Apocalypse Things you didn't like in X-Men: Apocalypse (Spoilers)

Sorry kevork, but if you truly agreed with GuestStar you would know he thinks her Oscar winner/Big movie star status was not used by the studio to their advantage. Everything was always part of the plan, since 2011 in fact.:whatever:

Being against Mystique leading the X-Men is about as reasonable as expecting Xavier to create the X-Men, Storm to have white hair, Cyclops to have optic blasts, Jean Grey to be a readhead, etc.

And I remember all of those things being respected in the first X-Men movie, so I don't know what leg you're standing on.

of course lawrence caused Mystique role as it was In APocalypse.it may or may not be reason why mystique awas on her own in DOFP and not working with magneto to kill trask.

I agree with GuestStar. I'm not saying that there weren't things built in to cater for Jennifer but I think a lot of you complain and complain about it but hello this is the industry. Of course the movie company is going to do what it can to keep an Oscar winner in their grasp and use her to their advantage.

It turned out not to be much of an advantage, did it?

Despite all the time she was seen as Raven (basically, Jennifer Lawrence's normal recognisable look), the film gets 48 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and underperformed at the box office.

But also people have issues with Mystique because she's leading the X-Men and it's not comic accurate.

It just feels wrong, like a mischaracterisation.

And what does she have to teach them anyway? We don't even know how she became such a bad-ass - between First Class and DoFP she'd become an Olympic level acrobat as Singer tried to make her more like Rebecca Romijn's version.

And it's not helped by J-Law's obvious dislike for the role - she has a bad reaction to the make-up and she just doesn't seem immersed in the role like Rebecca was, so it seems like she is phoning it in.

If you're so okay with all that, let's see Nightcrawler forming a new Brotherhood, Moira MacTaggert being possessed by the Phoenix force to become Dark Phoenix, and Emma Frost getting adamantium claws to be the new Wolverine. Oh and let's have another Caliban while we are at it.

Couldn't have said it any better

Thanks. I don't mind a few 'creative liberties' (and we've had enough of those over the years) but there's only so far they can stretch it before it starts to feel like butchery and bastardisation.

Comics take liberties too, but with an issue to put out every month in multiple comics titles just for X-Men alone, they're going to explore some wild stuff like Jubilee being a vampire.

The filmmakers usually realise when they've overstepped the mark (like the mute Deadpool in Origins) and then strive to fix it.

Even imagining Rebecca's Mystique being the one to train the X-Men feels wrong, so it's just not the right thing for the character. On a one-off mission, in an emergency, it would be fine; otherwise it's every shade of wrong.

Although for those who argue its for the actress i am sure if they wanted to kiss her ass real bad she would have at least got a little action and not been chocked out in the final and sat it out, heck she might have even got the final blow on apocalypse rather than jean getting the climactic sequence.

I didn't know @realDonaldTrump posted here too j/k :oldrazz:

All those things happened in the first X-Men and they also happened in Apocalypse. Cyclops has optic blasts, Storm got white hair, Jean was a red head. Just because those things were done right doesn't mean a thing. We all know who the leader of the X-Men is. It's always been Cyclops, if not him it's Storm. But the first X-Men movie was the only time we saw Cyclops lead. And Storm was supposed to be the leader in Last Stand but Wolverine was the leader. So it's not like they've ever kept it the way we wanted anyway. And now they've done it with Mystique anyway. In one movie where the X-Men were young and not in control of their powers, and they weren't the fully formed X-Men. So I don't see the issue. Ok if the next movie has her being the leader and not Scott then complain. But the setup is there for Scott to be the leader.

And I mean really it is true Mystique barely did anything in Apocalypse. She led them there and got Magneto to stop and then she got taken out by Apocalypse. It was all Magneto, Cyclops, Beast, Storm and Jean who battled and defeated Apocalypse.

Even in the Alkali lake scene we saw Scott taking charge. Like I said the setup is there.

Look I'm a 100% with you. I don't want Mystique leading the X-Men either. But I feel like it was a one off for Apocalypse anyway. But if she's back in the next one and she's the leader I'll be pissed too. But I don't know if they'll go in that direction. Who knows if she'll even be back.

I felt there was lots of setup in apocalypse when it come to both Cyclops and Jean.

the X_men really only came together at end of film as team.they were trying to save
Xavier from apocalypse and thus save world.during third act mystique didn't do much besides talking to magneto and get choked by apocalypse.

yes she is leader as such she gave orders when the arrived in egypt and training them for xavier in danger room.

since i seriously doudt lawrence will be back given her disintrest in X-Men.It will be a moot point.

Why wait until the next movie is released and on our cinema screens? That will be too late to complain.

We may as well try to nip this stupidity in the bud, right now.

There's no suggestion this was a "one off for Apocalypse." We just don't know what they have in mind for the next movie.

LOL may as well throw in another Apocalypse too. "In the film they only referred to him as En Sabah Nur".

That's why I found it important that when JLaw did her interview where she said she would rather appear in GOTG instead of the next X-men film that people tweeted to Kinberg and Shuller-Donner.

Maybe they knew what JLaw's feelings were with the franchise but you never know, these people can live in their own bubble sometimes.

Ditto Fox giving Kinberg directing reigns.

Lawrence saying that made fan problems with her even worse. When lawrence personly says she put her foot down with regards to makeup that ends debate on her star power influencing apocalypse.

I still can't understand what is possing fox to let kinberg take the regins as director.

LOL, isn't that a staple of this franchise? "Storm will get more development, in the NEXT one.." "Jubilee will have a bigger role, in the NEXT one..."

But complaining has never gotten anywhere anyway. It's not like Fox listen to the fans. If that's the case the franchise would be in a whole different direction. So it's wasted expecting anything different and we just hope for the best.

Well, this is a discussion forum and opinions are going to be both positive and negative.

We may as well register our dissatisfaction on here in the hope that someone influential is listening, or just to show that not everyone accepts everything in these films.

We know more about Alexandra Shipp's Storm than we've ever known about Halle Berry's Storm and they basically had the same amount of screentime in their first movies. And technically Jubilee did have a bigger role this time around. :woot:

If you came to the X-Men: Apocalypse board looking for positivity , you came to the wrong place lol

The only positive posts are those hoping the next film will be better.

Storm had accent In Apocalypse and they included her being thief and growing up on streets of cario.

as for jubilee even with mall sequenze cut new version of jubilee still got more than version from original trilogy.

There was even a scene shot in TLS where Storm talks about her past. It bothers me that even when her story makes it to the camera, it doesn't make the film. Hell it wasn't even a deleted scene.

Well, lately most of the discussion has been over people defending everything about the film and saying the ones who didn't like it are being overtly critical or unfair.

And Jennifer Lawrence, of course.

I found another gem.

I agree.

We don't really know why she sided with Apocalypse and hated people so much that she didn't care when a pyramid was raised in her city.

It's in a deleted scene, of course.

Still don't know why that needed to be deleted.

Frankeh is right that this series often builds itself on false promises and teasing things that don't happen. We're always being told 'Well the next film will give more development to Storm/etc'. That seems like an excuse at this point.

The final scenes of these films are rarely followed up or properly developed in the next one.

Which is quite worrying when the last scene of XM:A showed a new X-Men team ready to start training. History tells us that this will likely be ignored in the next movie, and there's also that 10-year gap in the story and actor contract renewals to take into account. Which makes me wonder what 'Supernova' will actually be about and who will be in it.

Chances are FOX, Bryan and Kinberg know Lawrences feelings better then the fans do so chances are they ain't basing their views on false ideas.
