The war between the Aesir and the Frost Giants looks to be during the viking age, and there Odin found Loki as a baby. Loki and Thor look to be the same age when we see them as kids in the first Thor.

I think they live longer, it seemed like it was just a flippant remark from Loki. Also TDW was still trying to "de-godify" the Asgardians, I think this film will get away from that foolishness.
