Vril Dox was a Coluan scientist. At some point, he cloned himself to get a lab assistant; the clone would later be called Vril Dox II. He acquired a spaceship and went on a journey through space, acquiring knowledge and using his robotic drones to capture living organisms of various alien species. Along the way, he came to Krypton some time during the lifetime of General Zod, and kidnapped the entire city of Kandor, miniaturizing it in his spaceship. He also created a remote scout unit, which was programmed to think it was the original Vril Dox.

Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar. One to explain what you plan to do with the character you've chosen. The other to explain why you've chosen this character. (i.e. What are your goals? Will you be doing anything different with the character than is usually seen?): Brainiac has always been an intriguing character in my mind, I find his lack of emotion and cold, logical approach to situations strangely appealing. As for what I plan to do with the character, I read the end of an RPG a few years back and would like to see Brainiac back as a cool headed puppet master in the DC universe who holds all the cards.

The main control room was dark and lifeless, rows upon rows of Brainiac's drone bodies lay in the collections of stasis chambers lining the cold, grey walls around a raised central platform that housed the main command grid, above the stasis chambers were walls of video screens, each would respond to neural commands from the sentient computer and display whatever it chose.

Brainiac's vessel was built like a mobile fortress, constructed using the wealth of unique knowledge of millions of different species it had assimilated over untold centuries and as a result possessed capabilities few species had even begun to contemplate.

The original Brainiac 1.0 program lay inside an android body that sat leaning in a high backed, curved chair in the middle of the central platform, the three blue diodes set into its head glowed with a bright flash and every light in the room flared into life, the previously blank screens crackled and fizzed as walls of white noise shifted into video footage of the outside of the ship. Metropolis Park or Superman memorial Park as it was now known blared into the ship.

As it sat back into the control chair, Brainiac felt a set of three thin wires snake into the back of its neck, its eyes glowed a soft sapphire blue as it began to manipulate the harvester controls of the ship. Setting the parameters with a wave of its hands, Brainiac felt a dull, ominous thud shake the room as the first of the syphoning tubes buried itself into the Earth.
Brainiac allowed itself the merest smile of satisfaction, it knew the cost of trying to assimilate Earth once again however despite its supposed lack of emotions, the android seemed to relish its encounters with the last kryptonian.

Alright, it's been over a week since the IC thread started. I'm waiving the 24 hour rule, except in the case of someone applied for a character recently dropped.

App looks good, sample is okay, and I'm assuming you went back and read where Brainiac was lasted used.

As such, you are....

The last time Brainiac was used, he had possessed Doomsday's body during the final battle in the Dark Alliance arc at the end of season 6. Superman then tackled him through a Boom Tube and threw him into the supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy, which was supposed to be his killed-off-once-and-for-all-this-time moment.

However, given that Brainiac is a sentient AI, I don't see why he couldn't have a backup somewhere.

I just want to say that I had Andy C.'s permission to break into his home and abuse his dog. Also, he said it was okay for Grodd to do what he did.

It has been a really weird week/weekend for me. I start school on Tuesday, but have noooo plans tomorrow night, and now that everything's pretty much figured out as far as where Talia is and what's gonna happen (oi vey!) I will have a post up no later than tomorrow night. I know, I make excuses ALL the time, but I really do want to write her post. It was the matter of getting the right setting and the right words for it in muh brain. <3

Sorry for no activity thus far. I've been juggling like 3 different writing things simultaneously, and 2 are still hanging over my head and need done before I can focus on anything else. I'll try and jump back in when I can.

Don't sweat it, Soze, it's all good. Well, it's all good until you let a few more weeks go by without posting. Then we might have a problem. :cmad:

This is WoH's last season, and as such, I want to introduce a new feature here right now.

The "World of Heroes" DC RPG: Greatest Hits

From now until the end of the season, I'll be combing through the past eight seasons and highlighting some of the best posts and moments from the past.

First up is one of the first posts I read when I was preparing to join the RPG at the end of season IV.

After a long back and forth with Superman, Spike's Parasite had finally accomplished an unthinkable feat: Superman was dead. After realizing what he had done, Spike's last Parasite post had the man known as Rudy Jones dealing with his guilt and shock.

"Can I get ya a refill, mack?"

Bibbo Bibbowski stood behind the bar, drying a glass mug as he spoke to the last customer of the night in what was left of the Ace O' Clubs. The customer in question was a large man, hunched over the bar, holding his head in his hand with a lit cigarette held between his index and middle finger. A half-empty glass of beer was off to his side.

"No."

Bibbo placed the mug back onto the rack behind him and sighed heavily. "Supes' dyin' prob'ly is the worst thing that can happen to a burg like this, but trust me, I know from experience;" the former prize fighter turned to face the man, "We gotta keep ourselves going."

It's not that easy.

The man lifted his head up and put his cigarette between gritted teeth. His eyes were red from tears, but his expression was riddled with hate.

Hate for himself and the world he had to live in.

He left a large pile of bills on the bar before standing up and walking out. When he had first began doing the Unity's dirty work, the boss had set up a bank account with unlimited funds, to be used if and when money would be necessary. That account was still active today, and would have probably come in handy to him, if he had chosen to use it after today. Before walking away, he grabbed his glass of beer resting on the bar and raised it towards the poster of Superman displayed on Bibbo's wall.

Cheers Clark. I hope you found the peace in death that I could never find in life.

He downed the drink and set the glass down. He nodded a silent 'thank you' to the bartender before walking out. Stepping outside, Rudy Jones could see rescue crews trying to find their way through the smoldering remnants of the jungle that the Suicide Slum had become hours before. It actually was a miracle that the Ace O' Clubs was even standing. All three walls of it, that is. Could it actually have been God trying to give him a small sanctuary?

Rudy breathed smoke a final time and then put the butt out underneath of his boot. He rooted his hand through his jacket pocket for a moment, making certain that he still carried the instrument for which he had come to the Slum in the first place for. Satisfied, he began his long march into the burning field.

Almost thirty minutes later, Jones stopped walking and looked around him. Several emergency helicopters were in the air, fire trucks were littered in the distance, but he was alone enough for his needs. He had always been alone.

"I set out to kill what was left of my greatest enemy, and I thought I finally did it," he again searched his pocket, "but I was wrong. I'm still here." He pulled the gun from his jacket and looked down at it. Shining and black, it was heavier than he thought it should be. He wasn't sure if he'd actually die today. In human form, his abilities were greatly diminished, hopefully enough. He knew that nobody would recognize the body that he was now assuming the likeness of, and nobody would ever miss Raymond Maxwell Jones.

My path of death and hate ends here. With me.

Rudy raised the weapon into his open mouth.

I guess today really was the first day of the rest of my life.

When the lone gunshot echoed through the Suicide Slum, nobody cared.

Stick a fork in me, ladies. I'm done.

Great ****, man. I caught up with Spike and got his thoughts on that post in particular, and to provide some context. Here's what he had to say:

Spike said:
Christ, has it really been four years since I wrote that thing? That's nuts. This might be a long-winded slice of me that I'm about to dish out...

I guess I had been writing the Parasite for roughly four seasons at that point, and felt that I had told all the stories that I wanted to tell with the character. And LibrarianThorne and I came up with the idea that we'd take the rivalry between Superman and the Parasite to the absolute limit, which just happened to end with both of them dying. I don't recall if that was the end result we'd always had in mind from the beginning, but that's how we ended up. Now, I'm usually against the idea of just killing off your character when you're done with it, taking the opportunity to play him or her away from any potential future player. In the Parasite's case, though, I feel that it was the natural reaction for him in that situation.

Not that I'm advocating cleaning your tonsils with a gun. AT ALL.

Allow me to give some context for his decision. For Rudy Jones... a guy who had gleefully killed untold hundreds of people in his career... he was actually starting to find a sense of remorse and a conscience in the months leading up to this post. He even had a baby daughter that he left in the care of Kitty Faulkner at STAR Labs and was as surprised as anyone at his affection for the infant. Yes, he was discovering that senseless violence wasn't all he was good for... and then he fell back into old habits and killed the icon of hope for the DC Universe. Superman's murder was the event that made Rudy realize just how evil a creature he truly was, so he took matters into his own hands to solve that problem.

Now, about the whole "diminished abilities in human form" thing (in case you weren't around back then and/or can't remember), I'll save the backstory and sum it up by saying that he could now shapeshift into a human body and willfully water down his powers so that he could experience touching someone without hurting anyone in that form. It also meant his healing powers were reduced, although I tried to leave that up to the reader to wonder if they were diminished enough to let him die, or if Rudy survived and is still lurking around Metropolis somewhere to this day. Still, the fact that his internal monologue keeps moving forward even after he's pulled the trigger in that post always struck me as possibly meaning something important, although even I haven't come to a conclusion on that.

Four years later, I still debate with myself on rare occasions about whether I want to take up the character again or leave well enough alone. I know that every so often I get hints (subtle ones and not so subtle ones) from players that Rudy would be welcomed back with open arms to WoH, but I remain indecisive about the idea, and I suppose the window of opportunity won't be around much longer. We'll see.

Hope you do manage to come back, Spike, even if it's for a little while.

Look for more greatest hits as the seasons goes on.

Yes, I did just [BLACKOUT]bomb Arkham[/BLACKOUT]. And for those of you who want to deal with the Royal Flush Gang in Central City, here's the basics of their powers.

King/Queen - Early Jean Grey/Marvel Girl level telekinesis each, they get considerably more power when in contact with each other.

Jack - Jessie Quick level superspeed, has a tenuous connection with the speed force.

Ten - Highly skilled martial artist, also has ability to attract and distract males that can see her.

Ace - Expert swordsman, think slightly weaker Taskmaster.

Feel free to abuse and humiliate them, just remember, they [BLACKOUT]are currently involved in a gang war with the Rogues.[/BLACKOUT]

J'adore, Green Arrow might be a bit busy, seeing as how he's probably dealing with Krypto, who's tearing his city apart.

Pfft. Knowing Ollie, he'll just call the mutt a Nazi sympathizer and shoot a boxing glove arrow at him.

Given something like Arkham blowing up is something people should notice let me remind everyone--and I will make an OOC tag when I do my next Jason post--that the Bruce/Jason/Damian stuff that has just happened is in the "past" of the current timeline everyone else is in.

So that's why you won't be seeing my acknowledge Arkham's Explosion.

I saw, and I can't say that it doesn't please me.

Damn people. I just got caught up last night and now I'm way behind again! This is like 2 weeks of activity last season.

I was used to being lazy!!! :cmad:

Everyone gets excited right at the beginning. It'll peter out eventually. :P

*refrains from dirty joke involving peters being out*

Goddamnit, son of a ***** mother****er...alright, look. I know I've had quite the track record of picking up characters lately only to disappear. I used to hate people that did that so much.

But the fact is, when I wasn't playing and was really busy, I used to tell myself that I would play when I had the time. Then, when I had the time, I would rush to play even though I had the time but not the drive.

This time I'm going to go ahead and start fresh, that is to say if you guys let me. I'm going to apply for this one character and do my best to just apply for **** I know I can handle and keep up enthusiasm for.

So here it is. Also, if everything goes to **** and I disappear again, blame Shlee :cmad:

The "World of Heroes" DC RPG Season IX Application

Character you would like to play (please include the color and font you plan on using to portray the character): Zachary Zatara

Powers and Brief Origin (provide at least two sentences) If you copy/paste this information from another website, link back to it, or it is considered plagiarism and is not allowed. :

Zachary Zatara is the younger, reckless cousin of the sorceress Zatanna. Being a Homo Magi like his aunt, Zatara possesses various magical powers. Along with intimate knowledge of the arcane, Zatara's main ability is to speak incantations backwards and have them happen. However, unlike his aunt, he is not powerful enough to have these spells affect living beings.

Zach was never the hero type and instead used his powers to become one of the most famous and successful magicians in the world. He had it all; money, women, power, women, and women. He also had a bunch of women.

But in a series of death defying adventures that included battling the Dark Alliance, facing The Joker, rescuing his teammates from Neron's grasp (with whom he still has an unrevealed deal), Zachary Zatara became a fiercely loyal, valuable and incredibly irritating member of the Teen Titans.

Group your character is aligned with (if applicable): Teen Titans

I plan on doing what I was doing when I left off with Zach. Developing him as a person who slowly learns how to be a hero. Also, smart money's on me delving back into the deal he made with Neron since this is the final season.

"...anyway, after that I felt kind of...lost for a while. I don't know, it's not that I was ready to have a kid. Hell to the no. And as spicy hot as Rose is, I'd rather not have to watch out for blades every time we'd have a fight. In short, I'm glad Tim is the father. God knows he'd be better at it than me."

I've been standing here for the last twelve minutes pouring my heart out. I can see the look my confidante's eyes. Those beautiful, brown eyes. Such a great listener. Any time I feel down I know I can come here. I know I'm safe.

I give a shy smile. God, he's beautiful.

"Now, being an uncle? That's something I can do. I can teach the kid to pick up ladies. Like the one we did in the Bahamas? Remember her? God, what was her name?"

My mind takes me back to a time where I didn't get shot at as much as I do now. "Sandra? Sandrine? Damnit, what was it..."

"Zach! Get your butt down here!"

I snap back and look back at my confidante. "Hey, man, I gotta go. Thanks for listening. Stay beautiful, beautiful."

"Rorrim raeppasid!"
