Theories on why Wolverine was called LOGAN in the film.

Are you guys serious? Two pages of discussion when it was pretty much explained in the movie? Kayla, Lumberjacks and Gambit all called him Logan and his Dog tag said Logan on the back too. Logan was the name he went by once he started a new life. He pretty much told Stryker that too.

No, he didn't tell him anything. We all could figure out he changed his name, but not showing it is poor storytelling.

When a character changes a name in any story, it's a huge moment, because there are so many personal attachments to a name. The act of changing a name is important, because usually (in a story) the name the character chooses to pick up has a special meaning to the character and tells us something about him/her. Simply having the name change with no explanation is lazy writing.

I agree it's pretty lame writing. Especially considering they gave an origin to practically everything else about Wolverine in the X-Films. I think more people were curious about how Wolverine got his name then how Wolverine got his jacket.

Then why does Stryker call him Logan while they are in Africa?

EXACTLY! During the scene when the team are interrogating the villagers about the origin of the meteor, Stryker calls him Logan........

I didn't even catch that. The name change makes even less sense to me now.

Wraith, Agent Zero, and Fred Dukes also call him Logan which indicates that's the name he used before he went AWOL.

I was wondering the same thing. I mean in one scene he's called both lol. Stryker calls him Logan, then seconds later Victor calls him Jimmy.

Has it ever been explained in the comics why Rose picked Logan after they ran and ended up in the logging camp?

As far as Victor calling him Jimmy while everyone else refers to him as Logan, I didn't see that as a problem.

My brother doesn't like his first name so he uses his middle name. But only his friends call him by that name, the family continues to use his real name.

lespaul59, I don't remember the comic explaining why James decided to adopt the name of the man who killed the man he considered his father. I understand changing his name from Howlett but chosing Logan was strange.

lmao do these fools proof watch these movies for quality assurance b4 they release it to theater?? how do we catch these things and they dont? or do they really see us as mindless drones with $ signs as faces??

I think it was spur of the moment type deal. only name she can think of at the time or something...

Yep. She couldn't think of another name and she didn't want to give Smitty his real name, so she called him Logan to protect him.

isn't Logan his last name?
(I mean, the last name of his real father)

it's not uncommon, especially in a military setting, for people to be referred to by just their last name

but, since Logan sounds like a first name, it just took as being his name, thats what everyone knew him by, so, he just went along with it

the only other name people knew him by, was Victor calling him Jimmy, but, no one had the nerve to call him Jimmy

If you mean Logan is the last name of the fake father that got shot, then no. His last name is listed as Howlett.

If you mean Logan is the last name of the real father he stabbed, then why is Sabretooth named "Victor Creed"?

The more I think about it the more I realize that they seriously should have explained it. It just makes my head hurt more and more trying to think of an explanation.

yes, I meant his real father, though his name was not said out loud in the movie, he was credited as, Thomas Logan

Again, then why is Sabretooth called Victor Creed? That explanation only raises more questions then it answers.

Well it was mentioned in another thread on here I think that it seems like the writers worte some of the movie with the mind set that you know Wolverine from the comics or something like that. So I think if you look at it that way then the same reasoning carries over to the movie from the comics that Wolverine started using the name Logan as a secret idenity. I mean I just don't think that two run away kids with the names Jimmy Logan and Victor Creed is gonna send up a red flag like James Howlett and Victor Logan. Unless every thing was kept hidden then the police even then would have probaly had people looking for the two kids. Plus is Victor really cared for Jimmy then I think he would give him his last name because they where brothers. This doesn't bother because it has never been explained in the comics other than Rose called Logan Logan to hide who he really is.

Lets face facts, the writers dropped the ****ing ball!

You guys realize when you presumeably fight and die in every american war, are executed by a firing squad and survive, it's only a matter of time before people start getting suspicous.

Changing their identities to try to keep under the radar should be obvious...Stryker even asks them if they are tired of running and denying who they are.

Of course to each other...they still use their real names.

That would make sense...if they didn't use their real names in front of everyone else on the team. If they adopted the fake names to hide the fact that they really weren't killed by the firing squad, they're doing a pretty bad job of keeping it from anyone.

Basically, the writers just f*&cked up. I am curious to see if there was a cut scene that explains the names now though.

What do you mean? Stryker recuited them, obviously he knows their situation...I'm sure the other members of Team X are in similar situations being that they are mutants in a black ops team. The change in names wasn't to hide from them, but from humanity.

that and dont most covert ops ppl use aliases for various reasons?
