Maybe she asks Peter "did you want me to have bright red hair?" and she puts on a bright clown-coloured wig. Then when he realises how silly that would look, she adds "face it Tiger, you've just hit the jackpot."

with those new set images featuring Spidey Carrying a mysterious redhead while webslinging and what not, I'm very keen Zendaya is not Mary Jane. Something's up since Marvel has never been this secret about the actor/actress of a supporting character before.

Yeah, this thread title was a bit premature. At least it should say Zendaya could be MJ (but not necessarily Mary Jane, as she could be Michelle Johnson).

There were atleast two scripts for this movie. One where Zendaya goes from Michele to MJ (original script which was later punctuated by Marvel, including where Revolori is Flash), one where Zendaya is just Michele (original one from John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein) with no MJ in movie at all and bunch of new characters like Revolori playing Manuel.

And there was a rumoured to be 3rd one, with Zendaya playing just Michele, Revolori playing Flash, but with MJ in the script playing by different actress.

I dont know if this was planned from beggining to be misdirection. Or Marvel by starting production didnt know or set which script they will use.


But ultimately as the effect we got this. It could be both what Umberto and Marvel were saying was the truth.

I think marvel didn't know which script to use, and decided late in production to bring in a Mysterious redheaded actress to play MJ...... or they kept it a secret without us knowing until now.

How do we know that this redhead isn't someone like Gwen Stacy or Felicia Hardy, both of whom are known for their distinctive red hair?

Because the actress could easily be one of them, but with the image of MJ. She might just have a different name slapped on her.

- Zendaya's mom liked a tweet about Zendaya being MJ.

- Zendaya's official website posted article about Zendaya being the black Mary Jane.

- Zendaya's official shoe line 'Daya' instagram account like a post about Zendaya being MJ.

Now I don't know if Zendaya is Mary Jane or Michelle J but she's MJ.

Hell for all we know Mary Jane could be in the movie as well as a Michelle J.

Which would lead more people to be more iffy about this particular decision.

If, like you said, Zendaya does turn out to be MJ, why don't they at least have her be a redhead? I'm fine with Zendaya playing her, but is it too much to ask that the character still have her visual defining trait?

Ignorance is the answer, that's why there is an irony here b/c Zendaya is considered a fashion chameleon, but Hollywood won't take advantage of that b/c they're ignorant. As soon as you racebent a character into a minority, Hollywood thinks that means red hair, blue eyes, green eyes, freckles etc all goes away b/c to them only white people can have those characteristics.

Zendaya's website can't announce something that Marvel has not... now if they want miss direction sure... but because an instagram account likes or shares a post. That means nothing. It just means they support the idea

But this still could mean that the actress is under wraps now that we know about a stunt double for MJ. It probably means the actress for her looks similar to the stunt double as most stunt doubles look similar to the actor they are the double for.

There's a gag order, I know that, I still remember, but who does the gag order apply to? Is it just Zendaya or Zendaya and her whole family and team or....

And a gag order still doesn't mean it's gonna stop her mom from liking tweets, or her official website from posting an article, or her official shoe line Instagram account from liking a post about Zendaya being MJ.

Why?

Because like you said it could be interpreted as just support instead of confirmation.

But one thing is clear, outlets haven't reported on any of the things I previously listed and that's b/c outside of stans/fans and a few others, no one is checking for Zendaya's mom or website or shoe account and that let's you know how much they could get away with and not get in trouble or rather get Zendaya in trouble.

Now if for some reason these accounts/website closely related to Zendaya posting/liking things about MJ means nothing despite there being legitimicy in it as support that Zendaya could be MJ, then fine I lose a few examples.

As I stated some months back, people on tumblr and twitter believed Zendaya was MJ just based on the fact that she was cast third, did a chemistry read with Tom, and that Marvel never officially confirmed who anybody was playing, so losing those 3 examples is nothing in comparison to those people holding on to those 3 examples as proof.

Well yeah of course they post all types of articles about Zendaya since it's her website, them posting a lot of articles doesn't negate that what I said. Since I mentioned them as an example b/c they probably shouldn't post anything relating to the character MJ as that could spur on rumors or get Zendaya in trouble.

It applies to zendaya... and anyone on her team who needs to know... actors constantly even often talk about having to keep roles secret from friends and family even... if Zendaya's family or team let slip who she's playing... Zendaya is fined for it... that's usually how gag orders work... spoilers are contained the best they can be and they are contractually obligated to keep those secrets

Yes, you're right. There's a mysterious unknown white actress hidden who is playing MJ. She will do no promotion, nobody will see her or hear about her except for the day the film will be released!!!

This is the best kept secret since Bigfoot and Elvis Presley is actually alive!!!!!!

This doesn't make any sense to me, they will have MJ in the movie but she may not be "the" MJ? This is like if they show Ned has an older brother also named Ned who becomes the Hobgoblin. I'm just tired of this nonsense to be honest, just release the first trailer and have Z call Peter tiger, so this endless speculating can stop.
