The Wrestling Thread has much larger nipples

The Cody/Drew contract signing was the standard format for these things, with the inevitable table spot to close it out, but the content of what they said was good, talking about their parallel journeys away from WWE, but Cody pointing out that his was a personal choice, where as Drew got let go, and then Drew pushing the "Corporate Cody" angle that Cody retorted with "Nice guys used to finish last, then I came along." Good stuff from both guys, and Drew goading Cody into the stip that Cody can lose the title if he's DQ'd or counted out, was far more intriguing than just another anything goes match.

I'm watching the World Series, but I'm hearing Ilja and Nathan Frazer put on an absolute banger of a match. I'm gonna have to watch that.

Really good match, I can see Dragunov is going to become a main highlight of Smackdown, and they've lined up Axiom, Ciampa and Gargano as challengers over the next few weeks.

Melo vs Kit Wilson featured one of my biggest pet peeves in modern wrestling, Wilson hits a really unique DDT, something that could have been a new finisher, and instead it's a throwaway 2 count mid match. Whoever was the agent for the match should have blocked that, and if they don't intend on pushing Wilson (they don't) give the move to someone else and make it a big deal.

Alexa vs Nia was a fun match, worked smartly, interesting that the face won via heel tactics, I'm guessing Nia will be getting a tag partner soon, maybe Lash from NXT.

Giulia vs Chelsea should be good next week.

I just tuned in to SNME to see that dastardly villain
Cody Rhodes
retain

They worked a pretty smart match, Drew was arguably so preoccupied with getting Cody DQ'd or counted out, that it cost him.

Tiffany bumped her ass off to try and make Jade look good, WWE gotta try to make something work given her contract.

There's some fun creativity around these finishes to keep the IC title on the Dirtster. :D

Punk vs Jey was way better than I thought it would be, they worked their asses off, and it helped of course that both are so over that the crowd was with them every step of the way. Punk winning was the right call, he can now have a title program with Bron, and Jey has mire fuel for his growing frustration.

It was announced that there will be a 16 man tournament to decide John Cena's final opponent. He mentioned it will include superstars from Raw, Smackdown, NXT, and maybe some people who don't work here. I'm gonna take that last bit to mean we might get a couple of TNA guys. Most notably Joe Hendry whose been calling Cena out, and maybe a Leon Slater.

Until I see the brackets I can't make a guess or prediction on the winner.

The tournament starts Monday Nov 10th in Boston

Dom is great, and that was a damn good match for Jey.

I think this is a pretty unique way of doing it, certainly a different type of build, the way Cena said it could be someone who doesn't work here, made me think of Edge, but as you say, it's likely to be TNA guys.

His IC title run has became one of the highlights of the year, and that was arguably the best singles match I've seen Jey have.

Based on the announcement, and the people shown during it, these are my guesses for the tournament:

Sheamus
Rusev
Penta
Melo
LA Knight
Bronson Reed
Joe Hendry
Gunther
Trick Williams
Ricky Saints
The Miz
Solo Sikoa
Drew McIntyre
Nic Nemeth
Matt Cardona
Oba Femi

Cody took a risk coming back to the WWE with no guarantee it would be better than what he was when he left, but it was worth the risk as he's the face of the company now, the top guy who has at least 7 or 8 more world title reigns before calling it a career.

Jade didn't get this far in AEW. A heel turn had to happen though before she won the Championship. She's the least polished ring-wise of the four but she has everything else.

Ricky's run in NXT had been a bit bland because of the lack of depth in NXT on the Men's Division, which hasn't really improved all that much and will get worse if Oba Femi and Trick Williams get called up. He's friends with both Punk and Cody, so he's unlikely to get buried on the main roster. My pick on who dethrones Ricky will be Je'von Evans, although recent appearances on Smackdown might be a test.

Punk has been much happier in his second WWE run and that is because the WWE locker room is more professional than AEW. His wife is now back in the fold too.

So Nemeth is interesting. He has expressed no interest in being a part of the crossover between NXT and TNA but has called it a positive. He did say at one point that if the WWE came calling and asked him to do a match against Randy Orton he would consider it. The fact that Matt Cardona came back in NXT and had a match in NXT means that it's possible we see him in this as he has history with Cena, which I think should be brought up.

A positive of the crossover with TNA has been acknowledgement by the WWE of the WWE pasts of various TNA wrestlers. Recently, they had the Battle Royal for the #1 contender for the Women's Championship won by Tatum Paxley and there was this spot where TNA's Mara Sade and NXT's Lash Legend were near the ropes and Lash attempted to get Sade back into the ring, with Vic Joseph mentioning their history. Both were eliminated when they hugged each other (which the crowd popped for). They also mentioned Cardona's history in WWE. When they brought back Mustafa Ali, Ali himself mentioned he was in line for a North American Championship match before he was fired by WWE. They mentioned the WWE pasts of Zack Wentz, The Inspiration, JDC and even played Santino Marella's WWE theme whenever he shows up.
