Forza 5 on Games with Gold. Awesome game to be getting free!!

^ I would hope, so......lol.

I also can't wait until we get ACO footage from the PS4 Pro, so they can run comparison vids of that vs the X version. same with Shadow of War.

ROTR is a few years old now.

let's see what the new games will look like.

SotTR too. That's not too far off is it?

Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

^oh, that.

has that even been officially confirmed yet, though?

I thought it was just a rumor based off a possible retail leak or something.

since it hasn't been officially announced, I think that game is still a ways off.

it could come in 2018, but most likely during the latter half ( might get E3 reveal ).

unless it gets revealed during the rest of this year, then maybe a Summer 2018 release?

Oh right, didn't realise it wasn't even confirmed. :(

hopefully it becomes official soon.

anyways, looks like we don't have to wait for the Forza 7 Demo to get some S vs X comparisons.

DF just put out a Halo Wars 2 vid, comparing the X, reg X1, and PC versions.

And the article.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-halo-wars-2-xbox-one-x-hands-on

I just read the article and watched the vid on my PC. I'll watch it again in 4K on my tv later tonight.

but my first impression is that I can't tell much of a difference?

if you look at the side by side pics in the article, you can tell the X version is clearer/sharper than the reg X1 version.

but in the vid, it didn't seem that apparent.

also, as prefaced by the article, this is based of an early build of Halo Wars 2 on the X, so it's not the finished product. maybe the differences will be clearer with the final product?

How much was the difference to the pc version?

from what I saw in the comparison pics, the X looked fairly close to the PC version.

ok, watched the Halo Wars vid on my 4K tv, and the differences are a bit more noticeable.

I think there's no doubt the X will prove to be a serious upgrade over the S. and it's nice you can get near equivalent PC quality on a console.

still, though, the question will be is it worth the extra $500 for existing X1/S owners. And is it worth $500 for PS4/Pro owners to jump ship.

those are the questions consumers will be faced with.

I can't imagine the X would compare with the best pcs out there but hopefully can hold its own against half decent ones.

And as for the price I imagine a lot of Xbox guys will be trading in either their OG or their S to mitigate the cost a bit.

true.

it will be interesting to see how well the X sells, and what percentage of current Xbox owners upgrade.

I think most of them will when the price comes down after a couple of years, although it depends if there is any news of next gen by then which may cause people to wait for whatever that is.

that's also a good point.

guess that's the downside to these "mid-gen refresh" consoles ( though the Pro and the X are disrupting the traditional gen cycles ).

in a few years, by 2019, I wouldn't be surprised if we are at least hearing the 1st rumblings of the PS5. It may even release in 2019, who knows.

May even get word of the next Xbox in 2019, though I think the X may push that back another year to 2020.

but that's the risk with these mid-gen consoles. the longer you wait, the closer you are to the next gen of consoles.

I'm sure we'll start hearing rumbling about a PS5 at least by 2019. They will continue to make a lot of money from PS4s but I doubt they want to give up the power advantage for too many years.

agreed.

and I don't want Playstation to give up the power advantage for too long either.....lol.

in fact, I'm kind of counting on Sony to top and exceed whatever the X can do with the PS5.

I'm remaining loyal to Sony and skipping Xbox, but I'm not going to lie and say the X's power isn't attractive.

so I wouldn't mind if we get the PS5 in 2019, or at least the reveal of it.

The PS5 will surely knock the X out of the park. It's just a question of whether it also takes out the X's successor.

yeah. next gen will be more interesting and more competitive I think.

I doubt MS will make the same mistakes they made with the Xbox One.

Sony has a comfortable, dominant lead this gen. and I don't think that will change even with the X.

but they can't take that for granted going into next gen.

I do wonder if both the PS5 and next Xbox will release the same year like the PS4 and X1 or if they will be staggered in different years.

if it's staggered, then I can see whoever releases later will try to "one up" the other.

Could see Xbox trying that as they also get another year of their later released X that way, and also might want to maintain the power advantage.

As thing stand Sony will have the advantage with the larger install base and better existing franchise exclusives. Xbox threw away the work of the original Xbox and 360 in getting to a strong situation particularly in the US, with the totally stuffed up X1 launch. Sony just need to make sure all the idiots are banished from the building when it comes to planning their launch and they will be favourites again, and also.. don't hire Don Mattrick!! (that goes for any company)

lol.....yeah.

or that "Deal with it" guy.

one thing I hope Sony does is make PS5 at least BC with PS4 games.

that's one area where I applaud MS, and fault Sony.

there are quite a few classic PS1, PS2, and PS3 games I'd like to replay ( or play for first time ), but I don't want to buy and hook up multiple systems to do that.

in fact, I applaud a lot of what MS has been doing to turn around the Xbox - it's one reason why I was always attracted to the X1 and why I gave it so many chances ( but no more......lol ).

but MS really shot themselves in the foot with the reveal and launch of the X1. and they've just never been able to recover since.

indeed, I think the Xbox One reveal and launch will go down in the video game history books as one of the most disastrous. and a good example of what NOT to do.

as you said, they practically threw away everything they gained with the 360 and lost the battle this gen before it even started.

but Sony has to be careful, too. because they have proven in the past to NOT be immune to arrogance themselves.

Sony and PS guys would benefit more as they have a much bigger and better back catalogue. Having the original Xbox be BC was a plus though as many Xbox guys didn't have the original console. I think many switched over during 360, most of my Xbox friends did anyway. I think since Spencer took the wheel everything hardware and network/infrstructure wise has been on a golden run. Still need to see the results on the right kinds of exclusive games though. Will be pressure on next year's E3 in that respect IMO.
