Endgame Thor/God of Thunder - Chris Hemsworth

It's interesting hearing that perspective juxtaposed against what I'm hearing a lot out there from others-- keeping in mind nobody is right or wrong its just about how u personally experienced Thor and how it left you.

I think these guys (in the video below) best sums up what I got from Thor.

Heavy Spoilers!!! Skip to 19:30 for talk about Thor:

I think maybe you missed some of my prior comments regarding Thor and I think maybe I didn't expand enough on his involvement during the first two acts. Again, I liked the gag up until the end battle sequence. It's understandable given his arc how he might've let himself go. I generally laughed at just about everything he said/did or how other characters interacted with him up until that point. In fact I have a feeling the Russo's promised him he'd get to pull more Ragnarok into this film after what happened in IW.

I will say though - it wasn't a "requirement" that he had to be an overweight slob for it to work. He could've just been a drunken slob. It's when we get to the Avengers compound sequence where everyone else is at their best - Thor's over there powering up and his armor is barely wrapping around that belly of his. It was almost like watching Jeff Lebowski hard charging at the most powerful being in all of the universe.

In that moment, I wanted my old Thor back. There were so many inexplicable things that happened in the movie - why couldn't Asgardian enchantment return him back to his old form? As the fight progressed there was nothing memorable about his involvement. He powered up IM. He was the plot device to allow Cap his Mjolnir moment. And that was that.

That's what I'm saying though. It wasn't new footage. It was a deleted/alternate scene from TDW of Jane waking up on Asgard. They simply edited Rocket into the scene.

This is the scene:

Granted, they still included Portman in the credits (and she probably got a token payment) but it was still just old footage. Heck, when Rocket and Thor first scope out her room and identify Jane, you can clearly tell that it's just a body double and not Portman.

If they'd wanted to have Thor try and seduce Jane (like Rocket originally intended) that would have meant actually bringing Portman onto the set and paying her a whole lot more just to show a character that most viewers (not including me) despise.

I liked her in the first film but not in TDW. To be fair Portman showed up to the red carpet premier, so I have to give her some credit for that since she did no work on the film and still was credited.

As for Russo that was by far her best work as Friga.

So in Thor's next appearance in the MCU

will they have to show him trying to train to get fit and lose weight? I thought maybe he might even have to do that for Endgame. Or are they going to have him already in shape again? Will that likely be in GOTG3?

Seems obvious a time lapse will take care of his physical condition.

Sooner or later he will go back to his original self. It's just a matter of time.

All the conventions are going to feel very weird seeing slim or muscular Thors after this film, at least until GOTG 3 or Thor 4. :funny:

Yeah I still have no problems with fat Thor even if he didnt get the same shine he did in IW. Chris Hensworth gave a great performance and man were the emotions running high during that scene with Frigga. I actually felt something during my second viewing.

Hope he keeps the hair and beard though when he goes back to normal.

Or do something crazy and do bald headed and beard thor, didn't thor go bals once in the comics?

I thought hemsworth performance in this was one of the highlights.

There's a bald version of Thor that is called Ragnarok and he's a clone.
latest
But yeh the perfect look is a in shape version with the long hair and beard for sure.

Chris Hemsworth performance was indeed great. He's a great actor given the right material... and also trusting in him to delivering the goods while under the right guidance. He is a natural at humor and just makes people laugh. But he also is able to act the hell out of those dramatic moments. He is that good and really underrated and underappreciated in that department.

This gif didn’t age well. :D
He’s the dude now. That whole interaction plays now in Quail’s favor. :D

So do you think we'll ever get King Thor? If we do, how will the writers justify it, since he
said he never wants to be king

I honestly loved what they did with Thor. He’s become my favorite character after Ragnarok and he kicked all kinds of ass in Infinity War. So now in Endgame,
due to his perceived failure, guilt has set in and he has let himself go. It was comedic but sad at the same time. Then during the last act he once again brings the Thunder and kicks ass while leaving room for more development and adventure with the Guardians. I do hope we get another solo Thor film but for now my excitement for Guardians 3 is through the roof

The shot had me excited at first but then I saw how Thor's armor was sticking out due to his belly and I suddenly lost interest all over again.

Plus....
that moment was all hype since there was no payoff from that moment. Most of the people in my theater actually cringed from seeing on how bad Thor looked in action.

You interviewed all the people in your theater to bring us this totally unbiased reporting I assume, right? And it's not just you assuming or more likely just doing a sphincter pull claiming everyone at your viewing just happens to have the exact same opinion as you?

How did you come to this conclusion? You scanned the entirety of the audience at this precise moment? The whole of the crowd let out some noticeable sound in the middle of the film's big ending set piece that let you know they all had the exact same reaction that you were having?

You see how none of that passes the smell test don't you?

Well
He is still young for an Asgardian. Plenty of time for him to change his mind (King Thor stories in the books work better when it's a future version of the character, imo).

it'd be great to hear that Hemsworth was method acting and gained 40lbs of fat for the role.

I feel we need 1 more Thor film. I'm sure Hemsworth would do it. He might have a potential franchise with MIB though.

I know her name appears in the credits, but i'm wondering if Portman actually filmed her Endgame scene, or if they just used un-used footage from The Dark World...

It was unused footage from Dark World. Think there's a deleted scene it came from.

they can do that? They credited her so does she get paid for Endgame?

It's from one of the deleted scenes from The Dark World.
