Thor story arc

I'm thinking that the way Thor gets his powers back is how he handles himself in the town with the civilians there as the Destroyer approaches.

Agreed; a simplistic version would be Thor being given a way to return to Asgard, but decides to stay and help even (relatively) powerless.

Don't see this working though, but would definitely show how he now considers the repercussions (leaves, everyone dies) before acting.

Nah, I don't think he'll be offered a last-minute way out. I see it happening something like this:

The Destroyer shows up and wrecks some stuff. The Warriors Three and Sif try to distract it so Thor can get away, knowing the Destroyer would easily kill him in his powerless state. But the Destroyer tears through the other gods in no time and Thor, realizing that Jane and all the humans who've shown him such kindness would be killed if he runs, turns around and faces the Destroyer. That crucial decision--to try to stop the Destroyer, even though he knows it will likely mean his own death, in order to protect the others--is what finally restores his worth. He's lost his arrogance by showing he's capable of putting others before himself, even to the extent of sacrificing his own life so that others can live.

The best would be if Mjolnir actually returns to his hand on its own right at that moment. The Destroyer advances on Thor, its visor open and its disintegrator charging... and then it suddenly gets knocked over and faceplants as Mjolnir zooms through it back to Thor's hand. Cue giant lightning strike and flannel-wearing mortal Thor is replaced with the fully armored godly Thor again, who proceeds to kick the everloving s*** out of the Destroyer.

^^^ Man, I hope that's how it goes down! I think you're definitely on the right track.

I can definitely see that playing out from what we've seen in the trailer and screen shot of Thor with the beaten Asgardians.

I love the fact that the films Marvel are involved in have great action sequences without sacrifice emotional character content. Thor looks no different.

Corp, I bet you are almost spot on with that scene. Would be amazing to see.

@Corp - I would LOVE to see that happen to kick off the battle with The Destroyer. I could easily see that actually happening in the movie.

Yup, this will happen.

I wonder if he'll travel back to Asgard via "lightning strike" or will he open up a portal with Mjolnir.

Not only is that entirely plausible, it's absolutely awesome.

Imagine Thor's expression the moment Mjolnir returns to his hand and the instantaneous realisation comes to him that he's a god again........

I think that may just be a crowd-cheering moment.

Regarding Odin I think that Loki will somehow trap Odin inside the Destroyer armour. Making the battle even more complex.

That would be interesting. Odin's been one of the few who can control the Destroyer in the comics, but I guess the same might not be true for the film.

I just think that we'll see Thor use his full strength battling the Frost Giants having some fun.
It'd be far more interesting to see him battle the Destroyer but having to hold back because of Odin being trapped.

OR

Thor is unaware of what has happened to Odin in Asgard - when Thor returns Loki tricks Thor into thinking he killed Odin when the Destroyer was defeated due to Odin being trapped. I really want to see Loki trick someone :)

I'd like to see the latter because I wanna see Thor go all out against The Destroyer. Even though I still want to see Loki trick someone & as well as cause chaos.

Well, it's directed by Branagh so I'd say that's pretty much a given. Anyways, I definately get a sense of seriousness from both the comiccon footage and teaser trailer.

I imagine it'd have to be more serious than Iron Man given that Branagh's been comparing it to a Shakespearean family tragedy.

I think the only humour we will get will be from the Warriors Three, Volstagg mainly and then on Earth - but it won't be forced it will be simply misconceptions between Asgardian ways and Human ways.

Overall the film seems to be about war and treachery. I think it'll be a very heavy film in that regards.

I personally can't wait for the end of Thor. Ages ago wasn't there some script leak with Thor talking to Coulson about joining the Avengers? I really hope that is in the film.

Yeah you can tell from the trailer that Thor is going to be alot "different" than Iron Man. Plus I REALLY hope Thor has far better action & fight scenes than both Iron Man and Iron Man 2.

I hope Thor has even better action & fight scenes than Incredible Hulk, even though Incredible Hulk had pretty good ones.

I can only think of 4 fights.

Against Frost Giants
S.H.I.E.L.D
Destroyer
Loki
