The "World of Heroes" DC RPG Season III

"Awesome" I state, turning to the traitor. "We get cleanup"

I look at the group i've surrounded myself with. We're so boned.

"How are they grouping?" I ask Imra. "Single units, or are they flanking?"

I can tell the group are somewhat surprised by the change in how I act. I love it when i get to see how people react to me in Lantern mode.

"They're all over. Right now they're swimming across the harbor."

She sent Kant a message.
***Kent! The Blackgate prison has been opened, prisoners are swimming towards Gotham City. You would be of great help if you could come. If not we can keep it under control.***
She wondered why she'd contacted him. It's not like they really needed him she glanced at the two men with rings and then at Garth.

"So it appears," I say, crossing my arms over my chest.

"I suggest that we find out directly before any time is wasted," I say, rising into the air.

"Unless, of course, you want to keep talking..." I smile inwardly. That should get a rise out of Gardner.

"Can't help it if I'm the better tactition Traitor," I reply calmly. No rise out of me Sinestro. Not when there are heads to crack.

I turn back to the group.

"Ok, we need to gather them," I bark. "Is there anywhere that they haven't taken yet?"

I love this. This is why I took the ring. Just another chance to show that i'm the best there is.

"If there's any where left, it'd be great if you could get that Superkid back here," My ring pings. It's finnished it's scan. I'll check the results after we get done here in Gotham. "We need to make a line. A base."

I raise myself into the air. "And can you losers try not to do anything extremely wuss-like and die? Can you all manage that?"

They probably can't.

"Thanks"
But thats why I'm here. To save the day.

I ingore Gardner's comment as well as he ignored mine. He is quite truly full of himself. Of course, most of these Earth heroes are.

We begin are trek toward the prison. I thought it was...weird flying alongside Jordan. But this, flying with Gardner, is just...wrong.

Blackgate Prison was the home of thugs, rapists and killers. Before the arrival of The Unity, the citizens of Gotham had felt that they would be safe so long as people like the ones found here (and, even moreso, in Arkham) remained behind bars.

Well, the inmates weren't behind bars anymore.

Almost as soon as the cage doors opened, a wave of men in orange jumpsuits dived out from the cells. Any guards out on patrol where quickly engulfed in the stampede. The inmates had taken over the prison. They were in control...

Then, a gas began to circulate around the prison. Then, The Joker's voice boomed over the intercom.

"HA HA! Hello, my fellow criminals! I, The Joker, have set you free. And in return, all I ask is that you go forth to spread chaos! My good friend Scarecrow has filtered a special variation of his fear gas through the prison. As I understand, it makes you fearless. You will no longer fear the police, Batman, or even your own conscience! Kill whoever you see on the streets of Gotham, destroy whatever you find. Chaos, that's what we want, CHAOS! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

And then, the army of escaped convicts burst out of Blackgate Prison. Unafraid of drowning or heights, they simply dived into the water and began swimming for the Gotham mainland.

The Joker turned to Scarecrow.

"Let's see how The Unity likes an army of fearless killers loose on the streets..."

I could hear the Joker’s voice over the intercom as I pumped the last of my anti-fear toxin into the prisons air ducts. The plan was working perfectly. Soon these escaped inmates would provide enough of a distraction to the Unity and to the heroes that the others and myself will be able to go about our business unopposed. As I made my way to met up with the Joker, I couldn’t help but smile a little thinking of all the fun I was going to have tormenting my fellow rogues once I was done using them. But there would be plenty of time for that later. I turned a corner and saw that horrid grin the Joker calls a face.

“Shall we make our exit?”

The Red X reached to the massive steel vault door, and razed his arm and placed his hand on the centre of the door; suddenly a red glow appeared from around the palm of his hand. The sound of countless locks releasing was heard. The last bolt unlocked, and the enormous vault door opened outwards steadily.

20 well armed guards stood on the other side of the door. Each held large riffles pointed at X. The tall well built guard in the centre of the troops stepped forward; he held his riffle, to the height of his eye, so he would only need one shot “Put your hands above you head!” He ordered.

X razed his hands to head height. “I said above your head!” Shouted the guard angrily. X swiftly crossed his arms in front of him self, and the red crosses on the back of his hands

Expanded.

They then instantly began to spin rapidly. “Play time” said X, he jumped from the vaults door way and attacked the unexpectedly guards. X’s, fought against the vast numbers, and took down the guards slashing though their riffles, and fighting hand to hand with anyone, foolish enough to get close. He cut though the final guards riffle in two, and punched him in the face after. He looked down at the sea of bodies with a look of achievement “I’ve done this so many times,” X’s hand blades retracted back into the glove “Its beginning to lose the thrill” he dusted his hands off and looked around the empty corridor and darted to the next opening along the corridor. An Alarm started to sound cross the building “I think I’ve out stayed my welcome” whispered X jokingly. As he Came to a turning X spotted a slim window and the end of the next corridor., running quickly X reached the window and put out his arm, the small cross on his hand began to charge, and glow a bright red, a huge scarlet blast shoot out of the hand blowing up not only the window, but the wall also.

“Your ,your noting going anywhere!” the brave guard from earlier dragged himself along the corridor towards X. X shook his head in amusement “when will you learn” he raised his left and fired a X shaped projectile from his palm, the projectile rapped around the guard and he fell to the ground. X put his left hand to his head, as if he was signing off to the injured man and fell backwards out the window into the night.

“You said it, babe”, thought Garth as he watched Guy and Sinestro move out to try and halt the criminal advance. “Grife, and here I thought Jo was arrogant.”

“So”, Garth said aloud as he looked at the Question and Imra, “While the two ring guys are off trying to contain the prisoners, what’s the plan for the three of us?”

"Information. We should try to find out exactly what this 'Unity' thing is."

The Question said:
"Information. We should try to find out exactly what this 'Unity' thing is."

Before we are out of range, I hear the Question's idea. I use my ring to amplify my voice.

"You should track down Luthor's files. If anyone knew anything about Unity, he did!"

They may wonder how I would know such a thing. Let them wonder.

"Luthor? His compony is in ruins. Shouldn't be too hard to break in."

Imra raised her eyebrow.
"We know, or at least I know everything that we can. Basically this Unity is an entity that is taking away peoples free-wills in an effort to promote 'peace and unity.' You can already see what it's done to Parasite and Superman. Expecially Superman." She said her voice dropping off at the end.

"You should track down Luthor's files. If anyone knew anything about Unity, he did!"

"Knew?" She questioned before looking off into the distance her eyes glazing as she tried to remember her history.
"Lex Luthor....but he.." She caught herself short.
"Where is he?"

"We don't know where it came from and how to send it back there. That's the only information that really matters at the moment."

"He disapeared a few weeks ago after Parasite went on a rampage in Metropolis. His company has been in complete chaos ever since. If there was enough of a sentient population to care, Metropolis would probably be headed into a new economic depression."

“Well”, said Garth as he lowered his head in thought, “I guess we could go and check out his company to see if there’s anything left that we could use.”

“I do know one thing though”, Garth said as he raised his head and looked at the others, “I’d feel a whole lot better if it wasn’t just the villain and the egomaniac trying to stop the criminals from killing innocent people.”

Despite all the inner turmoil he’s been going through since they came to the past, Garth was still a hero at his core. And he did not feel right going on a reconnaissance mission while an entire city is in danger.

Slade choked out, "I got no idea what the hell your talking about. This thing brought my daughter backto me, so I'm here to return the favor. And don't forget about me bailing your ass out in Metropolis, you would've caught it worse than you did if I hadn't steped in."
The Parasite's eyes shifted with anxiety. He dropped the Terminator onto the floor, letting him land on his feet. Even though he didn't require oxygen any more, Rudy found himself breathing heavily by reflex, just trying to assemble his thoughts properly. "I-I'm sorry Wilson. And I mean that. Apologies don't come easy from me, but this is a special occasion."

A chair materialized from the ambient matter of the Unity's ship. Rudy slumped backward into it.

"The cobwebs have finally been completely removed. Ya remember a couple years back when you, me, Luthor, Sinestro, Joker, and a few other guys were on the Injustice Society?" Rudy leaned forward, towards Slade for emphasis. "Lex and Sinestro screwed us all. They found evidence of the Unity's existance on the other side of the galaxy during our little war back then. They knew about Unity, but they didn't tell us, their teammates, about their discovery. Instead, they kept watch of it and collected info in secret, discovering that it could resurrect dead tissue, essentially bringing dead crap back to life. They were probably trying to come up with some way to harness it and use it to rule the world, or some bulls**t like that." The Parasite gritted his razor-sharp teeth in anger. "Luthor and Sinestro knew all about the Unity, but left you, me, Joker, Prometheus, Zoom, Boomerang, Faust, and Amazo in the dark. Of course, even after draining Lex consistantly for a few months, I still didn't know about it because of the effects of his mindwipe, courtesy of Hal Jordan." Rudy clenched his fist hard enough to crack his knuckles quite loudly. "Things could have been so different if they had told any of us about the Unity's Coming. Sure, things seem simply orgasmic right now; my powers were upgraded and you got your daughter back, but the fact remains that those two bastards betrayed our Society in not telling any of us about Unity and this apocolypse."

The Parasite's eyes glowed red.

"And they're gonna die for that betrayal."

"Agreed."

"What makes you think that yellow boy?" I ask Sinestro as we fly towards the break.

While waiting for him to reply, I take a look at the rings results.

That don't make sense.

The Superkid... he's kryptonian.

Not a half breed, a full blooded kryptonian.

And the ring sends another curve ball at my head... he's a perfect copy of Superman.

Just years younger.

This makes the game... a lot more interesting.

The Joker looked around. Blackgate Prison wasn't the cheeriest of places, but it had potential...

"Not just yet," replied The Joker, "Being here as got me thinking. Of course, we all appreciate your hospitality, but your laboratory isn't exactly the most secure of locations. Plus, it is in the heart of Gotham City, putting us in constant danger of attack."

The Joker didn't say anything about his experience with The Unity. But he silently thought about how The Unity had "visited" him at the lab, and therefore probably knew where theit hideout was.

"We need to think about what happens when The Unity finds us. We get put in a siege scenario. This place was designed to keep people in, but if we put the place on lockdown, it could be ideal for keeping people out. Plus, we're on an island, which makes it more protected."

The Joker opened the door of the security station, stepping out into the main body of Blackgate Prison.

"And with all the inmates now gone, the place is empty. You get to pick the room of your choice! HA HA!"

The Joker turned back to Scarecrow.

"It's about time we got a new hideout," he cackled, "And this could be the perfect place. What do you think?"

I am a little surprised at Gardner's comment. Perhaps he is slightly smarter then I believed. Most likely not, but his comment is astute. Fortunately, timing is with me as we approach the location of the prison.

"Look!" I say, pointing to the sight ahead of us.

The sight catches me slightly off guard. Hundreds of people swimming from the island prison to the land. Several had already made it to the city shore, and were beginning to climb onto land. Most were still swimming, while many flounder as their bodies begin to give out. Who knows how many have drowned.

I grab a dozen of the men on land with claws around their waists, and scoop up several dozen from the water, forming the scoop into a large bubble-platform. They pound against my constructs in an attempt to free themselves. The extra effort against my will increases the pressure on my mind. I ignore it. I look back to see what Gardner is doing.

Kal-El made himself known.

"Then we should act. According to our intelligence, the human called the Joker has resumed causing chaos in the Earth city known as Gotham by letting loose criminally-inclined humans into the city, presumably to have them kill our followers. The one called Sinestro would most likely follow his new allies there."

The Parasite waited a beat to process the thoughts.

"Let's roll," he snarled.

Deathstroke was standing over a table, going through his arsenal of assorted weapons, making sure everything was loaded or sharpened and ready to go. He looked at Parasite and Superman.

"I was with the Joker and those freaks, I can bet he's got bigger things planned than just letting criminals loose."

He cocked back his sawdoff shotgun and spun it around professionally.

"Lets go find out."

Sinestro's grabbed a few of the escapees with his ring.

I do the same.

Just better.

I grab about a dozen with my ring. They try striking back. Nothing happens.

Ain't no-one better than me.

I make a pen with my ring, big enough to drop the little b*stards in, and then look for more.

Well look is the wrong word. I can see them everywhere. Just gotta decide which ones to pick up first.
