Thor: Ragnarok The Official News and Speculation Thread - Part 10

The first problem with a decisive victor with 2 popular characters like Thor and Hulk is you are bound to upset fans. If Thor wins then Hulk fans are going to be angry, and if Hulk wins Thor fans are going to be angry. These characters have fought many times in the comics and most times without a decisive victor, because they are pretty evenly matched.

The 2nd problem is Comic Books and Comic Book Movies are all about providing a world of creativity and imagination. If you make one of these characters the champion then it removes peoples ability to speculate, which in itself is a creative and imaginative process, that is inherent to Comic Books.

I mean I don't think I would want to know all the answers, because part of the fun is speculating on it.

What is the upper limits to that characters strength?
Who would win in a battle?
Who is faster?
Who is the most skilled warrior?

To me it is questions like these, with Marvel's thousands of characters that keep fans debating with one another constantly and it helps create hype and fans wanting more.

Full ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Art of the Movie cover

Thor, Hela, Hulk, Loki, Valkyrie, Miek, Korg, Skurge, Fenris Wolf, Odin, Heimdall, The Grandmaster and Surtur in the back.

First good look at Miek and Korg. Hela looks epic in everything... goddess. :hmr:
Really dig Valkyrie, Miek looks like a freaking ninja, Korg is massive and looks nice, love the badass Skurge with the double M16, it just never get's old... Asgard in flames again and maybe a sign of what to come, we also saw that in the trailer.

Love seeing Odin again, Fenris down there, the looming threat of Surtur in the back, Heimdall with his massive sword and The Grandmaster with the "come at me" pose.

I don't know if it's just me, but your image doesn't appear to be working HD so I'll repost:

One thing I notice is that if Fenris is supposed to be to scale next to Skurge there then it appears he can change size, because he was clearly massive in the trailer. We have had hints that Hela may also be able to change size and we know Surtur can, so villains with size shifting abilities are clearly a thing in this movie. :cwink:

Someone posted this on the MCU reddit, take from it what you will but it appears to hint we may get a new trailer this week after all:

Does anyone have any idea what POL stands for?

Well that wasn't a fight, it was one guy trying to keep another under control. If Thor had been going for it full pelt and using all his available powers and Hulk left Thor unconscious on the floor could you be ok with that? :woot:

If it was in Hulks film then yes.

I don't think Fenris size is scaled right. I think that the size and positioning of the chraracters in that cover could be correlated with the importance of them in the movie and then gradually decrease in size to the one that have a smaller role to play. So if i had to guess the characters with larger roles and the ones with most importance in the movie...

Thor
Hela
Hulk
Loki / Valkyrie
Odin / Surtur
Heimdall / The Grandmaster
Korg
Miek / Skurge (probably a bigger part)
Fenris Wolf

I saw that thing about Trailer 2 in Reddit as well. We have had a Teaser and a Official Trailer not a "Trailer 2". I am hoping for one to be perfectly honest.

I agree for the most part.

Another concern that I have is that you don't want the Superman syndrome in the MCU. It seems that DC realizes that you can't portray a character too far ahead of everyone else, people won't feel for them and lose interest. Marvel Studios best bet is to keep many of their most powerful heroes and villains within reach of one another.

Cool, I hope it's legit. Also regarding the POL. I did a search on the internet to see if I could figure out what it was an abbreviation for, and the best acronym I could find, was "Play on line". I am not saying that is what it means, but with all the possible Acronyms I found it seemed to make the most sense.

With that book cover coming out like this i am again starting to the think that we are indeed going to see another trailer very soon and some looks at Korg, Miek even Odin... I want this so bad not to only be wishful thinking.

You may be right there, the marketing for this movie so far has definitely positioned Thor (obviously), Hela and Hulk as being the three 'main' characters with likely the most screentime and 'importance', with Loki and Valkyrie being next and the others following on from there.

Thanks for that, I couldn't find anything on google that fit. :funny: I was wondering if it could maybe be some kind of featurette, I expect we're due one soon.

Please be legit!

Korg and Miek look wonderful!

Yeah they look really awesome. Wonder if there is any chance of any other MCU characters having a Cameo or small appearance during the Gladiator battles. I mean they have those sculpted heads of some past champions on the side of the building. I doubt it will happen, but it would be cool if they did. Even if it was Valkyrie explaining Sakaar's Gladiator history with a flashback of Ares, Man Thing or Bill fighting would be awesome. I know we are getting plenty of great stuff though, and I am sure I will be more then satisfied with what we get.

I'd settle to just see a quick flash back thing about Hulk's past conquests. Obviously Hulk shouldn't be killing Bill or Ares, but a quick scene (basically just an abridged sequence of action shots, nothing long or drawn out) of Hulk battling and then ripping off Bi-Beast's head(s) would be great.

It'd be a nice cinematic opportunity to show Hulk fighting a classic Hulk villain, and it'd be a nice PG-13 Hulk fatality since Bi-Beast is an android. I'd be okay with the fight being so conclusive since, well, can anyone imagine Bi-Beast showing anywhere else in the MCU? Is his origin story or personality something we have to go into?

Whereas Ares and BRB should probably be properly introduced in a later movie as more flesh out and important characters, and not just be background dressing to be thrown around for a split second for fan service.

Also good god since a Dr. Strange 2 is inevitable, I want to see the Nexus and for Man-Thing to be a prominent character that Cumberbatch has to interact with.

Agreed on all counts

Related to the gladiatorial battles and potential flashbacks...

In the Comic-Con footage when Thor is sitting down and locked in place to that chair and before meeting The Grandmaster there's a pretty out there scene involving a lot of cool visuals which are being played all around him while he goes into some kind of tunnel, almost like going on a ride... they show the history of Sakaar, the gladiatorial battles and The Grandmaster.

For the gladiatorial battles there's at least 2 big fast scenes played in slow motion and in succession shown gladiators going head to head. In one of the scenes, the second one, it looked like Bi-Beast was featured knocking someone around...

The quality of the footage was not the best and i even tried to figure out if there was BRB or not but i couldn't tell. But one of the 4 gladiators fighting in separated battles looked like Bi-Beast.

Chris Hemsworth confirmed to be attending the Australian Premiere along with Taika Waititi, the executive producer for TR and local cast and crew.

Some more behind the scenes new footage shown in this bit of news. 3 mo-cap actors picking asgardians out of a crowd in that asgardian big square. Skurge armored and with his axe on the steps and in front of the crowd. The rest is just T:TDW footage.

This is a missconception actually. While the two have come to draws in brawls, Thor has more victories against the Hulk than vice versa when it isn't a strength contest.

According to the digital cinema naming convention I found online, it means "policy trailer" ... whatever that means.

(I am guessing, it is one of those funny little 'turn off your flipping cell phones during the movie' bits they show before the movie?)

eta: yeah, it looks like it is exactly that after I read further. "cell phones etc." http://isdcf.com/DC_Naming_Convention_V3.pdf

Just watched the German trailer (same as the others, nothing new in it...) but question the title: "Thor: Day of Decision" in German. Why not "Thor: Gotterdammerung" or even, well... "Thor: Ragnarok"? I'm sure there's a reason those would not be used, anyone know?

Ok so this might be nothing but...

September 19th
"Head of Marketing" for Marvel posted this. That's Brad Winderbaum the executive producer for TR and Kevin Feige with a Thor Ragnarok crew hat.

Always great catching up with @asadayaz. Big things happening!

Something is definitely brewing over there at Marvel Studios. Most of this is probably finishing touches to the movie and just getting ready to premiere it since the premiere is in 2 weeks.
