Zod seemed to be in control of his own flying at that point. As for hands on eyes, that might be a good way to lose or at least maim your hands. Not a good idea when you are the only thing stopping a genocide.

If superman was strong enough to break his neck or fly into him, after he realized he too can fly, sending him across a few blocks...i don't think it woulda been a problem. OOOOR he could also have just told that family to run the other way? that baffled me. If you are that scared to move and be logical...i'm sorry...you don't deserve life if your not willing to do what it takes to protect it. Why did those humans not run to the left away from the beam while supes was holding him for quite a while, enough for an escape?

Just saw the movie and I loved it. I'd rate it about an 8.5 or 9/10 at this point. Lots of fun to watch and more emotionally gripping than many of the reviews had led me to believe. Left me wanting a lot more too. Can't wait for a sequel.

For some reason I can't write or post a longer post giving my reasoning behind my view of the film. It keeps saying I am not logged on when I am pretty sure I am. So if this sounds childish and stupid, believe me I had a whole novel written which I tried to post twice but couldn't. I am a huge fan of S:TM/SII and a "purist". I was born in 1976 so I leave it up to y'all if you think I am an old foggy. I saw MAN OF STEEL at 9:30am when I got off my job. After some thought I have to say when I am being more taciturn and rational I think it is my several magnitudes better than BATMAN BEGINGS. And when I am just letting my Superman fan freak flag fly? Well, when I do that I think that I may have just seen the greatest comic book superhero movie of my life so far. Really.

The ball is in your court now Joss Whedon. Prove me wrong. (This is from someone who saw AVENGERS 5 times in theatres and cherishes it on blu ray)

I'm thankful iamsilvio quoted your post a couple of pages back because it saved me a lot of typing. I really can't put it any better than that. I couldn't find the words to express how dumb and horribly-executed this incoherent POS movie really was. I generously rated it a 5 and the more I think about it the more I think the score should have been lower. The action scenes, which I was hoping would be the saving grace of this film after enduring that first hour, were horribly shot and a blurry, sped-up, repetitive mess. When it came time for Superman to fight Zod I was wondering what the hell they could possibly do any different than the previous 30+ minutes? Punch some more? Smash through more buildings? This was the first movie since Transformers where I just wanted it to end.

That's how I saw it too.

Let me add - how awesome was Faora? She made such an impact on screen. And she's still alive, in the phantom zone. A great villain.

Faora deserves "Most Effective Henchman of 2013". I hope to see her at the HENCHIES this year. I hear they got HARLEY QUINN to host the ceremony this year.

Aside from the sloppy writing, the biggest sin of this film is that it's completely humorless and takes itself way too seriously. I only felt at the end of the film when Clark is entering the Daily Planet that I finally connected with the character. For the first two hours of the film, they turn Clark Kent into Bruce Banner, where he's a drifter who changes his identity multiple times.

This was like a 200 million dollar preview of what is to come next. The only thing that saves the film for me are the performances of Cavil and Adams.

but the rest of the film just felt like a lifeless soulless drab, intermixed with Dragonball Z type action scenes, which were pretty overrated. The only action scene I really enjoyed was Superman and Faora's fight.

This one I'll agree with. She should have been the main villain of the film.

I can't say that the effects and action is this were less that stellar, my self. I followed all the action perfectly well. When some things were chaotic and a little unclear, I think the intention was to put you in the middle of a fight between titans walking the Earth.

Are you trying to convince him that it does have flaws? That's ur opinion of the movie. I found no flaws and neither do a lot of people. It seems like people on here that dislike it want to convince people that did like it that it ain't that good. My opinion is that it's an epic movie and the best comic book movie since TDK

SO the fact that lois being blasted into that wall and not breaking ribs was not a flaw? The fact that no one bled in that movie was not a flaw? The fact that Kryptonians can hover in the air for no apparent reason (according to their own density logic) is not a flaw? The fact that Superman made out with Lois in front of all those citizens, without actually having more than 3 full romantic encounter prior, is not a flaw? the fact that a scientist beat down an army GENERAL is not a flaw? The fact that an untrained kryptonian who has lived his whole life as a human can match combat against a well trained merciless army general is not a flaw? The fact she could shoot a kryptonian gun with ease and us not know why she is so cunning, can handle herself as well as any soldier with a gun against alien SOLDIERS, is not a flaw? The fact that the city had not been quarantined off by the government and that the daily planet seemed very operational soon after Metropolis destruction was not a flaw? The fact a suit perfectly form fitting to kal- El's build was in a random ship from a thousand years ago was not a flaw?

really?????

Not to mention that both the nuts and bolts production design and the cgi just makes this the best looking comic book superhero movie of all time. (ALI VOICE)"...of all tiiiiime!

Sin City, Watchmen, and 300 LOOKED better imo

I am not sure SIN CITYM WATCHMEN or 300 had the scope of this film. Also, each of those films have a much more stylized look and feel. This thing was trying to look like the real world and yet I don't think the effects themselves or designs ever felt out of place. Plus I just thought they were damned beautiful. I guess it helps to have that extra year to make something picture perfect.

all that building damage came from the gBeam. I recall about 2 maybe 3 punches through buildings(but I'm faint on the situation).

From the way people made this film sound I thought it had more pointless fighting than the Raid or something. To each his own.

I'm not sure how much the specific action of punching through a building was repeated, that's just my hasty generalization of how I feel the fighting in this film was boring and not fun to watch. Maybe it's just cause it was so repetitive and uninteresting - endless punching after punching and flying through the air. It wasn't pleasant or entertaining to watch, in my opinion.

it's called HEAT visions, hence when u light a flame, you dont have to actually touch it to be burned. The beam itself is light, the heat is the reaction to that light with the atmosphere which cause heat. we don't touch the sun, but feel it's rays. The skin around superman's eyelids tolerate that heat vision for an immense amount of time.

Heat from a laser gun vs the beam itself from the laser gun. Not the same thing.

Just got back from the film at nearly midnight and I have to say it was a good movie. However, I can see why it got mixed reviews, most notably because Superman, as a character, was flat. There wasn't enough depth to make an emotional investment in the character, although I did enjoy him for what he was. The antagonist was outshone by the protagonist, his father, and nearly Lois. This film definitely had holes but even so it was a 7 or so, not terrible by any means. Zod was brilliant, the graphics were fantastic, the battles especially those involving Zaora were phenomenal.

I personally loved the fact that he terminated Zod when pushed to the brink of watching 3 specific people die. It wasn't the faceless masses of the Metropolis battle that could be drowned out during battle, collateral damage. He had to watch the fear and despair on the faces of these people and that's what made him decide.

That and Zod showing him that his will was unwavering and that he would never deviate from his path, which forced Kal to do the same. It's actually even more credit to Zod.

I have high hopes for the sequel, I'm sure they'll flesh him out, this was just laying the groundwork. He spent this entire film trying to live up to someone's ideal and only at the end, made his own path. The following films should build on that.

I see where you are coming from. I'm just glad you have the insight to call it your opinion. Always bugs when people people state that sort of thing as some kinda fact based on observation.

fight/action scene are tricky, they hinge on stakes, not that mos doesn't have stakes though. It's a tricky thing to nail imo.

That film was so much better than any other live-action portrayal of Superman. It was amazing.

Well. I like to share an experience. U were crossing the road... suddenly u saw a car running toward u from nowhere... ur legs were just stone... couldn't move a bit. Then u saw the car rammed right into u... have u ever experienced that? Ur body is just out of your control...

Just like u suddenly see thing falling toward u. Instead of running, u squat down n close ur eyes...

I wish I could tell every person who complains about there being TOO MUCH action to rewatch Superman Returns.

Can you see why it's rotten?:csad:

Nah, rotten is a bit too harsh but it was closer to Average than it was to Epic, Marv. Thing is, even so it was the best Superman film I've ever seen and I've seen them all.
