Projekt RED announced.

The expansion will be available in both digital and limited physical editions at select retailers worldwide. The physical edition will cost $19.99 / 19.99€ and contains a download code for the expansion, two physical decks of The Witcher card game Gwent, and a detailed Gwent rule manual. Owners of the digital version will also be able to purchase the Gwent cards separately via a special website.

“Hearts of Stone” promises over 10 hours of gameplay, including “new characters, powerful monsters, unique romance, and a brand new storyline shaped by gamer choices.” It also introduces a new system of Runewords that “significantly affects gameplay.” Each Runeword will impact a different aspect of in-game mechanics and will allow the players to experiment with various strategies and tactics.
Here’s the official outline:
Step again into the shoes of Geralt of Rivia, a professional monster slayer, this time hired to defeat a ruthless bandit captain, Olgierd von Everec, a man who possesses the power of immortality. The expansion lets you choose your own way through an adventure that includes recruiting a crew of break-in artists, spending a night partying with a ghost and outsmarting the most bizarre creatures Geralt has ever faced.

Damn, cant believe the first expansion is nearly upon us, seems so soon. Not sure when I will find time for this in amongst the crowd of stuff on the way but will have to make time for it.

Finished two books now at least so still loving the Witcher world.

Looks like Geralt will finally get some sweet Shani loving again.

And I guess I'll have to wait till next Spring for Iorveth... (

Finished the main story campaign, and it was pretty amazing. Once I started getting the better Witcher school armors, things really started to open up. Getting the full crew for the Battle of Kaer Morhen was epic.

I like Triss, but I decided to go with Yennefer for my first run because I didn't want to get the rejection quest. Yennefer just seemed to be the canonical way to go. Yenn's a bit of a cool beauty and a bit of sarcastic know-it-all, but deep down she loves Geralt and Ciri. Plus, underneath that cold exterior is obviously a kinky tigress in the bedroom. AND on top of that, she forgives you for sleeping with her best friend.

This game really feels like a response to everything Mass Effect 3 got wrong. BioWare could learn from The Witcher 3.

The Witcher 3 : Hearts of Stone Adds More Everything to the Witcher 3

Posted Sep 28, 2015

Hearts of Stone is the first of several planned expansions to this year's phenomenal RPG, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. We reached out to CDProjektRed with some questions about what we can expect from the add-on, and we were not disappointed with the answers.
Read more of Bill Murphy's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Hearts of Stone Adds More Everything to the Witcher 3.
MMORPG: Can you give us a brief synopsis of the story for Hearts of Stone? Where does it see things pick up?
Jakub Szamalek, Senior Writer: Of course, I can't tell you too much, lest I spoil the story, so please excuse if I sound a bit vague! Here we go... Unexpectedly, Geralt ends up in a really tight spot. He is saved by no other than Gaunter o'Dim, the mysterious traveller he had encountered in White Orchard. He does not offer his help out of kindness, however, he demands something in return. Thus begins an epic adventure, which will see the player battling an immortal man, spending a night partying with a ghost and outsmarting the most bizarre creatures Geralt has ever faced.

MMORPG: Who is the Man of Glass? I know we don't want to spoil anything for players, but a few hints?
Jakub Szamalek, Senior Writer: Again, I can't go into too much detail... Let me just say that there's more than meets the eye to him. At first, he seems to be a regular guy, simple travelling merchant -- but in truth he's anything but. He might initially strike you as helpful, maybe even warm-hearted. But in time you'll get to know his darker side. So, be wary. And if you ever want to ask him for something -- make sure you phrase your request very clearly.
MMORPG: You mentioned that Hearts of Stone is a standalone story from the main events of Witcher 3. So you can play this even if you haven't finished the main campaign?
Jakub Szamalek, Senior Writer: Yes, but you might find yourself under-levelled. Even though the Hearts of Stone expansion is a stand-alone adventure, it is aimed at players who already feel comfortable in Geralt's skin and know all witchers' tricks. However, if you haven't progressed far in the main story of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt or lost your saves and are impatient to dive into the Hearts of Stone, you'll be able to start the expansion right away, with a predetermined character.
MMORPG: How is that handled within the game? Do you just pick to play Hearts of Stone from the main menu, or...?
Alexandre Boiret, Junior Quest Designer: You can trigger Hearts of Stone while adventuring in the world of The Witcher 3, or alternatively you can simply play it as a standalone adventure by picking Hearts of Stone from the main menu if it’s what you’d rather do. The experience while be the same apart from the fact than in stand-alone mode, you’ll start automatically with a character meeting the recommended level.

MMORPG: Will there be new hunts to go along with the main narrative? Those offered some of the most memorable fights in W3 for me.
Alexandre Boiret, Junior Quest Designer: You’re a witcher and you’re going to have to do witcher’s work, yes. This will indeed involve tracking new monsters and preparing yourself adequately for epic battles. If you thought you’d seen it all in The Witcher 3, well, think again… ;-)
MMORPG: One thing that got people all hot and bothered was the physical edition of the expansion including a real life Gwent deck of cards. Is this a sign that you'll be actually producing gwent as a card game?
Damien Monnier, Senior Gameplay Designer: We basically did it for the fans and people who were unable to grab a copy of the original decks in the Xbox One collector’s edition. This time however we’ve produced the Monster faction and Scoia’tael faction (my favourite!). Both have neutral and new cards (which you can also find in Hearts of Stone) as well as a counter to help people keep track of the points on the table. It all comes in a really nice box so you can carry both decks around and all your pieces are safe.
MMORPG: Will there be any new music recorded for the expansion? Can players download the songs?
Marcin Przybylowicz, Music Director: Of course. Hearts of Stone has it’s own story to tell, so it was obvious it will need its own soundtrack. There’s a new theme coming for one of the expansion’s key characters. You can also expect more of what you’re already familiar with after playing the base game. And as for future downloads of the expansion’s soundtrack - hard to tell right now.

MMORPG:
Is there a level requirement for the expansion then, if you don't have to finish the main game first?

Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, Game Director:
It’s not a requirement per se, i.e. the game will not kick you out saying that you don’t have the required revel, however, it will be extremely difficult below a certain level. If your Geralt is somewhere around level 30, you’re in the green. We’re also introducing a special Hearts of Stone New Game mode for gamers who just bought both the game along with the expansion, and want to start by playing the expansion first. In this mode, players will be given a level 30 Geralt with a lot of unallocated skill points so they can tailor him to their liking. I think we have all bases covered.

MMORPG: Will there be any new features or changes to the base game along with the expansion's story and quest content?
Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, Game Director: Hearts of Stone introduces a new Runeword mechanic. Runewords are powerful enchantments players can craft from glyphs. Each runeword can significantly affect gameplay by increasing protection against certain types of attacks, alternating the range of witcher Signs, and many more. I’m really curious what monster slaying character builds gamers will come up with once they get their hands on this.
MMORPG: How about crafting recipes and gear for Geralt? We want more!
Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, Game Director: We’ve prepared some new and cool items for Geralt to craft, too! We obviously won’t have as much content as in the base game, but players can expect some cool armors and swords, and some witcher-dedicated stuff -- yeah, I’m thinking a new set.

Is the expansion standalone?
From what the article I put up tonight says you can play it stand alone but you have to be at level 30
I'll high lite the details in red there cause they did some special for players that only do that expansion with out doing the rest of the game prior.

When I say standalone, I mean can you buy it separately from Witcher 3 and still play it. What you highlighted makes it sounds like you can't, and after doing some searching it looks like you can't. I was thinking of buying it for $20 as a sampler to see if I liked it enough to buy the base game, but looks like it's not.

Can you buy some DLCs for games and play them without the base game? I didn't know that was even possible. Would be nice to be able to sample games like that.

Usually it's sold as a standalone product when it happens, like Wolfenstein The Old Blood was. With this getting its own physical release, I thought it was like that maybe.

Oh wow I totally didn't know that. Guess it was just me making a huge assumption this whole time lol. I've bought DLCs for games that I hadn't bought yet just because they were on sale and never tried them as I thought they wouldn't work till I had the base game.

Got back to playing Witcher 3. How much more enjoyable is this game after The Phantom Pain? OMG...

Yea this game is still easily the GOTY. Fallout is the only title left that could possibly take that crown. And for the record, I don't think it will. Witcher 3 is just in a class by itself.

yes cause I'm talking the latter part of what the game director said and yes I'm indeed aware that you are asking if you can buy the expasion alone which is what standalone means. you want the price also with thatas well. so allthat was stated that you can play the expansio n with outthe base gam e that is indeed doable as Irequoteing below

Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, Game Director:

sorry for answer this so late.
You all want a yes you can play the expansion with out buying the base game at the same time and what the price is .

I do understand I just got back so far there's still nothing. when it come t saying buying but I'll keep my eye's open to see if and when they say so .

I'm sure they 'll say so details wise . They do have to make thing's more clear at least in the "you can buy them separately part."

they only answered that you can indeed play the expansion with out the base game. So far sadly.

as I said I'm sure they will answer that.

I am pretty sure you need the base game. It is an expansion and the first game is based in No Man Land's and Oxenfurt. Places in the main game.

In that part you highlighted it says "bought both the game along with the expansion, and want to start the expansion first." They're saying that if you bought both together you have the option to go right into the expansion content if you want.

Yeah. We had plenty of open-world games lately, but none of them had storytelling level of Witcher 3. Fallout 4 will have to offer something truly special to take the crown.

Because its better than Phantom Pain with much better writing. This game let me choose the option to say,

"Then we'll be waiting for them with swords in hand."

Finally got around to getting this game and all I can say is WOW. I'm only three hours in and completely hooked. It's giving me the the same kind of immersion as I felt the first time I played Skyrim.
