The "World of Heroes" DC RPG Season III

Imra closed her eyes and flew into the sky.

***I can't go through the Unity, however...***

"The Unity is getting stronger if it's taking on human form."

She could feel the pressure of it pressing in on all sides of her.
She withdrew into her mind.
Blackness swirled around her, calling to her before taking form in the shape of a man. A cloak of darkness billowed out, and the form pulsated casting ripples across her.

Why are you here?

Why are any of us here?

Imra glared at him.
You aren't earning any points with cryptic language. That's best left to Holovids.

The figure motioned a hand and Imra could see the battle between the Green Lanterns and the Unity created figure.
Why do people fight? Fear? Anger? I have the answer to all that. I can make this a peaceful place. We can make a peaceful existance for humanity. Isn't that what heroes do? They protect and create peace.

No, that's a contorted view. We protect them. We protect their free will. We don't make them do our bidding, if we helped you we would be abusing our powers.

But through free will they hurt each other. Your world is peaceful because there are no secrets. How is Earth any different?

We don't mess with peoples choices, or take that power away from them.

It seemed as if the figure smiled.
Imra, Imra...can't you tell? Can't you see? Scan me, feel me. Then you'll know.

She felt drawn towards the figure, the urge to search his mind and delve farther into it encompassed her mind.

NO! Is this how you did it with the others?

Oh no, they were much easier. However I didn't forsee a telepath in my plans. It took me a little bit longer to culture plans for you. Why do you think I’ve left you untouched so far?

"Then he doesn't know about the future.."

You know nothing about me! You don't know what I can do.

Don't get that impression. I have more knowledge than you think.

Her vision seemed to blur as she felt her mind pulled to him. A peaceful feeling washed over her. She relaxed, there was no need to fight anymore, she smiled. Suddenly she sensed something familier. She was going to deep, she clung to her mind, not allowing it to slip into the Unity’s grasp, she pulled herself out, pain shot through her as she eased away.

NO! You can't do this. GET OUT!" She screamed pushing it away. All the the good feelings, the peace, the lies.

Pink rays extended from her piercing the darkness, melting it as the rays intensified.

GET OUT OF ME AND NEVER COME BACK!

This isn’t over…..

NO!
Through all of her pushing she could feel the Unity put up no fight.

untitled1.jpg

“Why is it pulling out?” Mentally she could feel the one known as Kyle leave this reality along with a portion of the Unity.

Slowing her heartbeat down she sifted through the knowledge she’d gotten from the Unity. Her mind ached in pain.

Opening her eyes the bright sunlight pierced them. Blinking a few times she landed back on the roof next to Garth and spoke cooly.

“Wonder Woman and Jay Garrick are at the Fortress of Solitude, they are being attacked by Parasite. Superman is with the current Flash in a hospital. I can’t get a lock on Supergirl.”

"Now we are getting somewhere"

"Well, this certainly doesn't seem like the kind of situation where I'd be much help."

The Central Power Battery. All the willpower into the universe funneled into a giant lantern-like structure. A finite, encolsed space. Yet inside, it swirled on forever in a never-ending plane. The idea had always fascinated Kyle's inner artist. Even now, he found a small part of him contemplating the idea.

Those thoughts were soon pushed aside as he rematerialized inside of the Battery. The Unity, or the part of it still in the form of Major Force, stood just in front of him. Of course, in here, he could have also been hundreds of miles away at the same time. Kyle didn't stop to think about the quandry. He leapt forward, tackling the entity and driving it down through the swirling clouds of energy. Or up. Or maybe they were going sideways. Kyle threw another punch, encasing his hand in hard light. He could feel the power of the Battery pulling to him. He felt at home, at peace.

GLMajorForce.jpg

"Fool, where have you taken me?"

"This is what you wanted, right? The power of my ring. The power of Ion. This is it, swiriling all around us. And unending, unfading supply of pure willpower, drawn from all around the universe and given to all Green Lanterns through our power rings."

He saw the confusion wash across the face of the entity.

"You've heard the stories, haven't you. How powerful the Green Lanterns are, that the rings are the most powerful weapons in the universe. The legend of Hal Jordon, his fall and resurrection. How a simple kid from the streets of L.A. became the last Green Lantern, how he inherited the power of a god and brought a planet and it's inhabitants back to life. If you could just have that power, you would be unstoppable. But that's where you questions stopped. You never cared to find out how that power works, what it comes from. The very thing you're seeking is the only thing you fear. Free will, creativity, the power to choose your own destiny, to be an individual. With humans, you can have them shut down that part of their brain. You can;t touvh it, but you can make them hide it. You fear it. I thrive on it."

Major Force began to disapate as the Unity showed it's true form. A blue-gray misty abiration, with two glowing eyes and what Kyle could only figure to be the equivalent of a heart glowing at it's center. It spoke to him, telepathically.

"We have overcome many obstacles in our lifetime. Millions before you thought they had the answer to stop us, only to fall under their false hope. You are no different. You, like those before you, will fall unless you back down."

Kyle didn't believe it. And he suspected the Unity didn't either. His power ring crackled with energy.

"Bring it."

The Parasite was grinning as he happily drained Jay Garrick to the brink of death. He even chuckled softly to himself, that is, until he felt a certain familiar golden lasso wrap around his arm and yank him off of the Flash.

Wonder Woman pulled as hard as she could on the Parasite and began spinning around faster and faster, creating a small cyclone. She strafed her footing until her swinging arc, consisting of Rudy Jones, began smashing into the glimmering walls of Superman's Fortress, causing great pain to the purple monstrosity. However, unknown to Diana, as the Parasite swung into a wall and crumbled it on impact, he had managed to grab onto a large chunk of rubble. Fighting the immense G-force working against him, Rudy threw the piece of debris at the center of the cyclone he was trapped in: Wonder Woman.

armband8gy.th.jpg

Luckily for the Parasite, blind luck was on his side today as the chunk of rubble struck the Amazon Princess directly in the solar plexus. Wonder Woman was forced to let go of her lasso and clutch her body in pain. With great speed, Rudy tore off the now loose rope and lunged at Wonder Woman.

killwwkillhernow7ie.jpg

With all of her effort, Wonder Woman tried to swing a punch at the Parasite, but with the speed he had stolen from Jay Garrick, Rudy was easily able to see her punch coming and have barely enough time to avoid it comfortably. Diana continued to try throwing punches, headbutts, and any other form of attaack she could think of to use from her current position, but she wasn't getting any faster while the Parasite, on the other hand, was infact, getting faster. Soon, the Amazonian warrior felt her eyelids grow too heavy to keep open and fell unconscious.

"Heh. That'll teach ya. B**ch."

The Unity moved towards Kyle. He dodged, but then realized that the Unity had moced backwards. He processed this quickly. The Unity must be analyzing the Battery, exploring it's properties. It was using it's infinite dimensions and directions to it's advantage. Why wouldn't it just attack, though? Unless, it couldn't.

Kyle grinned, and fired a blast of energy behind him, away from the Unity. He sensed a confusion, and then the floating mist was hit from behind with the blast. Two could play at that game.

"You are resourceful, young one. It's a shame you will be destroyed. You would have been a valuable assest to us."

"Nah, I'm not too good at taking orders."

Imra lifted into the air. The feeling of the Unity's taint on her mind. She struggled to get it all out of her.

***We have to go to the fortress of Solitude. NOW! Give the rings all the will power you can.***

She glanced at the Red X before looking at Garth.
Just to him she commented.
***We should give him a ring. The limitations they have in this era...***

To the others.
***We have to hurry.***
She flew off, a blur of pink.

X stared into the air as Irma rose above him.

“Well, you’re just full of surprises today doll face”.

***We have to hurry.***
She flew off, in a blur of pink.

Garth paused a second going over what Imra just said.
Grife, we're giving these things out like candy now.

"Hey, X", Garth said as he reached into his belt pouch. "You're going to need this."
Garth tossed the flight ring to X.
"It's a Legion flight ring. All you have to do is think it, and you can fly."

"You got that right, babe", said Garth as he rose into the skies, "especially if they're being attacked by that purple monster."

Garth tossed the flight ring to X.
"It's a Legion flight ring. All you have to do is think it, and you can fly."

X caught the ring in his hand, and then clenched it tightly in his fist.

“So that’s what I’ve been doing wrong all these years”.

X closed his eyes and concentrated hard, nothing happened. “This is stupid” he said angrily. He enviously looked up to the other floating in the sky.

“What the hell”. He closed his eyes once more and strengthened his hold on the ring. His feet dragged up from the floor and he slowly floated up to the others.

He reached the others height, and looked over at Garth, “I do get to keep this right?” asked X jokingly.

"Funny", Garth said with a raised eyebrow and a smirk, "now, all jokes aside, we need to hurry to the fortress for the old fashioned, last second rescue."

Garth turned to Imra, "Imra, since you can get a fix on them telepathically, you should lead the way."

"I don't know if you realize this, but you are the epicenter of one of the fourteen areas that have not been completely Unified. Your presense is the key to it. You may not have access to your powers, but you still are connected to the Speed Force. And that's all what we need."
OOC: Sorry I took so long. Midterms are kicking my ass this week.:(

IC: Flash III

"...what?" I say astonished. "My powers? They're still here?". Astonishment turns to joy as I'm just about speechless. Rare occurance, that one.

"Okay, okay. Umm. Um. How do I get em to work? What do you want me to do?"

OOC: You can bunny me from here if you like. This conversation's gonna take too long and we better get this movin'.

I open my eyes and all I can see is the bright lights of the Batcave infirmary. How did I get here? The last thing I remember is fighting with Deathstroke. I try to move, but the pain in my knee is excruciating. I can't even get up. That's when it all comes back to me. How could I have been so careless?

"Bruce, are you there?"

"I'm here Dick."

"What happened, how did I get here?"

"I found you lying in the streets and brought you back here to recover."

"I can't believe I let Slade do that to me. How bad is the damage?"

"Torn ACL and MCL, you are going to out of commission for a while and it is going to be a long road back."

"Well then I guess I should get started."...

"That would be a good idea." I have one foot out of the door of the infirmery before I stop and look at him. Before I even say anything he cuts me off.

"Don't worry about me, Bruce. Just do the saving the world stuff, you got me?"

"You got it." I step out of the infirmary and to the computer. I put Question's disc inside and scan through it.

I thought before that I had a pretty good idea of the skeletons that are inside Luthor's closet. Apparently those were just the ones that covered the cemetary lying beneith it. I need only to throw one of the skulls into the public's bedroom and it would be enough for Luthor to not only have my fortune given back to me, but to have to pay with Food Stamps for the rest of his natural life. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy, quite frankly.

I save the rest of incriminating evidence for later, like Dick said, there's a bit more at stake than Luthor having my family's legacy, I have a world to help save.

I look through Luthor's satilites. Though they're slightly dated because of the lackthereof satilites currently in space, I get a fair estimation of this "planet" the others were talking about.

From the footage I've gotten, the planet has been forming for the past few months, it being built too fast for it to be a regular astrogical event, and fits around the general timeline of how Clark said this "Unity" came to be. My hypothesis is that the planet is a physical manifestation of Unity's power on our plane. It's possible that if we attack this "planet" then we could defeat Unity, or at the very least loosen some of its power.

I was about to get on the comm to inform everyone when Saturn Girl's voice rings through my skull like a sledgehammer just got through.

***We have to go to the fortress of Solitude. NOW! Give the rings all the will power you can.***

***I hear you, Saturn Girl.*** I reply back to her. I almost stop to check on Dick before I left, but the severity of the situation exceds us. Hell, even if his leg is a limp noodle, Dick would attempt to beat me as black and blue as his costume if I stopped.

I grab some spare equipment for my belt and added more thicker Kevlar around the suit, both for warmth whilest in the artic as well as whatever it is that's going on. Half of me wishes I still had the Biosuit, but the thing is damaged beyond repair at this point. Besides, if being on the other side of the tracks has thought me one thing, it's that I don't need my wealth and nifty gadgets to do what I do.

I take the ring and take off as fast as I can to the Fortress.

The cave becomes Gotham, becomes farmland, becomes Canada, becomes the Artic Ocean and finally becomes the North Pole, with the Fortress so close I can practically touch it.

I look and find the passage I usually take when I'm in the Jet, flying through so fast I swear I can see the slush of the ice flying along side me. I make it to the center of the Fortress when I see why I was called here.

Rudy Jones. The Parasite. Supervillain, former member of the Injustice Society, and currently the lead leutendent of The Unity. He stands amonst the rubble, with Diana lying underneigth him and Jay Garrick paler than death itself.

Parasite seemingly cannot see me, so my first priority is to get the two to a safe location. I put them both over my shoulders and carry them to a room that wasn't too terribly damaged.

I check on Garrick first. What I said earlier about "paler than death itself" sounds about right. The only thing that could have done this is if the Speed Force was somehow taken away from him. Parasite must have drained it from him. I find a painkiller and got it in him; not enough to get him in running shape, but enough to keep him alive until this is over.

Then to Diana. She seems drained, but not in the way Garrick was. Garrick's weakened abilities, Parasite's abilities, and Diana's stubborness, it doesn't take even a novice detective to figure out what happened with her. Not much can be done for her, but her metahuman metabolism will probably have her in fighting shape in no time.

Both of them here, plus the reinforcements that's bound to be coming judging from Saturn Girl's mental bullitin board, means that something big is happening here, something that could stop Unity. Parasite is undboubtly here to destroy whatever it is he wants. I'll have to stop him, or at the very least keep him occupied until the others come.

I launch out of the room and quickly tracked Parasite. I take out some explosives and throw them to where he won't get its inertia, but close enough to get his attention. I float over him, letting the image of the "human of the Trinity" flying get stuck in his head. If I were a lesser man, I might take the ring when this Legion leaves and use it as my own.

"Parasite. If you can't figure out why I'm here, then you're a bigger idiot than I thought."

035ko.png

I hear Saturn Girl's voice blaring in my head.

***We have to go to the fortress of Solitude. NOW! Give the rings all the will power you can. We have to hurry.***

Then, the elictric kid speaks.

"Hey, X, You're going to need this."

He tosses a ring to the guy with the red X on his outfit.

"It's a Legion flight ring. All you have to do is think it, and you can fly."

Then, they all just take off. I yell after then.

"YOU KNOW I DON'T HAVE POWERS, RIGHT?"

Kyle had lost track of time. Truth be told, time didn't exactly exist where he was at, but he knew he knew he had to get back to Earth soon. His very being burned, his mind was exhausted. But he felt the Unity slipping.

It was time for his end game.

Kyle floated to a postion that was perspectively above the entity. The ring sparked with energy. The space around Kyle warped as he channeled the power fo the battery into his ring. Pure, unending willpower. It was a dangerous gamble. The ring could overload, his mind could shut down. But he had to try.

Kyle felt the power fly through him, felt the burn in his very soul as the power erupted from his ring, cutting through time, space, and the Unity.

Nothing happened. The beam of green light seemed to pass harmlessly through the entity. Kyle felt himself falter, felt the darkness creeping up. Then he felt it. The pain, from below. The glowing orb in the middle of the mist began to expand, to glow green. The Unity had grabbed onto the power, and it was killing it. But now it was connected to Kyle, and the Central Battery. Kyle could feel it draining the energy from him at the expense of its own life.

"Not today."

Kyle let go with one final burst. The orb expanded one final time, the disappated in a brilliant flash of light. Kyle was pushed backwards by the shockwave. Mustering his final bit of strength, he ripped open the fabric of space and time, and in an instant found himself back in Metropolis.

He'd done it. He'd beaten a part of the Unity, but almost lost everything.

"Good idea," he told himself, "but too risky."

Kyle stood up and looked around. The first faint glow of sunlight began to peer over the horizon. The streets were still cold, and empty, but now all the heroes were gone. Kyle made his way to the top of the Lexcorp building. No one there either.

"Ring. Power check."

"12.8 percent."

Kyle pulled his battery from it's dimensional rift and held his ring to it. He felt the power flowing back into it. Once his ring was fully charged, he placed it back into it's hiding place.

"Ring, do you know where the others went."

"Outside force is blocking locating abilities. Faint futuristic life force residue in immediate area. Flight path was a northern orientation."

It wasn't much, but it was all Kyle had. Bets were any heroes heading north right now were headed to the Fortress. And Kyle Rayner was never one to skip out on a party.

His powered up his ring and headed north.

Imra stopped mentally kicking herself.

***Kyle, please pick up The Question***

Something was throwing her telepathy off, and it wasn't just her run-in with the Unity. There was something else. SHe glanced at Garth.
Everytime she felt him there were feelings of the Unity there. She knew that the Unity had approached him. Had it left traces of it's self in him like it had with her?

She focused her mind totally into the ring. SHe payed no heed to the quickly changing scenery underneath her.
She knew she was near the Fortress just by the stronger feelings she was getting from Jay Garrick.
Wonder Woman was knocked out.

Imra landed in the fortress in just enough tim to see Batman speak to the Parasite.
Reaching out her first priority was making sure Wonder Woman was in stable condition.
"Thank goodness..she's okay"

X landed down beside Irma, he looked over to batman and parasite, then to Irma. “Be ready…” he pulled a X-a-rangs from his belt, “This is where the fun begins”.

The Batman's explosives were child's play to dodge with the speed RUdy had stolen from Garrick. Faster than Wayne's eyes could possibly follow, Rudy was standing within an inch of Batman, whose eyeline was level with the Parasite's sternum. "Ya got a death wish, Bats?"

Then Rudy saw the others arrive. With great speed, Rudy swung his arm at Batman, sending him reeling towards his companions. "Don't pick a fight you can't win, Bruce."

"Figure I am," I mutter whilst pulling myself off of the others. At this point, the only advantage I have is that we're in almost sub-zero temperatures which should weaken Parasite if only a little bit. But, something tells me that he didn't join Unity for free, that Parasite might be stronger because of Unity's tampering. No way of knowing for sure, unless...

"Tell me, Rudy, what does it feel like to be the Unity's head b***h?" I admit, talking trash has always been more Dick's field, but being near him and the other Titans, espically Roy or Gar, you're bound to know a few.

I get some more explosives and take off, throwing them around the area, letting the ice break down on him. I decide to fly closer to his face and talk some more "trash."

"What's Unity paying you with? Money? Power? Have you been promised to be a duke in Unity's kingdom? Like I said earlier, you're a bigger idiot than I thought."

Garth was a bit behind the others and arrived at the Fortress just in time to see the Batman get knocked back by his new ally.

Great, it sprocking figures, Garth thought to himself. He had hoped that the Parasite would be gone by the time they arrived. He didn't want to fight his new ally in the quest to bring peace to the world, but it seemed he had no choice. He was on an undercover mission after all. He and the Red X still needed to find out what the other misguided heroes had planned against the Unity, and Garth was not acustomed to failing a mission.

He'd just have to hold back a bit, and hope that the Parasite did the same to him.

The Question said:
"YOU KNOW I DON'T HAVE POWERS, RIGHT?"

"Cry me a river."

Kyle encased The Question in a sphere of green light. Inside, he contsructed a seat for him to sit on. As soon as he made sure the construct was solid, Kyle sped off to the North Pole with The Question in tow. The trip took mere minutes, though it was evident by the sounds coming from the structure that the dou had arrived just a tad late.

"Nothing like making an entrance," Kyle said, freeing Question from the green ball. He walked into Superman's humble abode just in time to Batman in the Parasite's face. Sparky Guy and the X dude stood off to the side. Kyle made a mental note to keep one eye on them during this fight. But first, he would need some back-up.

"Hal, it's Kyle," he called into his communicator. "My plans not going to work, but we have bigger problems right now. Get to the Fortress stat!"

Imra shook her head. Something was wrong it had been boring at her mind for so long. It had faded into the background given the constant humming of the unified minds.
The Unity’s touch on her had somehow caused it to stand out.
It had been ever since…

“GARTH!”

Colors exploded from her, pushing him back against a wall.

“NO! You didn’t!”

untitled1.jpg

She could feel it now, Garth had become part of the Unity. She pinned him against the wall her eyes glowing. She began to peel back and strip off the layers the Unity had placed on Garths mind.

Anger at betrayal turned to fear.
“There’s too much of it…where is he?”
Tears stung her eyes.

OOC: Left you a little wiggle room before I get into it.

IC: Rudy raised his eyebrow "What's it feel like to be the Unity's b**ch?" Faster than Batman's brain could register the action, the Parasite had slapped him across the room. "You tell me. You're the one gettin' slapped like a b**ch!"

Using Wonder Woman's powers, Rudy began floating off of the floor and looked at the others.

"Anyone else want to dance?"
