The Dark Knight Things you noticed the second time

I'm new to this topic so sorry if this is a repeat but I've always found it funny that Bruce says to Fox, "I'm playing this pretty close to the chest." and then later; Dent says to Gordon, "you do like to play things pretty close to the chest."
Was there a screw up in the writing?

no, both the scripts for Batman Begins and The Dark Knight featured repeated lines of dialogue.

Thats the only nitpick i have lol. I was like whaaaa

Watch his american remake of Insomnia with Pacino and Swank.

After having watched Batman Begins numerous times I eventually got around to buying and watching Insomnia. I was chuckling at how many lines and phrases there were in that movie that reminded me of Batman Begins. I forget which character says it but in Insomnia someone mentions rattling someone else's cage as an example. There are a few more that I can't remember off the top of my head but I personally found it funny.

^ I chuckled myself. Then I did a facepalm. Only a minor one though

I wasn't saying it was a repeat in the dialogue. In the Dark Knight, Bruce tells Lucious, "I'm playing this pretty close to the chest."

Later in The Dark Knight, when Gordon opens the swat van door and reveals to Dent that he wasn't dead after all, Dent says to Gordon, "You do like to play things pretty close to the chest."

They should have showed Gordon saying something to Dent about keeping things close to the chest before hand. They matched up the wrong lines with the wrong people.

Yes, I have seen Insomnia, along with the rest of Nolan's films. I don't mind too much the repeated lines, as I find it one of the few flaws amongst the many strengths the Nolans have as screenwriters

I wasn't bringing it up to make fun of it I actually don't mind it either. Hell, I don't even consider it a flaw really. Just about every director, musician or artist has something that shows up in most if not all of their work. I think those certain lines that Nolan uses again and again is that little signature of his. Kind of like some actors out there if you watch enough of their movies they tend to have a line or look or something that they throw into most of their films.

Another good example is with Director Bryan Singer. Kevin Spacey in The Usual Suspects and Hugh Jackman in the first X-men both say the line "You've all done a bang up job so far". Personally I like little things like that, something to keep an eye out for in the director/writer or actors other films.

I think the repeated lines of dialogue in TDK are intentional. Not only are there repeated lines, there are repeated actions, mostly between the four main characters (Batman, Dent, Gordon, Joker). I think they show a parallel they all share no matter what side of the spectrum they're on.

Has anyone noticed the re-occurance of the number 5 in the film:

*5 goons in the back robbery

*Joker and his crew have robbed five banks

*The fake Batman on a noose is five stories up (ok, that's obscure!)

*Joker responsible for 5 assasinations (Brian, Loeb, Surillo, Harvey and Dent - Harvey Dent, the Mayor and Gordon don't count, depite in some cases being the original target)

*True identity of the batman announced at five o clock

*And of cource, Two Face kills five people

Notice that, subjectively, all three main characters (Bats, Joker, Dent) are "responsible" for five deaths - batman takes the blame for harveys, joker blames batman for his.

Maybe it's a sign as to how many Batman films Nolan will put out.

Just kidding people, don't get excited.

LOL! and 5 * 3 = 15!

Also, this may be reaching, but i only recently clicked that the joekr announces ever "victim" in a unique way:

*Brian (video)
*Loeb
*Dent
*Surillo (card)
*Mayor (newspaper)
*Harvey and Dent (phone)
*Rachel (namebadge)

but also, cleverly

*Harvey Dent (the campaign badge he is wearing when dressed as the nurse) - dent later dies

so every victim is forwarned

Don't know if this has been mentioned before, but TDK also borrowed from "Die Hard" and "Ruthless People."

In Die Hard, Hans Gruber crashes the Christmas party and says "Where's Mr. Nataki?" Then he goes through the crowd of people searching.

In Ruthless People, they're on the lookout for the bedroom killer. He shows up at the kidnappers house and sees Bette Midler and says "You remind me of my mother. I HATED my mother." At which point he proceeds to go after her until he meets Judge Reinhold. "You remind me of my father...I HATED my father." Then the creep falls to his death down a flight of stairs.

The Joker makes constant references to, and uses, what could be classed as civil services, in his crimes:

Escape from bank in a School Bus
Disguised as police officers in the honor guard
Fire truck is set on fire and used as obstruction
Garbage truck used in chase
Hospital is blown up
Announcements made through Gotham News Station
Clowns disguise themselves as doctors

When the bomb detonates and Rachel dies and Gordon attempts to rush towards the scene with the police holding him back... he believed that Dent had just been killed.

The dead guys are tragedy and comedy.

Cool observation.

That's kind of how I saw it too.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before but when Gordon tries to save Loeb, Loeb says to him "you're unlikely to find this out for yourself" about the police commissioner receiving lots of threats. It is as if he thinks Gordon is over reacting.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but when Gordon enters the rooftop where Dent and Batman are, he has his gun held up, ready to fire.

Check Mr.Lau and Joker´s body language...

-The hands of Mr.Lau at the GPD are in the same position as one of the Joker photos...

-When Batman attacks Lau´s building, he prepares his gun and moves his head like when The Joker is cracking his head later on the GPD during Stephenson´s speech.

During the final Batman/Joker fight, after Joker says "all the old familiar places", where exactly does he stab Batman? is it in the stomach or further below the belt? Sorry if this isn't posted in the correct thread.:yay:

Harvey Dent doesn't offer Gordon a seat. Gordon has to find his own. Don't know if it has been mentioned before.

Probably in the stomach. That was where he stabbed Batman at the fundraiser, I think.

During Maroni's trial, Harvey Dent says that Falcone is in Arkham so someone had to take over the mob etc. Does that mean Arkham is operational again.
