LL said he couldn't see the scales and ears working so he changed it, I don't buy this, you don't just think to yourself 'That wont work so Ill change everything about the character' when making a movie. Like Sam Raimia did you try the original first and if it doesn't look right change it, Raimi had concepts of the original venom drawn up, heck he even had a full scale animatronic model built. LL just seems to of gone 'Nah dont like that, Ill change it' but he doesn't say that he says he couldn't see it working, yet he didn't even try by the sounds of things.

Like he said, he tried to "wrap" his head around it and somehow include the original appearance into the movie but he just couldn't do it.

Scaly skin compared to elbow swords, hmm which is less realistic? I like this design. But I am never going to accept that there was no conceivable way the comic design couldn't be done. This redesign is still a million times better then what they came up with for the Green Goblin.

Well the elbow swords make sense in the context that the serum was injected into the bones, and that made them push out of their casing.
But as some have said, if they'd of worked something about Blonksy only being able to access some serum from a lizard or a fish, that could of done the trick.
But already that sounds overly convoluted, and what fish/lizard looks close to the original abomination?

Well its not that I'm emotionally torn that I won't be seeing monster penis, it just makes even less sense to me that he has no penis then if he'd of had scales.

If he has no penis or no ears, then he shouldn't have a nose either... If its something to do with him being a skeleton or something.
Just cgi some pants on him for the sake of sense!

Thats the thing... The amount of time put into developing the reasoning behind this might end up quite silly.
The army has possession of Banners blood, Sterns has experimented with it on various animals.

So it would have to be explained that you need a certain body composition in order to support the mutation, and if you get into having to dilute the formula into some fish/lizard concoction then it almost starts to sound like Ang's Hulk which had some sort of "various animal" angle.

You could also go the route of not explaining it like the comics did. Something tells me there won't be anything in the movie that will explain why Abomination has elbow swords anyway.

Personally I think there is a very simple way of having the retilian style look without changing the script.

You see that Abomination has bones from his spine sticking out and that is kinda reptilian, then why not just have his ears grew out not huge like the original appearance but kinda small like the ears of that guy from Star Trek. His toes can mutate to form just two toes and you could have other parts of his body which just started growing wrong to make the look kinda bumpy.

But here is my idea how they can bring back the Abomination in a sequel cos Hulk doesn't really have that many good villians...

If you have read the FIRST DRAFT you know that Sterns used Banner's gamma blood and tested it on animals, one of them could be a reptile and one could be a fish of some sort. Then in a sequel when Sterns is the Leader, he somehow manages to get the corpse of Abomination and brings it back to life, this shows Leader's intelligence and the technology he has. When he brings Abomination back to life he can tell him how Hulk completly destroyed him and how he should get revenge but with one injection he can be even stronger. Then the fish/reptile experiment could be the most successful and Leader uses it on Abomination to see what happens, this makes Abomination a lot stronger than before and mutates him into his original appearance.

That makes me think it's two completely seperate syrums, each having a different effect.

Personally, Ithought it was pretty reasonable even though my thought process would never even second guess it. I always figured it was some random happening/mysteries of science type of thing. Suspension of belief always led me to this conclusion, but directors and studios are jumping on the realism band wagon in post-NolanBatman genre. Sometimes i think they are being frivolous and/or nit-picky but for the most part they still make sense

It isn't really over explanation, a different syrum that uses reptilian DNA, nothing complicated about that.

If LL felt it needed an explanation then he should of come up with one, not exactly hard to do so, instead he created an entirely different look accompanied by an explanation. You see he had the time to create a whole new look and explanation instead of just trying to work with the original, which can be explained in numerous ways. From here it looks like he just changed it through personal preference, which I wouldn't mind if he'd just admit that.
