The numbers is a great site when it comes to looking up DVD sales.
The numbers is a great site when it comes to looking up DVD sales.
How is Batman not in the same league, it was a re-boot of the character 7 years later (TIH was only 5) that made lots more than TIH, because the word of mouth was so good on it.
TIH obviously didnt get the GA's mouths watering enough for WOM to spread, if TIH was good enough, 2003 Hulk wouldnt have mattered, in the end, the TIH DVD sales were also pretty poor, you cant blame 2003 Hulk on that, that was all TIH.
I remember watching the numbers site when TIH first came out on DVD. Sales were doing well and reached somewhere along the lines of $80 mil in consumer spending. Then one week I checked and the numbers were changed showing $50 mil in consumer spending. Does anyone remember this?
Batman has a huge fan base. People were waiting for a reboot. I don't think (MI) that The Hulk is in the same league with Batman.
Ok let's turn this on 2003 then, if Hulk was so good then the workprint wouldn't have mattered. The workprint was seen by who? Fan boys that's who. And it still had th bigest opening for June. Ya see what I'm geting at. People were in line for 2003 Hulk and couldn't wait to see it.
Never said Hulk 2003 was so good, I know it wasnt liked by many, but has gained a somewhat cult status over the years, though still many dislike it. Not only fanboys would have watched Hulk online also, it was available for the whole internet community, so more than fanboys would have seen the workprint, I know more than fanboys saw the Wolverine one.2008 TIH, people weren't all that excited about after Hulk. Yes it could have been marketed better. Hell Scooby Doo II had better marketing. But still, the 2003 was still fresh in the mind of the GA. I could also add that in 2008 people has less desposable income. Besides SHH and Hulkspace, I have yet to meet anyone who liked 2003 Hulk. And most of them didn't bother to go see TIH 2008. Without the cast, TIH would have done even worst than it did. Which was still better than 2003. HA!
I doubt Disney will cough up over $150 million (which we all know sequels cost more so it would be more than that) to make another Hulk movie.
Personally, I think that for TIH, a budget of around $200 million is needed. Why? Well because you would be able to get the likes of ILM and WETA working on the film which would be near photoreal CGI and much better fights.
I am not saying that R&H did a bad job with TIH because with the time and experience they had, they did a great job. But overall the CGI was nothing amazing or groundbreaking.
Iron Man had a budget of around $180million right, well I guess quite a bit went to ILM.
Iron Man's budget was $140 million, $10 million less than TIH's, but, to be fair, they didnt have to have as many effects shots. With IM, a lot of it could be done practically, with Hulk, it HAD to be CGI.
I think the least a production budget would be for a TIH sequel would be $170 million.

its a great one, and according to it, TIH's DVD sales werent the best.
And I am very well aware of this website. And I also know that Blue Ray is NOT reported with DVD sales. Again, alternate media. And Blue Ray is at least twice as much as regular DVD. And TIH has made a mint on Blue Ray sales, according to every article I have read regarding such. Now I am not saying that TIH is up there with IM. Obviously not. It's just that the sales for TIH are nothing to sneeze at.

What % of house holds have blue ray already? I mean Blue Ray are expensive which would account for big sales for a CGI driven film.
My goodness, I don't know how many times I have to say this. We DONT know how much it cost to make TIH. One site says 150mill, another site says 135-140mill. The same thing with IM. We just don't know.
Hulk is as well known as Batman.
You think I am defending Hulk 2003 and having a go at Hulk 2008 for some reason dont you? Thats the only reason I think you are being so defensive.
As active as I was at Hulkmovie.com

Are you able to get on the forum? I'm still getting an error message.![]()
Hulk is as well known as Batman.
Well known and popular are two completely different things. The Hulk does not have the fan base that Batman does. That's just a fact.
Jamon I'm not being defensive at all. I'm just pointing out something I think is true. The workprint was on line for a day or two? As active as I was at Hulkmovie.com I didn't even get a chance to see it. I didn't even know it was on line until after it was taken off.. Based on it's opening I don't think it had much affect at all. But that's just my oppion.
No, no he's not. Batman has about 30 more years of exposure, multiple popular cartoons, and a live action tv-series and movie that became a part of pop culture and is still referenced today, all before his first big major motion picture in the 80's. Batman had four movies made about him, one of them still in the top 50 grossing movies of all time, and arguably the most popular and renown animated series of all time, before Hulk had one major film made.
Hulk had some animated cartoons that were mildly successful, and a live action tv-series that was successful, but no where near as influential on pop culture.
Simply put, Hulk, while certainly being one of the more well-known superheroes, is not close to the level of general public recognition that Batman is.
Batman is in the "big three" of superheroes. Batman, Spider-man, and Superman are the most well known superheroes to the general public. Hulk would be on the next level, being Wolverine, Hulk, and Iron Man (because of his latest movie.)
Hulk is well known, don't get me wrong, but to put him on the same level as Batman is ridiculous. Batman is not only one of the most well known Superheroes of all time, he also has arguably the most recognizable villain of all time; the Joker (who is perhaps behind Darth Vader in terms of movie-villain recognition.)
I think Hulk is as well known, easily, who doesnt know the Hulk? Honestly, Batman may have more fans, sure, but the characters and their traits are just as well known as each other IMO.
Well, I doubt the Blu-ray sales were anything spectacular, considering that in 2009 Blu-Ray sales are 72% up on those sold in 2008.
In 2008, I dont think many did, I have only just got a player myself 2 months ago, and I can highly recommend it.

Try this Obi-Ron http://www.hulkspace.com/vb/
I sent HulkSmash an e-mail about it. Hopfully we can keep the place alive.
The Hulk is definitely one of the more well known Superheroes, but everyone knows who Batman is. People who hate Superheroes and haven't read a comic in their life know who Batman is. Now, Hulk is close to this level, but I would be willing to be there are more people who are unaware of Hulk than there are of Batman.
You answered your own comment. The increase in blue ray sales relative to last year is most likely due to more people owning a blue ray player. It's all about relativity. So for the time, yeah, all indications is that the blue ray sales of TIH were good. And I recommend blue ray as well.
Everyone knows the image of someone losing their temper and growing into a Hulk, Ed Norton even said he was surprised how many people knew the character in some of the countries they shot.
Not necessarily, and they may have been good for blu-ray at the time, but that increase this year indicates not many people were spending money on blu-ray last year, so TIH didnt make much profit fom it.
So I'm finally able to get onto Hulkspace via your link CJ. But I noticed there is an awful lot of crap that has been linked into Hulkspace. Viagra stuff? What's going on?
