The "World of Heroes" DC RPG Season III

The Joker looked around. Blackgate Prison wasn't the cheeriest of places, but it had potential...

"Not just yet," replied The Joker, "Being here as got me thinking. Of course, we all appreciate your hospitality, but your laboratory isn't exactly the most secure of locations. Plus, it is in the heart of Gotham City, putting us in constant danger of attack."

The Joker didn't say anything about his experience with The Unity. But he silently thought about how The Unity had "visited" him at the lab, and therefore probably knew where theit hideout was.

"We need to think about what happens when The Unity finds us. We get put in a siege scenario. This place was designed to keep people in, but if we put the place on lockdown, it could be ideal for keeping people out. Plus, we're on an island, which makes it more protected."

The Joker opened the door of the security station, stepping out into the main body of Blackgate Prison.

"And with all the inmates now gone, the place is empty. You get to pick the room of your choice! HA HA!"

The Joker turned back to Scarecrow.

"It's about time we got a new hideout," he cackled, "And this could be the perfect place. What do you think?"

The Joker might be a raving lunatic, but this plan actually makes sense. If we put Blackgate on lockdown, we would have our own fortress.

“I like your thinking Joker. I just need some essentials from my laboratory."

I am a little surprised at Gardner's comment. Perhaps he is slightly smarter then I believed. Most likely not, but his comment is astute. Fortunately, timing is with me as we approach the location of the prison.

"Look!" I say, pointing to the sight ahead of us.

The sight catches me slightly off guard. Hundreds of people swimming from the island prison to the land. Several had already made it to the city shore, and were beginning to climb onto land. Most were still swimming, while many flounder as their bodies begin to give out. Who knows how many have drowned.

I grab a dozen of the men on land with claws around their waists, and scoop up several dozen from the water, forming the scoop into a large bubble-platform. They pound against my constructs in an attempt to free themselves. The extra effort against my will increases the pressure on my mind. I ignore it. I look back to see what Gardner is doing.

Sinestro's grabbed a few of the escapees with his ring.

I do the same.

Just better.

I grab about a dozen with my ring. They try striking back. Nothing happens.

Ain't no-one better than me.

I make a pen with my ring, big enough to drop the little b*stards in, and then look for more.

Well look is the wrong word. I can see them everywhere. Just gotta decide which ones to pick up first.

“From the looks of things, we better get this placed locked down quick.”

I pointed out to the water where Sinestro and a Green Lantern were starting to round up the escaped inmates already.

“Call Black Mask, have him pick up those chemicals and get over here immediately. Tell him to bring some fire power with him too. We might have a fight on our hands. I’m going to set up a little welcoming for anyone foolish enough to try and stick their nose in our business. I would keep your gas mask handy.”

I take what is left of my fear toxin and head towards the ventilation system. Anyone who sets foot inside this prison is in for the scare of a lifetime.

Gardner grabs dozens of escapees, caging them in a pen. Excellent. There would be no reason to put them back into a prison from which they escaped, and I do not know this city well enough to know any other secure locations. I drop my 'cargo' into his holding area. If his will is half as strong as his ego, he could hold the entire city's popluation.

I see more escapees reach land. There are so many. And this is just the smallest sample of all imprisoned on this world. Someone remind me why I chose to learn from these heroes? I create a barrier several meters inland. It gives the escapees a place to avoid drowning, while preventing them from enetering the city.

But the key issue remains. I call out to Gardner. "I assume you know a location in this city to put all of these people?"

The Red X said:
The Red X reached to the massive steel vault door, and razed his arm and placed his hand on the centre of the door; suddenly a red glow appeared from around the palm of his hand. The sound of countless locks releasing was heard. The last bolt unlocked, and the enormous vault door opened outwards steadily.

20 well armed guards stood on the other side of the door. Each held large riffles pointed at X. The tall well built guard in the centre of the troops stepped forward; he held his riffle, to the height of his eye, so he would only need one shot “Put your hands above you head!” He ordered.

X razed his hands to head height. “I said above your head!” Shouted the guard angrily. X swiftly crossed his arms in front of him self, and the red crosses on the back of his hands

Expanded.

They then instantly began to spin rapidly. “Play time” said X, he jumped from the vaults door way and attacked the unexpectedly guards. X’s, fought against the vast numbers, and took down the guards slashing though their riffles, and fighting hand to hand with anyone, foolish enough to get close. He cut though the final guards riffle in two, and punched him in the face after. He looked down at the sea of bodies with a look of achievement “I’ve done this so many times,” X’s hand blades retracted back into the glove “Its beginning to lose the thrill” he dusted his hands off and looked around the empty corridor and darted to the next opening along the corridor. An Alarm started to sound cross the building “I think I’ve out stayed my welcome” whispered X jokingly. As he Came to a turning X spotted a slim window and the end of the next corridor., running quickly X reached the window and put out his arm, the small cross on his hand began to charge, and glow a bright red, a huge scarlet blast shoot out of the hand blowing up not only the window, but the wall also.

“Your ,your noting going anywhere!” the brave guard from earlier dragged himself along the corridor towards X. X shook his head in amusement “when will you learn” he raised his left and fired a X shaped projectile from his palm, the projectile rapped around the guard and he fell to the ground. X put his left hand to his head, as if he was signing off to the injured man and fell backwards out the window into the night.

X landed on a low level rooftop. His hand reached to his belt and removed the small computer chip from a compartment. He threw it up and caught it in his hand and quietly laughed to himself.

"Ahhhh!” X garbed his right arm tightly, he had been shot. Several guards were firing upon him, from the blown up wall above. He hastily returned the computer chip to one of his compartments on his belt. X raced across the surrounding rooftops, dodging the enemy fire. X darted across rooftop to rooftop still clenching injured arm. He started to reach street level. He made it to the end of the last rooftop.

"Freeze!" X turned; he was surrounded, out numbered and wounded. "Put the chip on the floor, now!" ordered one of the guards. X released his left hand from the wound of his right arm and, removed the chip from his belt once more. "Put it on the floor! “Then put your hand above your head" continued the guard. X looked down at the chip in the palm of his hand. His eyes tightened. He clenched his fist tightly and put his arm and straight forward. He opened his hand and the small shattered peaces of the chip fell to the floor. Enraged the guard shouted "shoot him!” X quickly tapped the button on the center of his belt. He vanishes into the night.

Later in a dim lit alley he reappeared. Out of breathe he released his hold from his arm and lent against the alley wall. He pulled an X shaped blade from his belt and broke the near by street light. In the alleys dark shadows he removed his mask and fell to his knees in a shallow puddle. He started to cough violently, blood splattered into the water. Still tired he put his mask back on, garbed the wall and pulled himself, clenched his arm once more and slowly walked down the dark grimy alley.

"Gas mask? HA HA!" laughed The Joker, "I think you're forgetting that your fear gas won't work on me. My mind's warped enough as it is! HAHAHAHAHA!"

Still chuckling to himself, The Joker took out his cellphone. He dialled up Black Mask's number.

"Blackie!...Yes, it's me...Yes, we're at Blackgate...You're out there with Harv and Eddie? Good!...You see, we've got a little problem here, some do-gooders are sniffing around outside...Yes, exactly...Your gang and Harv's gang are working together, right?...Good, well bring them all here, the more firepower we have, the better...Yes...Okay...Oh, and stop off at Scarecrow's lab...bring all the beakers on his table...Yes, we may be making Blackgate our new home...See you and the gang soon!"

Black Mask hung up, and The Joker muttered "prick" under his breath. He was just about to put away his phone when it rang again.

"Oh dearie me!" The Joker gasped at Scarecrow, "I'm popular tonight!"

In a flash of bright, blue light, the Parasite, Deathstroke and Superman were teleported onto earth. They stood, looking out at Blackgate and saw the numerous escapees swimming to and climbing to shore.

"Uhh... Kent, I guess you take the 200 guys on the left, Wilson'll take those guys on the right," Rudy pointed at another couple hundred former prisoners approaching. "And I'll take them slimey dick-heads who are coming up in the center."

What conceit! I am not from this world, and have rarely been to Gotham. And I am supposed to know an obscure name like 'hollows'? For a moment, I wonder if Gardner's ring doesn't actually run on brain power, explaining why he is always so dense. I want to rub the bridge of my nose, but I will NOT give him the satisfaction.

I sigh inwardly, knowing that the lack of knowledge in my next question will please Gardner to no end. "And what, exactly, are the hollows?"

Maybe I will take him to my world. See how smart he feels when I ask him to go to the Triageraon Narrows. Or maybe I will just remove his head from his shoulders. The heroes can't fault me for that, can they?

A blue light catches my attention. I turn in the air and see them. Unity's lieutenants. I will admit, Unity does know how to recruit talent. Afterall, it did try to bring me into its fold.

I look from the new arrivals, to those in the oceans. Even with our powers, Gardner and I can't fight these three, and save these people We need help.

"Gardner!" I call out. "Signal others. NOW! Get Jordan, Batman, anyone." I desend to meet our new arrivals.

Space. Stars stretching for all eternity, the sparkle or distant planets and swirl of hundreds of galaxies for as far as the eye could see. The majesty and the magic was breathtaking.

There was no more perfect place in the universe for an artist.

Kyle Rayner sat in an observatory room on the planet Oa, home of the Guardians and base of operation for the Green Lantern Corps. Life buzzed all around the planet, something that no one thought possible when Kyle was given the last power ring. The world was destroyed, and he was to be the last of the Green Lanterns.

Things had a way of changing pretty quick.

His self imposed exile to space had been very exciting, and at times, very peaceful. He had recently returned from a mission in the far corner of the galaxy, bringing two warring planets of the verge of annihilation to peace. Now he found himself relaxing, taking in the view and thinking of Earth. He had started to long for his home, for the friends and teammates he left behind. He had excorcised his personal demons, and buried the ghosts of the past. But would the world accept him? Would they want him back after such a long absence? Did they even need him?

Kyle watched a shooting star buzz past his line of sight. What he wouldn't do now for a sketch book. Thoughts of Earth began to fade from his mind. If he was destined to go back, something would show him the way. For now, he leaned his head back and closed his eyes.

We watched. The Spirit had a plan. We go in, stealthily making our way to the main computer room. Christopher Chance, they said, should be waiting for s there. Me and Jack would be the ones to go in. The Clock will tell us what to do. The Spirit and the Icicle are to come in shuld we need them. This is all they told me. They should keep an eye on Mahkent. The guy hates me.

We broke in, silently. That gas gun of Jack's comes in handy when dealing with henchmen. Hope that was knockout gas, those guys didn't look too good. Found an air vent. We found an air vent. Perfect. The main computer room. Christopher Chance was there. But his ribs were sticking out of hi chest.

Frightened? You bet. Even moreso when I deiscovered the parties responsible.

"Dr. Mid-Nite. And, interestingly, Midnight. Hm. What an unfortunate turn of events. We'll have to kill you."

Savage. What really concerned me was his use of the word "we."

We turned. We saw them. Savage was with two others. The... the Gambler? Hm. Must be a new one. And...... no.

No. We saw him. No. I didn't want to believe it. No. No. No.

"What's the matter, boys? Come on... Smile for me." the figure said, taking off his featureless gold mask. No.

"I got it."

Slade ripped off the magazine of hollow point bullets he had slung over his shoulder. He saw Green Lantern and Sinestro carrying prisoners in bunches to a safe zone. Deathstroke laughed and screamed out to them,

"You guys are going about this the wrong way."

He pulled out a modified automatic assault rifle and fed the magazine into the chamber. He had to hold the gun with two hands in order to keep it steady and he rested its butt against his midsection. Deathstroke looked over at his two companions.

"Check this bad boy out."

Slade braced himself as the rifle began pumping out rounds at the speed of a gattling gun, spraying bullets into the cold water below. The prisoners that didn't catch a face full of bullets kept swimming towards shore however, with no concern for the bullets coming at them.

Slade kept pumping out rounds regardless, he'd just have to take them all out quicker. He stabilized the gun with his knees and ripped out a depth charge grenade, pulling the pin and tossing it into the heart of the swimmers.

"We don't know where it came from and how to send it back there. That's the only information that really matters at the moment."

"He disapeared a few weeks ago after Parasite went on a rampage in Metropolis. His company has been in complete chaos ever since. If there was enough of a sentient population to care, Metropolis would probably be headed into a new economic depression."

Imra floated in the air. Her mind quickly trying to formulate a plan. She tried to access any ideas brainy would have but it was no use. His mind was full of Coluan figures and theories.
While it didn't seem important an economic depression in Metropolis would be a major shift in the history as they knew it. However the fact that Lex was in reality p...

Something hit her mentally, she turned as she heard Sinestro call out.
"Gardner!" "Signal others. NOW! Get Jordan, Batman, anyone."

"Oh..sprock."

She turned to her companions.
"They've called for Batman, who will bring Kent back with him. Also." Imra tilted her head. "I do think Supergirl is back in Metropolis."

She then turned to the Question.
"Whould you know how to find the things Sinestro illudes to?" She said calmly however her mind was wildly at work.

She sent a telepathic message to Sinestro and Guy.
***There is specific hostile intent in two of them towards one of you.*** She glanced towards the Prison ***You might also want to watch the prison, something bad is planned there.***

She knew Garth would be against leaving the action, however A Green Lantern, Sinestro and whoever else came would be more than a match for the three Unified Superpowered Humanoids.

"Where do you need to go?" She asked simply.

OOC:rex26, I don't know if ya'll planned this differently but isn't the Unity against killing?

NO!

I have only returned to being a hero for a short while, and I am not about to let someone kill hundreds of people below me, destroying what I have been working towards.

I see bullets strike a number of swimmers. Some ignore the pain and injury to keep swimming. Others sink below the surface, already with no hope. I dive down, and from the air, create a wall designed to reflect the bullets back at this villan. However, they explode on impact. And excellent tactic. So I form a giant hammer and slam it into the ground. It shakes the area, causing the attacker to fall to the ground. It also creates a wave that pushes the swimmers back towards Gardner.

"Why not try that on me!"
I say through gritted teeth.

I wanted to get the lay out of this new hideout, so I set out to explore it. Blackgate is a cold, dark, damp, miserable place. Ah, home sweet home. All these high security prison cells would make great cages to keep subjects for my testing in. While my mind was preoccupied with thoughts of torture, I was not watching where I was going and my feet slide right out from under me.

My head hit the ground with a thud and when I opened my eyes, I saw what had made me fall. It was ice, coming out of a cell. The cell door was unlocked from when the Joker had overridden the security codes. I pushed the door open to see something very much to my liking.

“Joker,”
I spoke into my radio. “I found something in the cell blocks that would be most useful to our operation. You need to get down here, but first, I need you to make a stop in the High Security Dangerous Material Evidence Area…”

A personal vendetta against either Gardner or myself. Knowing what I do about these three, I draw the simple conclusion.

And the prison. The prison is still a threat.

And the prisoners. Swimming for their lives. Many beginning to tire. It's too much. We're at an extreme tactical disadvantage. If reinforcements do not arrive soon...

"Damn..."

The Joker was in the Evidence Chambers. Wall-to-wall cabinets full of files, records and evidence. The history of all the Blackgate inmates could be found here. But he was looking for the evidence of one inmates in particular.

He'd been surprised when Crane told him about his discovery. It hadn't been expected, that's for sure. And now, here he was, pushing a trolley (just like supermarket sweep! HA HA!) into the High Security area, which housed weaponry and other dangerous material.

The Joker soon found what he was looking for, packed neatly into a few cases. He hauled all the cases onto the trolley, and wheeled it out of the Evidence Chambers. Now he had to head for the high security wing of the prison. He steered the trolley into the elevator, pushing the button.

"Going down!"

The Joker took the elevator down to the darkened chambers of the security wing. After some wandering, he spotted the unnerving silhouette of Scarecrow emerging from the darkness. He brought the trolley to where he was standing. Then, The Joker slowly turned his head, looking at what Scarecrow was looking at. his eyes slowly widened.

"Oh, this is interesting..."

I rush off planet towards Oa. I need to stop there to talk to the Corps, and see if i can get some help.

Even one more Green Lantern. That's all I need. One.

Kyle stepped out of the observatory onto the planets surface. If he really wanted to go back to Earth, why didn't he. It was his home. So what if they didn;t want a hero. There was a whole universe out there that could use him.

"C'mon, gimme a sign. Anything."

A green flash in the distance seemed to answer his call, though he didn't know it yet.

"Someone coming in for briefing probably." He had heard rummbling of alien smugglers in the Alpha Centuri region. Some of the new recruits were being brought in to go with a vet or two. Good training for them.

Kyle walked toward the center structure of the planet. The main chambers, and meeting place of the Guardians and the Corps. Maybe he'd listen in on any new briefings. Heck, he may even tag along on a few. Anything to keep himself busy.

Life's been crazy for the past week. Secret societies, a fifty-year agenda for world domination, ever-seeing madmen running the world behind the scenes...

The old adage is true; There are none so blind as those who canot see. Why haven't I seen it? What was I doing wrong? All this, and more runs through my head, as the creeping euphoria descends upon me. God be with us...

"Well? Are we having fun yet? I thought so. Gambler, you may fire when ready. Be serious this time; no Russian Roulette. We're playing for keeps this time."

You've never died, I bet. I did, once. It was big, and bright, and beautiful. I almost wished I could stay. It was about to happen again, permenantly. We couldn't stop them. The Gambler. Nice hat. Original had, you guessed it, gimmicked guns. I run into those a lot. Shot poison darts, bullets made of ice, or just plain bullets. Any of them will kill you. We were in serious trouble.

"Gimme a reason to first. Lemme just shoot some craps frst, an' I'll.."

"NOW."

BLAM. He shot Jack. He shot Jack. I can't.. do anything... dammit, Mahkent, what are you doing out there...

As Kara's ears pick up the announcement over the radio waves, she lifts her head.

Kal. I have to stop Kal before he hurts anyone else.

She dropped the fragment of cape she still held in her hands and let it float to the ground to remind the world that there were still heroes to fight for that symbol. A flash of pink light disappeared to the south, leaving a sonic boom in its wake, as Kara didn't waste time getting to Gotham.

"Kal. Stop. Before I make you stop. You've destroyed enough lives, and ruined the dreams and aspirations of the millions who look up to you. You've made Bruce's failsafes against our kind seem neccesary. I'm asking you one more time to please, end this. End it for your parents, how do you think Ma feels about all this? Do you think Pa's proud of what you're doing?"

She stared down the elder Kryptonian with fire in her eyes, she was ready to explode at him if he didn't snap out of it, and honestly, she didn't think this lecture would help...
