Thor: Ragnarok The Official News and Speculation Thread - Part 5

I almost find it kinda hilarious how Taika Waititi, Hiddleston etc are all backpedaling on the "It's the funniest Marvel movie ever' now that their comments are receiving such a negative reaction from the fans. Makes me wonder what the final tone will ultimately be.

Also, shout out to Brooklyn, Krypton!

I think that their mistake might have been emphasizing it so much. Especially after the comedy in the first two films got, mixed responses. Like it seemed like they had to mention in every interview that I read that "oh it's going to be even funnier this time," and "oh there's even more comedy now." The history of this franchise has made many people, hesitant in that regard.

Also it's Ragnarok, basically the Norse apocalypse, and the villain is the freaking GODDESS OF DEATH!! I don't know why, given all of that, they felt the need to focus on how funny it's allegedly supposed to be so much.

I mean it's not like he actually can't. It's more he figured he didn't want to do it, cos he saw what he had to do, and he didn't think he had it in him to be a great King. Which is why forcing him to be King by having Odin killed would be something very interesting.

Exactly. Thor is a prince. It is his birthright, and duty, to become king one day.

Thor might be able to run from those responsibilities while Odin is still around (or while Thor thinks Odin is around), but once Odin dies what then? Frigga is already gone, and the only other claim to the throne is Loki. Thor might not like it but his personal wants and desires don't matter, he is a prince, it is his responsibility to one day lead Asgard.

That is a good arc across the 3 films, and, as someone mentioned earlier, you could end Ragnarok with Thor being crowned in a broken Asgard after beating Hela, bringing the films full circle.

Wonder Woman deserves a better actress. I'm way past the stage of being starstruck just by seeing the costumes and characters in live-action. I stand by my opinion that Gadot is miscast.

Good for you jack...

Nobody asked you. It was just someone saying they're excited.

I was thinking about Sakaar being the 'trashcan' of the Universe where loads of strays and unusual types end up and thinking how funny it would be if the Red Skull randomly walked past in the background of a shot, indicating that's where he eventually ended up after the Tesseract teleported him to the ass end of the Universe somewhere in TFA. :funny: Just a little cameo for the hardcore fans, they wouldn't need to get Hugo Weaving back, just put the Red Skull makeup and costume on an extra.

Hel(l) yeah. I'll always go to see WW, no matter my opinion on the casting or what not. WW is one of my all time favourite superheros, so I'm more than willing to give the film the benefit of the doubt. I really hope it's great. :yay:

Wonder Woman's origin for ME is like Seeing Thor in a 40's Cap film lol
I LOVE both 40's period films AND Viking films lol

Still wondering if we DO see a form of Rune-Thor at the end of Ragnarok OR will we be seeing something more in the lines of King Thor we saw during the Avengers disassembled arc that was mostly 100+ years in the future anyway.

Well Waititi did say there will be some blink and you miss it cameos I think at one point.

Yeah I'm betting with the news of Hela holding Mjolnir Beta Ray bill won't be one

I have to agree. Physique aside, she's just so wooden. Parts of the new trailer made me cringe.

While I love the love for Bill, I think Beta Ray is one of those characters we will never see in this generation of MCU movies. Don't think that character works with what we have in the MCU, and I don't see any reason to include him other than fan service. I think the GA wouldn't take him seriously.

He's better served as a cameo in guardians of the galaxy. The character fits that tone better.

I say, keep him away from Ragnarok. Can't see a scenario where he works

I sadly agree. One day for sure in a future adaptation of some kind but right now I say it's remote even in any other MCU franchise.

I still would like more of Sif and The Warriors Three. I REALLY want some movement on the Sif/Thor relationship. Bur now that seems as unlikely as Bill's inclusion unfortunately.

I don't know if we get Sif in the movie as Jaimie Alexander has been busy on her show Blindspot. If not, I do hope they mention what happened to Sif and The Warriors Three in the movie.

It's been an unfortunate sequence of events that slowed down any forward momentum with Thor's love life in the films. Portman seems less than enthused to continue on and Alexander got injured and as such it limited her appearance in TDW.

I actually see Beta Ray Bill having a cameo in Thor Ragnarok.
Taika Waititi retweeted some time ago an image of BRB from Walt Simonson. And afterwards he said he didn't meant to tease and that he just loved Walt Simonson work.

Knowing that Taika is familiar with BRB it wouldn't be all crazy that he decided to have something small for the fans. I could see BRB appearing in Skaar. A small cameo about a gladiator, the last one of his species locked in some dungeon or something like that... it would be cool. Skaar looks crazy enough to have him around.

Last year when a cast list was released and didn't include her, people were thinking she wasn't in the film, but she tweeted saying not to worry.

I would LOVE this to happen. Even with BRB Cyborg/pre-Thor. STILL Taika did say he was teasing we don't know know if it was something that will or won't show up. lol
