There has been a ton of speculation about a potentially major signing for WWE over the past few weeks. They have been courting the Olympic gold medal winning amatuer wrestler,
Gable Steveson, and even flew him in to be featured in a quick segment on Summerslam. When his brother was announced to have signed with WWE NXT, many assumed Gable would be close behind, and pen has finally been put to paper.
Gable Steveson Signs With WWE
This news was first confirmed by Figure Four Online, who caught wind that when Gable Steveson tweeted “Just put pen to paper.” earlier on Saturday, it was to do with a WWE deal. He was in talks with Vince McMahon himself, and also UFC owner Dana White. However, Vince got to talk in person, which certainly might have helped push Gable in the direction of WWE.
There is still a chance he seeks out a dual career in
MMA & Pro Wrestling, and certainly has the base to succeed in both, but WWE seems to be the focus starting out. Gable Steveson will likely have to start on the NXT brand, perhaps as one of it’s premiere stars as it enters a new era very soon. He’s a young and very promising athlete, and potentially the ‘Wrestlemania main eventer’ type they are looking for with their new approach to NXT.
Wanting To Be The Next Kurt Angle
Gable Steveson has been pretty vocal on Twitter about his love for WWE, claiming that he wants to be the next Kurt Angle. That would mean having to top the greatest rookie year in professional wrestling to start out. Angle is a high bar to reach, but the background is certainly there to get Steveson to this level.
We could at the very least see him and his brother
Bobby Steveson fill the American Alpha shaped void in WWE. Having Chad Gable be their mentor into the world of WWE would give him something interesting to do again. There is some great potential here, and Gable Steveson could be one of the names WWE has main eventing in a few years.
