No, Ultimate Thor turned out to be a god as well. But his visuals are much more modern/sci fi and the writer tried to keep it ambiguous whether he was actually a god or just some crazy guy for a while. Plus, I think all his powers do actually come from his belt, which is true to some of the myths but kind of lame in my personal opinion for a superhero.

I was just thinking in the Stargate TV series the Asgard were the alien greys.
When they came to earth thousands of years ago they had Humans worship Thor as God.

well actually it was humans on another world not earth. but we did learn they visited earth many times too.

Never. I mean, I guess you could describe the Asgardians as "aliens" because they live in another dimension, but it's been implied that the gods' dimensions are as natural a part of Earth as the grass or the sky.

I do agree though that a more Viking'esque Asgard would look awesome. Mystical Asgard w/ rainbow roads I dont think would suite me as a viewer.

Each writer or artist gave their opinions of thor and his universe. Jack kirby, walter simonson, coipel, mark millar.

Kenneth branagh is a fan of shakespeare, no ? So i want an asgard shakespearian.

Tim burton or chris nolan gaves their visions of batman and his universe and it was interesting.

I'm for the science in asgard too (and no magic) to be ok with iron man and the incredible hulk's universe.

well i think there will be magic, but it will probably be played out since asgard is so advance magic for them is like a science, but in our realm their science looks magical to us mere mortals.

Id like to see a good part of the movie on Asgard, watching all those sets, the places out there and all of that.

I was disappointed that they went this route. I liked the idea of Thor just being a crazy guy with a high tech suit. It really differentiated him from the 616 universe. They should have kept his origin ambiguous. Now pretty much all the ultimate characters have basically turned into their 616 counterparts, which really kills the whole idea of the Ultimate line.

....Um Ulty Thor's origin IS being told in his own book.
To we 616 fans that's not Thor or wasn't since it seems they're somewhat changing Ulty Thor.

I'm actually intrigued by the whole plot of Thor's experiences on Earth being used to humble him as a real hero, since that was the big aspect that I enjoyed seeing in Iron Man 1 with Tony Stark's time in captivity. Makes for compelling story telling imho.


I really hope that they put a lot of dramatic tension on the whole scene where Thor fails to lift up his hammer at the SHIELD site, since I'm thinking that this is when Thor realizes that he's not as LARGER than life character that he had thought himself to be prior to this.

That's absolutely possible. It's happened a few times in the comics and we actually know that's part of the movie already.

I think that's the idea. In the trailer that was released, you see Thor clearly distraught while kneeling down on the ground as he looks at the hammer after having supposedly tried to lift it.

Which is why I'm looking forward to the scene, since it's supposed to be this big moment where Thor realizes that he's not the larger than life character that he's believed himself to be before then.

I'm thinking that the way Thor gets his powers back is how he handles himself in the town with the civilians there as the Destroyer approaches.

From the readings of one of the interviews, it's hinted that Thor was the kind of person that didn't think on how his actions can negatively hurt other people, thus seeing him trying to help the town's folk escape first and head off to fight against the Destroyer, powerless in order to protect someone other than his own ego, would demonstrate his worth as a hero.

I think that's probably exactly what takes place. Actually, I think that is probably one of the main themes of the movie ... Redemption after failing and being humbled
