The WTF Moments Of Spider-Man 3

You know this is the 80th time weve been let down like this before, alot of Marvel films are overhyped, so that us stupid fans will just keep throwing money away. With Arad calling fans 'idiots' and the amusement park move to the United Arab Emirates, Im kinda getting the feeling that maybe Marvel doesnt like us.

Good thing movie tickest around here are just like US$2.50:woot:

Only four WTF's...and I did like the movie:

1. Did someone at Sony tell Raimi he had to put Venom in the movie after the script was already written? Venom was toally removable from the plot. And it's obvious he did it grudgingly.

2. Venom killing innocents? That's totally unlike the character.

3. Eddie at the church to ask God to kill Peter? What was wrong with the suicide storyline?

4. Peter randomly going into the church and randomly figuring out that sound hurts the symbiote?

to be honest, although much derided, i thought the dance scene was one of the few scenes in this misguided (not bad, just, to quote kermode, a MESS) film that worked well. The birth of sandman scene was one of the best uses of CGI i have ever scene, really it was fantatsic. Other than that, very little worked.

A HUGE dissapointment after spidey 2 - the fault lies exclusively and only with the scipt

On topic - did anyone else laugh loud at the quick shot of willem dafoe's alternate -screaming-portrait? meant to be creepy, just stupid!

2. Venom killing innocents? That's totally unlike the character.

Actually, that's exactly like the character.

4. Peter randomly going into the church and randomly figuring out that sound hurts the symbiote?

He didn't figure it out at that moment. He went to the church because he needed a quite place to think. When he tried to rid himself of the symbiote, he bumped the bell only by accident. Only later he realized that it wasn't brute force that got rid of the symbiote, but sonic vibrations, as seen in the bell tower flashback.

the british reporter at the battle royale...as Sandman's hammer starts to pound down on Spiderman as Venom holds him down...and then...
"It's really...hard...to watch whats happening"

This part made me sink in my seat a little...WTF!?

OK...I shouldn't have said it as an absolute. But Venom did detest the killing of innocent people.

but you know what? of the three spiderman films, it will be the most discussed. Like The Phantom Meance, there was so much potential for a good film in there, they just got mutated into a weird mess/

People (or at least, I) dont discuss perfect films as much as flawed ones.

This brings up another point:

A crazy looking pschopath covered in alien goo and a giant sand monster are fighting Spider-man and people are 100 feet away with their KIDS shouting "Go, Spidey! Yay!"!?!

Um, no. Venom REALLY loves killing innocents... unless you're talking about the terrible "in the ghetto" era.

Anyway, WTF moments: Pretty much everything except Bruce Campbell and the Harry/Peter fight near the beginning (which, of course we'd all seen before going to the cinema). Most of the rest left me really pissed off and definitely thinking "WTFingF!"

I think the Battle Royale with NO people around at all, no reporters, no annoying kids, would've been so much serious.

D!

Seriously, tell me what they could have done at that point? In fact, what would you do if you were in their situation?

Is that a serious question? Well, first off, what is with their behavior? They both saw with the camera Gwen hanging for dear life and what did they do? They just talked right there and didn't immediately call for help. Gwen's Dad is a police captain for god's sake, he should acted quickly after seeing Gwen and not chatted with Brock.

He should have called for the fire department people and tell them his daughter's in danger or he should gone up the building himself and do something to save her as a loving father but no, he just waited there and hear Eddie talk B.S.

And for Eddie, he likes Gwen so much but he didn't do anything too which is shocking to me and he didn't even show some caring emotion. At least he should have said something like "OMG, it's Gwen, we should do something."

And what would I do in the same situation[hope to God it doesn't happen]? If I've seen a friend like in Gwen's situation, first of all I would have been shocked or be like very worried [unlike those two above]...and call the authorities for help.

How about you? What would you do in the same situation? What would be your first reaction? I bet it wouldn't be like Brock's and Capt. Stacy's.

So that's why it's a WTF moment for me. :wow: They just stood there. The father who's a police captain and the boyfriend just stood there. Their behavior was very insensitive, apathetic, indifferent, uncaring...so how could you not say WTF?!? :wow:

when was this?

when harry sees his dad in the mirror and makes the evil face, there's a really fast edited montage, and one of the shots is of the Norman osbourne portrait with its mouth open in a "screaming" pose

I've just made it sound a million times better than it is!

i hate how Spider-Man always takes his frickin' mask off while he's fighting. i hate that! there's spectator's watching for christ sake!

When a lady at Spider-Man day on the stage grabs her head with her hands and shakes it side to side when Gwen announces Spider-Man.

HAHAHA, after reading all these posts I was thinking to myself, you know i thoroughly enjoyed the film and I didnt have a WTF moment, until you mentioned this.

I distinctly remember this scene, she grabbed her head and shaked it side to side with a :wow: WTF :wow: expression on her face. Honestly, it really was a WTF moment for me.

D!

Just another example of how the movie was forced to kid audience.

I didn´t even noticed how the mask came off in the battle royale :oldrazz:

edit:

but he always end up finding it again :oldrazz: it must have some kind of trakind device... o wait, another use of the spider sense

Wait wait. Are you gonna tell me you don't have your 'own' church where you usually go? (if you are religious or not, doesn't matter, you get the point).

Besides, it was in the comics. If that part of the film wasn't like this, then you'll be complaining about not being completely true to the origin of Venom.

What are you all complaining about now?

D!

First of all, I can buy that this is Brock's church. What I cannot buy is that Peter- as Spidey- went to the first church he could find with a high tower (he didn't know about what the bells would do in this story, unlike in the comics where Reed Richards told him sonic waves hurt the symbiote, so the only reason I can assume he went to the tower in the movie was because it was high up and seemed empty at that time of night) and it just so happened to be Eddie Brock's church, where Eddie Brock was downstairs in the middle of the night asking God to kill Parker. This is not one, but several coincidences!

And in the comics, by the way, Brock wasn't at the church. The Symbiote slinked off and FOUND Brock. So this version wasn't true to Venom's origin-- But then NONE of this was, and that's why I think Venom should never have been in the movie at all. I hate Venom, and just about everything else spawned from the Secret Wars (except maybe Arachne) and always thought he was a lazy, stupid, one-dimensional character, so his origin means nothing to me.

Doc Ock was robbing the biggest bank in town. Aunt May was at the biggest bank in town to get a loan. These things, while coincidence, make some sense. Eddie Brock wandering into a church into the middle of the night to pray for Peter's death is not a logical step for the character, didn't happen in the comics, and made no real sense. It was just a convenient way to get the costume onto him.

They should make a new cut without ANY Venom in it. I bet it would make a little more sense right away.

Thats why I still think the final fight between Goblin and Spiderman in the first movie is still the best. That fight was dark, brutal. When you saw that pumpkin bomb explode in Peter's face, you knew it wasn't going to be some cookie cutter superhero fight.

lol. yeah, that lady went over the top with the acting. :D

When I first saw the scene where symbiote takes over Eddie I thought it looked excellent even though it wasn't true to the comics. But after sitting through all the guff beforehand in the cinema it lost all it's cool-points. By that point I just wanted it to get on with it.

I think the crowd and reporters were necesary... but focusing on them wasn´t, we didn´t need anyone narating the thing to us, we had a better viewing spot that them :oldrazz:

Maybe the thing with JJJ and the girls was good, I laughed a lot... the rest was unnecesary

My WTF moment was...the entire 2.5 hours of the movie, and why the eff I hyped over it for 3 years. So much WTF happened in Spider-Man 3 that I now like SM 1 and 2 less, and they used to be 2 of my favorite movies ever. Raimi dropped the ball and here's to hoping he doesn't attempt a SM4.

Mine was the absence of a kickass cgi web-slinging scene at the end like the first 2 films had. I always loved that part of these movies.

Any idea why there was none? Money? Time? Laziness? :(

If they're not going to hint at a future villain, at least let Spidey do his 30s web-slinging sequence to mark the end of the film/trilogy.. and they should've extended it to a full minute since this might've been the last time the original cast would be together.
