The "World of Heroes" DC RPG Season IV

Kyle held a green sword construct in his hand, swinging away at several attacking ninjas. They attempted to block the blows, but Kyle's sword cut right through there weapons. He reached out with his other hand, willing up a giant fist and knocking a half dozen of so terrorists unconscience.

"J'onn," Kyle called out telepathically. "I'm in the city, but it would really help if I knew why these people are attacking."

Kyle disposed of a few more ninjas.

"If I knew why they were here, it might help a little more in fighting them off."

I nod my head at Kyle's comment. "This night did seem to last forever. But I think it has been worth it." The Batman was back to protect his city. Lobo and the Joker had both been ousted. And we have let the other heroes know that Rayner, the Manhunter, Superman, and I are reforming the League.

"Batman, Question," I say to the them, "I assume you can handle things here from now on. And it is past time that Green Arrow receive some care. If you are willing Rayner, and the Arrow agrees, I think he would likely get the best care back in Star City. So, if you would be kind enough to transport us there before handling your own affairs..."

"Righto."

I turn to Bruce.

"So, ready to have a little fireside chat with the citizens of Gotham?"

He tumbled backwards. The Rogues had been too much for him, after exhausting his powers earlier by stopping the skyscraper's collapse and then the fight with Bane. He blacked out, and the last thing he saw was the smoke rising from his seared chest.
What Superman didn't see is what some civillains, who were intervieiwed after the devastating battle, called a miracle. The S-shield on his chest, so long a symbol of hope, began glowing brighter and brighter until a massive version of the shield appeared in the sky above Metropolis.

At the Fortress of Solitude, a dozen small, hovering robots eagerly viewed status monitors of their master's wife, the lady Lois Lane. A holographic display of her bloodstream showed the progression of the virus, halted only by the stasis field that she was currently suspended in. Suddenly, one of the monitors, floating fifteen feet from the ground, began beeping urgently. One of the small golden robots floated up to it. It began speaking, a form of robotic communication that sounded like static but was in fact a series of highly complex binary messages. A rough translation would be, "Oh dear! Priority 1 Alert!"

The other golden robots swiveled their heads to look at the other one. One of the robots, gifted with the name Kelex by their master, said "Priority 1? The Master is in danger?"
"Yes. Biomonitors weaved into his suit show massive internal damage, irregular heartbeat, and brainwaves correspond with the Master's mind when unconscious. Signal has been sent. Alert raised beyond Priority 1. Monitor indicates Doomsday Priority. Analysis and commands, Kelex?"
"Our chief function is the continued survival of our master. Get me one of the Superman robot-decoys, modified for emergency field care, and resuscitation protocal A/1."

As busy as the Fortress had been before, it now exploded into a frenzy of activity. Twenty more of the golden Kryptonian robots came online and began hurriedly modifying a deactivated Superman robot. one of the robots traces the S-sheild on the robot's chest, causing it to slowly open. A miniature yellow sun, held in a gravity chamber small enough to be held in one human hand, was placed inside the robot's chest. As the immense power source was placed inside the chest of the robot, it's circuitry almost seemed to glow with the newfound power that such a generator provided. Kelex then hovered over, carrying a bright red crystal data rod that he inserted into the robot's open chest, in a special hexagonal hole designed to accept such a device. Once inserted, the chest closed with a hiss and the robot's eyes snapped open with a click. THey were so like the master's eyes, thought Kelex. The robot spoke.

"I require the ceremonial robes of the healers," it said in a voice that was so close to Kal-El's it was shocking. As Kelex hovered away, he thought that his hearing receptors detected more coldness from the robots voice than was usual, but dismissed it as a side effect of the healing protocol.

Moments later, the robot stood garbed in the Kryptonian robes. "Yes... this should do nicely. Kal-El will be safe, this much I can guarantee."

With that, the robot shot off at super-speed, a red blur as it navigated the Fortress and flew through the arctic water exit. Ninety three seconds after its activation, the upgraded Superman robot was flying towards Metropolis at eight times the speed of sound.

"You're a persistent little bunch, aren't you."

Kyle slugged a ninja across the face, letting his momentum carry him around in a 180-degree spin, lashing out with his ring to take down a few more attackers.

"So, any of you guys speak English. It's really boring trying to fight when I'm the only one talking."

They advanced towards Kyle, swords drawn.

"OK, Have it your way."

I say we go Legolas and Gimli style on these guys, whoever drops the least buys the beer after the fight, eh? Eh? Eh?"

Rather than follow Nightwing accross roofs, Arsenal shot a grapple to the lower floor of the neighboring building, and swung down to the street. He hit the street and found himself in the midst of about a dozen ninjas.

"Uh... this isn't where I parked my car...."

The ninjas started closing in around him.

"What? Never seen Eurotrip, or just no sense of humor?"

Before they could get any closer, Roy whipped out his two modified, non-lethal pistols and started taking shots at the soldiers, their wounds instantly cauterizing to prevent too much blood loss. As Roy dropped five of them, he got on the two way frequency shared by him and Nightwing.

"I'm betting the latter, and Disco Stu, I'm at 5... make that 6. No wait, seven."

They kept coming and coming, and no ammount of shooting was slowing them down. Roy was surrounded and the only he could move out of the crowd was up...

Ah well, here goes nothin...

He fired his grapple at a nearby awning and reeled it in so that he was barely above the crowd of assassins.Hanging on with one arm, he kept shooting the ninjas that were now looking for a way to reach him.

A shuriken flew threw the air from behind Roy, and sunk deep into his unprotected left arm. Profanities flew from his mouth as he fell back into the crowd of ninjas. He quickly opened up the main radio channel.

"This is Arsenal... I'm kinda in trouble here, and could use whatever help is offered... But please hurry or dammit all, I'll be reunited with the two most important women in my life, and I AIN'T ready for that yet."

Oa.

"Four years? What do you mean four years?"

The Guardians hovered above the Main Power Battery.

"2814.1 We have taken from your memory the events of the last four years. We believe it is for your and the Corps own good."

These dwarves have pushed me for the last time.

"So. I'm just supposed to return to work. No problems. Like nothing ever happened. You took four years of my life!!!"

"We weighed the consequences and the benefits. We feel that this is the only solution."

"Solution? Well I've got a solution for you. I quit. How does that weigh into your plans?"

"There are events on the horizon. Events that will require your skills, 2814.1. The last four years of your life are simply a burden that will only hinder the task before you. We know of your desire to make a difference in your sector. We know of your need to administer justice on Earth. You won't quit."

Blue skinned bastards. Are they right? Would I give up the ring now that I've finally accepted my fate?

*Subspace message relay. Time delay : Twenty four hours*

"Go ahead, ring."

~Justice League. This is J'onn J'onzz. Metropolis is in grave danger, and we must thwart this threat before it spreads. Superman and I need your assistance. Make your way to Metropolis as soon as you can. This is an emergency. I will keep this telepathic channel open.~

"It would appear that you have responsibilities in your sector, 2814.1."

"Yeah. I do. But this isn't over."

Might as well get a charge off the Main Power Battery while I'm here.

"In brightest day, in blackest night,
no evil shall escape my sight!
Let those who worship evil's might,
beware my power... Green Lantern's light!"

Hal Jordan turned back to the Guardians.

"I will be back. This isn't over."

Hal Jordan soared away. The sound of a wormhole opening up could be heard in the distance.

"No 2814.1. Unfortunately this isn't over."

He had strayed from the group. The Rogues and the ninjas could handle the small timers. The Parasite would handle the big guns.

As their team was storming through the streets of Metropolis and approaching the army led by Bane, the Parasite saw, with the telescopic vision he still retained, the heavy hitters flying and marching behind Bane.

And he took off. At speeds too fast to be caught by the human eye, the Parasite flew over the crowd and began his assault of a series of narrow beams of heat vision on the enemy. Blackrock, Terra-Man, and Neutron were the first the pick up on the attack and respond in kind. Each of them flew into the air and launched a volley of attacks toward Rudy. The Parasite dodged the blasts and grinned as he flew in the direction of Suicide Slums, away from the rest of this war, to get some privacy. His airborne fans followed him as Superman arrived on the scene.
Flying under his own free will had always been a rush for Rudy Jones. From the very first time he had gotten his absorption powers and tapped into the Firestorm Matrix, he had grown to savor any opportunity presented to him that would grant him the power of flight.

And if simple flight was a rush for the Parasite, aerial combat was a blast!

Buildings were styrofoam as Rudy grabbed onto Neutron's arm and spun him in circles before letting go, watching as the nuclear man was hurled into one of the countless condemned ratholes littering the neighborhood.

"God damn you, Parasite!" Blackrock's suckerpunch sent Jones downward, careening uncontrollably into the lower foundation of a homeless shelter. The cement and bricks exploded from the force of the impact and the Parasite couldn't be seen through the dust.

Breathing heavily, Blackrock gently descended cautiously towards the faltering building. "Why the hell are you fighting, Jones?! You have no stake in this war. You're immune to disease, and you don't have a bomb strapped to your body. So why the hell are you here? Is it just to screw with Luthor's plans? Is that all it is?! You think that makes you unique? Special? Hell, Rudy, we all got a beef with Lex!" As he was shouting his questions, the media-powered Blackrock let loose a stream of massive energy blasts at the crumbling construct, sending the rest of the homeless shelter toppling down into a pile of dust and rubble.

Suddenly the fallen cement and concrete erupted as a set of gigantic purple shoulders heaved their way upward.

atya17sr.jpg

"Why am I here, Silverstone? You really wanna know?" The Parasite flew up to meet Blackrock several dozen feet above the streets. He reached at Blackrock's neck, but Silverstone delivered a sharp punch to Jones' jaw. The blow was shaken off by the Parasite, and replied to with a left hook that could shatter mountains. But Blackrock wasn't about to give up the fight, and his very life, without putting up the best fight he could muster. Blackrock, being the smaller of the two fighters, but equal in strength, easily landed a powerful kick to the Parasite's solar plexus and freed his neck from the monster's grip.

Rudy recoiled for only the slightest of moments before lunging ferociously at Blackrock once again. This time, Silverstone defended himself by creating a force field around him, but to no avail. The Parasite didn't even seem to notice the barrier as it appeared to dissipate the moment the energy-absorbing man touched it. Before Blackrock could renew his defenses, an enormous purple hand was covering his entire head while the other hand grabbed Dr. Silverstone's right wrist. In his right hand was held the source of Blackrock's power: the dark stone that gathered and amplified telecommunication signals from around the world and turned them into usable forms of energy that coursed through the user's body.

The Parasite leaned in close to Blackrock's head as the man's muffled screams could be heard. "Luthor's just the sweet, sweet icing on the cake, Silverstone. I'm here because you led the Unity's troops through China last year. You were one of his chief lieutenants in Asia." Rudy could barely make out the excuses coming from Silverstone's covered mouth, but Jones didn't care as he broke Blackrock's wrist and snatched the stone from his limp hand. "Say hi to the Unity for me," hissed the Parasite as he let the drained bones and ashes of the man who was once Dr. Peter Silverstone crumble between his fingers and drift back to the ground below.

Rudy Jones looked at his palms. In one hand was the actual black rock, and he could feel the immense power coming from the stone into his body. In the other hand were dried up flakes of skin left over from the soldier he had just killed. One of the soldiers of his greatest enemy. Nothing's changed. Will every one of these-

The Parasite was shocked out of his reverie as Neutron tackled him from behind, screaming in rage. Both of the men fell to the ground from the force of Neutron's impact. As they wrestled, punching and kicking, they could feel the ground begin to shake underneath of them. The Parasite looked up, passed the collapsed buildings around them, and saw Tobias Manning, the Terra-Man, in the distance. Manning was laughing.

"What the hell's so damn funny?!" hollered Rudy, but his question was answered as the earth beneath them began to shoot skyward, in giant towers of mud and dirt. "Aw crap."

It took the robot just under ten seconds to reach Metropolis at its current speed of Mach 8. As it flew through the city, glass windows broke in its wake, showering the empty streets with shards. A red blur, it streaked over two mountains of Earth that had begun forcing their way through the streets of Metropolis. It continued unabated, seeking the source of the massive symbol in the sky. At Mach 9, it flew past the burning, embattled headquarters of the SCU. It stopped, suddenly, as it was bathed in the light of the symbol. It looked down to see the body of Krypton's last son surrounded by battling humans. One man, wearing a preposerous top hat and tuxedo and wielding a wand launched a blast of etheric energy at the still form of Kal-El.

A nanosecond before the blast would have struck the Kryptonian, the robot appeared in front of it. A ripple of destruction followed him, and the stricken skyscraper above them began tilting dangerously to one side. The robot looked at the human, a small man with strange facial hair. The analysis and scan of the man took less than a picosecond. The machine glanced with eyes of fire at the human, and in less than a second's time, William Zard was dead.

The robot felt beams of energy strike its back, but paid them no heed as it picked up its target. Kal-El of Krypton, son of the scientist Jor-El and Lara. The last Kryptonian, the one living breathing reminder of a world of wonder long dead. Slowly, the robot ascended with Superman's body cradled in its arms. Finding an empty rooftop, one of some human living structure, it laid the unconscious form of its master down. The ends of the four fingers on its left hand opened, revealing strange, glass objects that glowed an odd green. When the machine held its hand near Superman's body, beams of green energy leapt from its hand. First, it mended the broken bones, accelerating their healing to levels beyond even Superman's level. Then it moved over his chest, sealing the punctured lungs, the energy detecting the blood in his lungs and obliterating it. Finally, the strange energy stabilized his heartbeat. The signal in the sky vanished as suddenly as it had appeared.

Superman took a deep breath as his eyes snapped open. He began coughing, but the robot held him until he stopped. After his coughing fit, Clark looked at his savior. In an instant, he realized what had happened.

"You're from the Fortress, aren't you?"
"Yes, Master Kal-El."
"How bad were my injuries?"
"They were fatal, even for you."

Superman stood up, noting that he was virtually powerless still. "Is there anything you can do about my powers? The last couple of days have drained them almost totally."
"I can restore your power, yes. But-"
"But?"
"But only if you help me, Kal-El."

Superman regarded the robot that stood before him with some shock. "Help you do what, exactly?"
"Restore Krypton."
"Krypton is dead. Not even I can bring back a planet."
"I do not propose resuscitation of the dead. I propose the reshaping of Earth in Krypton's image. Listen to me! The Fortress of Solitude has the templates for Krypton's great wonders. The Golden Volcano, the Scarlet Jungle, and with some work we could even restore Kandor! Earth can be made so much better than it is now."
Superman eyed the machine skeptically. "And what about the Earthlings who already live here?"
"They will be eradicated, naturally. No Earthling was ever on Krypton, Kal-El."

That word...
"The Fortress reprogrammed you for this mission. What was your original designation and programmer?"
"I was named the Eradicator by my creator Zor-El. My function is to preserve Kryptonian life and see that it survives with its purity intact."

Superman took a step backwards. He didn't know how or why, but the Fortress had just handed the Eradicator one of the most powerful weapons of the planet. "And if I refuse your offer?"
"Do not be preposterous. However, in the unlikely scenario you refuse this offer, I would be forced to eradicate you. There is a city of Kryptonians still in the Phantom Zone, and they would be as suitable as you are."

Clark clenched his teeth. He couldn't fight the Eradicator, even this apparently old version of the program, at his current level of strength. Accepting the offer was out of the question. He had no chance against the Eradicator, but he knew what had to be done. "I won't let you kill six billion people, Eradicator."

"That is most unfortunate, Kal-El. It will take the other Kryptonians years to reach your level of power." The robot's eyes glowed a hot, angry red, and it began walking towards him.

A black arrow flew through the crowd singling out one ninja as he ran for Arsenal, what followed was larger and far more substantial.
The woman slammed her foot into his face as she decended, her long black hair streaming behind her, small dropletsa of blood settled on her black outfit as she flipped and landed next to Arsenal. Flicking open her bo staff she made a sweeping arc clearing a foothold before turning to him.

"Are you just going to stand around all day?" She demanded through her black mask before turning and throwing a punch at an onrushing ninja.

"Was hopin you'd make it, sweet doll. What took ya so long? Ready to go back to back and take down these Foot Soldier wannabes?"

Roy ripped off a piece of his shirt and wrapped the leather around the cut on his hand, then pulled out his crossbow, and loaded it with four bolts. As he fired, each of those bolts found the shoulder blade of one of the ninjas.

"Ya comin, or not hotstuff?"

She moved quickly clothes lining one as he came at her, before spinning and pressing her back to Arsenals own.

"Call me that again, and you're in for it. Understand, Red?" She said as she sent flying four of her own arrows, taking out the shoulders of two ninjas.

She reached back farther and pulled out one of his, it's red color standing out against her black montage. She aimed it over the crowd facing her and let it loose, midair it opened spreading a thin, but firm netting over the crowd of ninjas.

"Only four? You're losing your touch." She said picking up five and shooting them off, catching five Ninja's in the leg.

"Copy that sugar buns." Roy said with a wink as he holstered the crossbow and unfolded his composite. From his quiver he started grabbing his special arrows. Three seconds and his right hand moving almost inperceptively fast and there were eight loud explosions, a sonic screech and a cloud of knockout gas as ten of his arrows found their marks, clearing a path for Roy and the woman to get out of the crowd.

"Come on babe, they called me Speedy for a reason... hate to say it though but my quiver's almost spent."

She reached farther and gave him a little slap on the head, before pulling more arrows from her quiver and firing them off.

"That was just a taste." She commented.

She reached back and felt only one arrow left, firing it off she slung her bow over her frame and pulled out her bo staff.

"I thought you got that name for another reason...hate to agree with you but my quiver is gone. "

"OW! Hey, no need to get violent, I ain't Deathstroke or somethin...."

Roy dropped his bow, and unholstered his pistols again. Reaching to his belt he grabbed off his gas pellets.

"... it WASN'T BECAUSE OF THE DRUGS!!! Jebus, will I never live that down? Or wait... were you making an innuendo? Cause after all this is said and done you could find out luscious. On that note though, I do have other toys to play with, how bout some cover so we can get to high ground?"

Roy shot the gas pellets, and a cloud of smoke went up giving them all the more time to get away from the ninjas.
