I've never said life was easier on him nor do I believe anyone else has. Are you really going to deny the media has over looked several things about Obama (the lack of a platform until 2 weeks before Super Tuesday, less than 2 years in Senate, just after criticizing John Edwards for having only 6 years in Senate). i responded to the entirety of a single post. i didn't cut. i realize it referenced an earlier argument, but i commented on your support for ferraro's argmument for lack of experience.

i agree with most of what you said.

the experience angle fires me up because its vague and baseless.

As for ferraros words, i think they were extremely careless... more so then one of Obama's staffers calling clinton a monster.

but being directly racist. i just don't think it was.

however... her saying Obama should apologize to her was rediculous.

aside from the experience thing, i don't really have much i can say with what your argument was, because i agree with it. when you brought in the experience analogy of your own you were trying to agree with her sentiment... and i think that argument is something to address.... whether or not ferraro is a racist, well i think shes just a victem of a very sensitive political sphere... one that sees someone saying the word monster... gettin worse treatment by the political campaign she supported.

All you need to do is look at John Edwards. Young...charismatic...intelligent, but driven into the ground by the media. I am thrilled that the Democratic party has Obama and Clinton running. It truly is "breaking the mold." That being said, I think that Edwards was shoved into being "the mold" by the media which is ultimately why he failed this time. The media didn't build him up as a rockstar. John is more than capable of being a brilliant candidate and president but he somehow became the mold because of his makeup.

well concerning the media... let me back track and say your correct on that. im not sure that Obama has gotten little criticism, as i think he has certainly been criticized. but he honestly has gotten some preferential treatment...

though i would say along with him being an accomplished and hopeful black candidate who may make history i think the media is enamored with him also for his speech on the vote to invade Iraq. i think the media began to fall in love...and completely lusted after him when his speeches were relatively great.

then theres clinton who didnt submit answers before deadlines to the press, didn't make herself as openly available as Obama (McCain is even more Open) and in some situations has demanded that questions be submited prior to conferences...and refusing answer certain things. the press has an easier time getting information about Obama...hes courting them, and effectively... if i was clinton i would have done the same... she just hasnt made the media her ally as much as Obama has... and im not ready to pin that completely on his skin color, i wont discount it either...

However, yes... Obama is getting treated well by the media when they're could be some more scrutiny over his experience.

...The case can be made though, that the media simply isn't going after clinton either... simply because shes a women. i mean the womens experience is arguable.

i think the media has dull teeth these days when it matters... and grabs a set of razor sharp dentures during often inapropriate times.

I dont care if Obama has "had it easier" during his Presidential campaign because he's black (which if he's gotten off easier it's been more because of his charisma, not because he's black). Her comments still downplay everything he's had to work past over his whole career, and to make a comment like "he has it easier because he's black" is just insulting, not to mention hypocritical considering in the same interview she claims that people are picking on Hillary because she's a woman. There is seriously something wrong with people that are looking at this comment and not seeing how those comments were racist. I'd like to see you run for any office (let alone the highest office in the country) as a black man with a funny name and see how well you do. Obama, for better or worse is in the position he is in because a.) he is a better speaker than Edwards, and b.) he ran a better ground campaign than Howard Dean in 2004. That is why he was getting more attention than Edwards or the white candidates. Yes, I'm actually agreeing with Clinton supporters in saying he is where he is because he gives pretty speeches.

As I have said before, John Edwards was and could have been again a brilliant candidate. He is everything that Barack Obama is. His problem this time is that the media somehow branded him the mold. It still amazes me that two candidates (John Edwards and Barack Obama) who are virtual copies of one another could be treated so differently in the media.

Obama has gotten off easier because he's black. It's a simple fact at this point. As Matt has mentioned, John Edwards was torn apart in 2004 when he had completed 5/6 of his term in the Senate. Obama had less than two years completed when he started floating around the idea that he was running for President, and barely had two years in when he made it official. Yet the media never hounded him for it at all. The media have since painted this spectacular picture of Obama as this trailblazing, revolutionary candidate. What's so revolutionary about him? His policies are the same as your run-of-the-mill Democrat. His ideas are almost the exact same as his main opponent. The media has painted him as revolutionary because his backstory inspires people. And the crucial part of his backstory which inspires people is his race. You see and hear people talk about it all the time: The first BLACK president! That's what the media sees Obama as. Granted, they see Hillary as the first FEMALE president... but they see Obama as the first black president as something far more inspiring. They've painted Obama as the purveyor of hope and change-- regardless of what those two words mean-- transforming him into a demagogue in the process. And despite what his stances on the issues may be, people view Obama differently because he is black. If you think he's been propelled to this level because of his charisma, you really are an idealist.

If you think Geraldine Ferraro's comments were racist by the way, you're an idiot. It's not racist to question whether someone got where they are today because of their race. It's a debate we should be having as a people today, and the fact that people get told to shut up because they're "being racist" every time they want to discuss it in a calm conversation makes me question the sanity of this country.

i will agree that John Edwards was my original choice... and would have made a great president.



but he was overshadowed by two figures who are hard to compete against.

richardson also, an acomplished candidate... but his demise was more in league with his debate performance.


i don't know if im scared though, i mean... im not expecting 8 more years of what we've just had... i would say at worst we would have a lame duck. its frustrating but im not terrified. McCain gets me nervous... but he still, is no bush...
