he left to lure them away but he didnt know that Lex would take them there. He assumed they would follow. they could have stayed behind and killed more people while Superman waited in the FOS like an idiot.

Exactly.

I really don't think this is true, hence why superman lured them away in superman 2. Now if they really couldn't be lured away that's another story. But my expectations have pretty much gone down the drain with every spoiler I've read.

The whole scenario in Superman 2 is laughable and cheesy to me, they wouldn't have let him escape if they could.

Ok guys what I want to know is, how good is this movie compared 2008's Iron Man in kicking off a Cinematic Universe where other heroes exist?

And more importantly, will this movie make people like Superman again?

From what I have heard and seen so far, Zod is there to destroy earth first. He has his troops to deal with Superman. Black Zero was not going anywhere so its hard to lure them away. They would destory earth and then take out Superman.
That what I heard too, and I would be ok with it if there was no choice as to where to fight . I just hope Superman is shown using his brains rather than being all muscle head.

Right.

Nobody wants to have a downer ending in their superhero movie. The closest was TDK, and even then, it kinda ended on a heroic note. :oldrazz:

We know there was devastating destruction. We saw it being made. The only reason to show the devastation again, post crazy fight, is to make you feel depressed about it all. :funny:

The filmmakers will choose the emotional beats they want you to feel at a given point in time, and we just have to fill in the logical gaps as best we can. :oldrazz:

Yeah I agree with that and not to bring up Superman Returns as a knock but I don't wanna come out feeling deflated like I did with that movie.

Digital Spys review was interesting they gave it 4 out of 5. The only negatives they gave were the 3D and the fact that Clarks alter ego wasn't explored but said it could be in a sequel. I just finid it weird that they gave that second one as a negative when this film is clearly about the beginning.

Reemeber that Superman is still learning what he is supposed to do. That is just good writting. The fact that there are people screaming down below is brilliant. Some people just need to look at the bigger picture.

The Hoolywood Reporter gave a nice review: http://search.yahoo.com/r/_ylt=A0oG7nvG6rZRsCUAqehXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTE0dTBqcXJnBHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDNARjb2xvA2FjMgR2dGlkA1NNRTIzMV83OQ--/SIG=12ingaaio/EXP=1370970950/**http%3a//www.hollywoodreporter.com/movie/man-steel/review/565025

IGN good review: http://search.yahoo.com/r/_ylt=A0oG...n.com/articles/2013/06/11/man-of-steel-review

"The Verdict

Action-packed, briskly-paced and featuring a stellar cast, Man of Steel is the best Superman film since the 1978 original and proves DC can match Marvel in the massive scale department. While it could have used a bit more levity, Man of Steel is nevertheless director Zack Snyder's best film to date." IGN

84% on Rotten Tomatoes! It's in a definite upward trend. 7.8 score.

Still at 83%, just one more positive review taking it from 15 to 16 Fresh and still 3 Rotten. 16-3 the score, I have a good feeling it will be going up from here, fingers crossed. ;)

The one thing that definitely caught me by surprise from hearing about it was how..

the battle of Smallville takes place AFTER Superman surrenders himself to the Military, and later, to Zod.

I was so sure that it was going to take place before those two latter events. I didn't think that Snyder and Goyer would put that battle and the battle of Metropolis so close to each other.

Exactly my thoughts as well. Probably my biggest shock to this point.

Wow 21 review positive and now 8 negative...sitting at 72%

Give it some time. STiD looked like it was heading through a rough patch earlier on, but steadily climbed back up as time went on. Then again it might really be rough waters ahead...

That's not a bad ratio of good and bad imo. I hate to be one of those people that tries to undermine any negative review, but they are a bit confusing. Some say the film is almost too earnest and emotional while others say it has no heart. Which is it? And of course there are the negative reviews giving it crap for being a serious movie and not the "gee golly gosh" type of film they want or seem to think it should be.

Please tell me this thread hasn't gone off the deep end.

Yeah good post, I have to say that the people slating it for been too serious would probably have slated it if it wasn't serious enough. Sometimes you can't win, the key thing to remember is we all like different things and we each take away different things from movies.
