Homecoming The Zendaya is possibly someone, maybe thread - Part 2

But the most interesting question is... who is Michelle, and if she isn't MJ, what is the mystery? I'm just course correcting the speculation and the expectations. Matter of fact, PLEASE don't believe me or anyone else for that matter unless you have official confirmation from Marvel and Sony themselves, just be prepared to be surprised.

I've been wondering lately if she might actually be playing MJ's cousin and maybe that's where all the rumors and confusion came from. Like maybe someone saw on a list that the character's last name is Watson and assumed, "Oh, so she's playing Mary Jane then."

If that was the case it'd be all sorts of underwhelming, both for Spider-Man and Zendaya fans, isn't? It isn't that. Think MCU.

Do you think Marvel cares that much about Spider-Man fans, let alone Zendaya fans? come on, now.

They should. And I'm sure they do. Like they care about Holland's, RDJ's and etc. She is VERY powerful with the younger demographic. You don't get 32m Instagram followers out of nowhere. RDJ for example has 11.6m, Marvel itself has 8.6m. Do they care about Zendaya's fans? It's not an educated guess to say yes, it's literally obvious. She will sell tickets, and that's a good thing for every party involved. If Marvel Studios trust her to do the job she was tasked to, then I trust her.

I've never seen them cater to any actors' particular fan base, that includes Tom, RDJ, Evans and pretty much every MCU actor that has some sort of fan base.. And they don't care enough that they'll give her (or any actor) a big, important role just to appease her fan base. That's not a good way to cast your characters in any film ever. Most of them (the ones I follow) seemed to be perfectly fine with her playing Michelle: one of Peter's classmates before the MJ stuff happened.

Either way, these cryptic riddles are impossible to figure out.

And of course they don't cater for actors fanbases. Zendaya's popularity is an asset, just like Tom being a literal real life Spider-Man gymnast is an asset. It comes in handy. These films aren't made just for you, me and the Marvel fanboys. In fact, I'd argue that Marvel fanboy has gone mainstream ages ago.

As for riddles, there is none here. And those you think you see, they aren't supposed to be figured. They are supposed to be discussed. If any of you had said who she is playing, how could I know? Just get used to the idea of being surprised.

I don't see how it would be all sorts of underwhelming. A character who's a close friend to Peter and a relative/sister-like figure to MJ would be a sizable role I think.

I think I got it, Z is playing a humanoid manifestation of the last Infinity Stone. Close? Oh man, she better watch her ass when that big purple dude comes to collect.

with those new set images featuring Spidey Carrying a mysterious redhead while webslinging and what not, I'm very keen Zendaya is not Mary Jane. Something's up since Marvel has never been this secret about the actor/actress of a supporting character before.

where are these set pics?

Everyone that were paying attention last year knows that I went from crazy stupid theories like Miles becoming Spider-Man with Peter dying to actually legitimately having actual sources. I never claimed to be anything other than a fan. Even though now I actually do have some connections with people close to the production, I still see myself as a fan and I like the place where I am as a fan.

With that said, and honestly putting my ego aside, I like you and others doubt me. My point is actually you should doubt me, but not just me. Doubt anything that isn't official word from Marvel and Sony. This very thread's title confirms ElMayimbe's speculation, and trust me, this is even worse than Asa Butterfield is Spider-Man. This is Dylan O'Brien is Spider-Man levels of inaccurate. Why? Asa had a shot of becoming Spidey, he was the final name with Tom in the shortlist, not Charlie Rowe, and I know that some trades said differently, but that's not how it went down. Zendaya never had a shot of becoming MJ because that's not the character she was cast for.

As for my crazy speculation about Tony, this is me speculating away like I was when I actually thought that Michelle was indeed an alias for Mary Jane. Remember when I was speculating like many of you that Zendaya would make an amazing Mary Jane? Well, something happened between then and now that made come here and tell you that you people are barking at the wrong tree when it comes to Zendaya playing MJ. What happened I will never say. I think it's healthy that you doubt me, but doubt ElMayimbe's confirmation that Zendaya is MJ too. Consider the possibility of MJ not even showing up for Homecoming.

A lot of interesting speculation has reignited because of my recent posts, my favorite being Zendaya playing Kate Bishop, even though that's not who she is playing either. And about Midtown having other super powered teenagers... Midtown School in the MCU is not our average high school. This is a school for geniuses. Who knows... is Zendaya a genius? Are her parents geniuses? Is she superpowered? A possible hero or villain? What about Flash? Destined to become Venom... or something else altogether? The MCU, where ANYTHING is possible is beautiful, isn't it? :ilv:

That's better than being compared with ElMayimbe or DBS. I'll take it. :oldrazz:

Seriously tho, the only real information I have to share is that Zendaya isn't Mary Jane. And I'm not saying this just now, I've been saying since ElMayimbe claimed in his exclusive that something was off. Between now and then, I tracked information that confirmed my suspections and notice what triggered me to post again: pictures of someone looking like MJ. I was took by surprise as it was everyone else. Then what I've been saying is that MJ isn't Michelle and that she is probably not in the movie. The rest, you can speculate ad nauseum until the film is out. :woot:

I've been out of the loop for awhile, so I'm just getting caught up.

this is.......interesting..........

I honestly do not think Zendaya is playing MJ anymore. I think she's playing a new unnamed female superhero or a reworking of a villain. Here's why.

SuperHero:

1. Zendaya's image. She plays a teen spy on a popular Disney show it's perfect to go with that same image. 2. She's biracial. Which equals cookies for Marvel. They can say they have a black female superhero! 3. It makes perfect sense to say "she's important later" on if she's playing a super powered girl 4. She's 20, 19 at the time of casting, she's young they can use her for years to come. 5. Fanbase/following. Casting Zendaya as a superhero in a Marvel film is a very good move from a business standpoint. She's on a popular beloved Disney with a huge fan base. The kids love her, imagine how many kids are gonna flock to this because they're fans? The parents will get dragged to this movie. Big box office draw. Not to mention out of the HS cast she's the most famous.
6. Again, her image. Zendaya is always going on about how she wants to be a positive role model for her fans and the little ones in her family. What better way to do that than to play a Marvel superhero?

Villian:

Now, based on my above statements regarding Zendaya's image this one isn't so plausible. But it's all in good fun.

1. The character in and of itself. Zendaya has described Michelle as awkward, bookish, and dry. A loner with an aloof attitude. She has also stated that she makes fun of people, especially Peter. We know from Comic Con footage as well. We also know her wardrobe is sorta frumpy and weird. Michelle is essentially Allison from Breakfast Club and Lindsay from Freaks and Geeks. It's safe to say this character is weird and aloof. Out of the entire HS crowd, this is the perfect character to set up to be a villain. Not to forget that she possibly likes Peter, she's not a love interest and Peter won't like her back. Even worse if she ends up as Peter's Homecoming date and he still rejects her. Who knows she might be related to a villain Spidey locks up. Further inciting her anger.....

This could be a spin on the Venom storyline or Harry as the Green Goblin. The sweet irony of a former classmate becoming an enemy of Spider-Man.

Just my two cents.

Can we forget for a second what we think these characters should be like and just have some fun.

Jumping into a pool with MJ?

I can get behind that.

Yeah, that would be nice to have Mary Jane in a swimming pool.

...and now I have this mental picture of Tom Holland wearing a belly shirt and very short shorts.

Uh, I never considered the possiblity that she could be playing a villain... honestly the only major female Spider-Man antagonist I can think of is Black Cat, of whom I've never been a big fan. I'd rather they avoid the "scorned lover" angle, though... that'd be pretty lame imo.

Until last week I was, like, 95% convinced that she was MJ, but after seeing those helicopter stunt pictures I'm not as sure anymore. Maybe she really is playing another superhero.

Idk if this has been mentioned before, but what would people think about her as Black Cat?

I have a feeling Zendaya is going to steal the show, which is why I was kind of hoping she was going to be Mary Jane. Worried that we'll end up with another Emma Stone Gwen Stacy situation where Mary Jane ends up on the cutting room floor.

Uh, I think you meant to say Shailene Woodley as MJ situation.

I'd be okay with that.

I think what was meant by that was originally both Gwen and Mary Jane were going to appear in the TASM series but they opted to cut out MJ and incorporate some of her character into Gwen, and then the Shailene Woodley as MJ situation took place.
