yet, fast forward 2 years, and Devin praises the racechange casting even though that contradicts his assertion that you can't have a MJ who isn't a readhead - since Devin is aware of the set pics of Zendaya in character without redhair.
guess when that PC/SJW train comes rolling by, you have to jump on board
For one, this argument is based on the assumption that this MJ won't be a red-head at some point. One set of bts photos is really nothing to go by. Second, based on that article, he doesn't actually state that he's against characters having physical discrepancies from the source material (despite the clickbait title) only acknowledging that nerds get crazy-stupid over it, which we now know for a fact that they do.

That's what truly bothers me here. I'm not overly concerned with a POC playing MJ, but I can understand why some are. They're legitimate reasons that have nothing to do with "racism,"
But not that many. Some are worried about her hair, but a majority of the detractors are so because they hired a black actress.
obut people like Faraci and plenty of others seem to feel like they have to support and love it regardless
Or they could be legitimately supporting it. People act as if this is the first ever superhero movie that does it.
of anything else to avoid being branded bigots.
If you think people who are against this race-bending feel persecuted now, just wait until the premier near and Zendaya starts getting inundated with racist tweets. They’ll be deemed by the public and the press and sexist AND racist.
I think that's asinine and wholly unfair.
This whole thing is asinine. None of this should be a big deal, but for some reason it is.

If they want to stay faithful to the comic and have Iron Fist be white, then that's okay.

If they want to differ from the comic, and have Mary Jane be black, then that's also okay.

Side with one and you are branded a PC-SJW. Side with another and you are branded a racist.

I don't remember this much nerd rage back during the starter days of comic book movies. People were mostly happy with Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin, and the only people who complained about Kerry Washington playing Alicia Masters were the folks at Stormfront. Why this make people truly bothered, I'm not sure.

Stop trying to make this about race. The discussion that has been going on for pages is about how they are changing the character, not the colour of her skin

This. His post is like a bull in a china shop who barges in thinking he'll give his definitive rebuttal on the subject and put a stop to the "nonsense" when no-one has even been discussing that at all but plenty of other issues.

It's like what we got with FFINO and people making it about Johnny Storm being played by Michael B Jordan as if that was the sole problem of the movie and everything else was fine.

Getting Zendaya as MJ but then going out of their way to dress her down, make her look frumpy, avoid giving her the red hair and not calling her Mary Jane is like that episode of Sex and the City where Carrie wants to have sex with Mr Big and is attempting to seduce, but he can't see what's in front of him and is more interested to read her book she's written about him and point out different objections on different pages instead of living in the moment.

Bruh, how you know so much about sex and the city? That aint right, boy.

It was a well-written show with a good template for each episode: pose a question/ dilemma, use each character to debate the different points of view, have each go through a journey which challenges their point of view and then reassess their point of view at the end of the episode in light of their journey.

Marvel could've used that template here for this film by having different archetypes (instead of making nearly everyone seemingly a nerd/ geek) and show how each type responds to a moral question which underlies the whole movie both as the A plot and B plot; and then challenge those characters' viewpoints/ beliefs along the way.

Do we know for sure that "Michelle" isn't just a code name? I know she was called that at SDCC, but was it still for secrecy?

I'm more worried about Zendaya's acting. I had the misfortune of seeing Shake it Up.

we won't know for sure about the Michelle deal until we see a teaser/trailer/clip where we hear her actually being called Michelle.

I wouldn't really judge her based on Disney stuff. It's typically heightening yourself up in order to come across better to younger audiences.

As for the Michele/Michelle code name debacle, it's really not certain. I've always believed it was the moment she was cast close behind the likes of RDJ and such, but others always believed she was just Michelle/Michele. Michele being Michele Gonzales, a throwaway character that briefly dated Peter Parker in the comics but was nothing of any substance. Michelle being an original character that was made purposely/specifically for the films ala Rachel Dawes from Nolan's Batman series.

The only thing of real substance we've gotten, aside from set photos, was the big reveal if you will in regards to Eh Maybe 'leaking' Zendaya actually being MJ (Mary Jane Watson), where it was picked up by quite a bit of outlets (I think it was even posted by NBC news) only to be followed up by the likes of Devin Faraci and MarvelousRealm that she would not be Mary Jane Watson 'MJ' but MJ as in Michelle J___, essentially being the MJ of the series as we know it.

The whole thing is just a big mess. :oldrazz:

My post wasn't jut about this thread, but the nerd rage in general in regards to Zendaya's casting. Also, if this discussion was ONLY about changes to the character unrelated to race (like dowdy Michelle), then people wouldn't keep using the word "PC-SJW".

My guess is that Zendaya's character real name is Michelle, and that she changes it to the splashier Mary Jane once she has her model-makeover. Kind of like how Natalie Hershlag became Natalie Portman. A more apt Batman comparison would be turning Dick Grayson into Robin John Blake.

and that last part about the name would be truly awful. :csad:

Mary Jane/MJ isn't the character's stage name or celebrity name. It's her name, just like Peter Parker is the character's name.

Do anything else that's convoluted with the name and the character truly becomes MJINO ( Mary Jane In Name Only ).

You're probably right, but it's hard to get past the two emotions I've seen from her, that of "wooden" and "smug"

I really hope more things get cleared up on this. The secrecy is annoying at this point.

That's entirely possible, and I believe comparisons were made between 'Robin' John Blake and 'MJ' Michelle when it was first reported.

Definitely agree with you there.

Totally agree about this. And why use MJ if she's not even going to truly be Mary Jane Watson?

Also, who is in your avatar?

Christopher Daniel Barnes is still the undisputed and definitive spidey voice actor with Josh keaton coming in second then Rino Romano.
